It turns my stomach. Not the name itself but the power they give it. I have heard too many experiences on here where people were told by family members or former friends that they have left Jehovah. They will never accuse someone of leaving God or Jesus. That just infuriates me because it is code for the watchtower society and they don't even realize they are doing it. The name Jehovah is nothing more than a typo. They will never give it up though because the connotation is so much more than just God.

How do you react when you happen upon the name jehovah
by jean-luc picard inwhenever i here that name, maybe in conversation with someone who doesnt know my past, i feel anger welling up instantly inside me.. if there were a jw in sight, i think i could give him a jolly good shaking.. just hearing that name does things to me.. jesus = love.
jehovah = hate, selfishness, divisiveness, and domineering manipulation.. so much for jdubs "honoring " his name.
he's sure got a bad reputation based on how they live their lives..

This thread is for people that do not really understand the control mechanisms of the Watchtower Society
by Iamallcool inplease feel free to explain the control mechanisms of the watchtower society.
thank you!.

"This is *the* issue, and we can't explore it enough."
I think that is key Tal. You can explain how JW's are wrong and you will get no where. Start explaining to someone how they are being controlled, especially with no scriptural backing, and they get angry. First at the one telling them that and eventually with the control itself.

Asher Allen - MN Vikings
by elder-schmelder inasher allen, a defensive back who has played three seasons for the vikings and who just turned 24 years old, has abruptly retired.. vikings coach leslie frazier told reporters today that allen informed the team last week that he decided to call it quits.
frazier described himself as very surprised by allens decision, and its impossible not to be surprised: nfl players just dont walk away from the game, by choice, at the age of 24.. .
allen retired because he recently became one of jehovahs witnesses.

What a stand-up guy! I'm going to check out that jw.org website right now.

I like this Youtube comment on it: "Cute... We will laugh one day too!" That sums up the smug attitude many of us had as witnesses, like a petulant 6 year old in timeout. That commenter probably has called dibs on Conan's house after armegeddon.

Cantleave, we are lucky enough to have several social workers and teachers in our pack so they are very helpful with the kids when they struggle. I have been actively trying to get kids with aspergers and autism spectrum disorder to join because it is a safe place for them.

I have seen Temple Grandin being interviewed. She is very inspiring. My children do not have Autism Sepctrum Disorder but I see alot of it as a leader in Cubscouts. I have seen several kids learn how to socialize better because of scouting and am confident they will be able to do anything they want when they grow up. Removing the stigma of it is a huge first step, even with some of their parents.

December 15 Watchtower --- A New Low in WT Anti-Intellectualism
by Room 215 ini wonder whether any of you took note of the article in the 12/15 study edition wt "the simplified watchtower .. why introduced" i couldn't believe they actually had the temerity to put such tripe into print and onto the record.. i was flat-out astonished with its put-down of vocabulary building and self-improvement:.
one egregious example: " the time spent looking up words and explaining expressions (ostensibly from the "smart people's" watchtower) is now spent gaining an understanding of the scriptures and how they fit into the lesson.".
one jw cited in the article actually blames her college education for causing her to fall into the bad habit of "speaking and thinking a way that was more complicated than necessary.

They are starting to sound like the cult version of the movie Idiocracy. In another 10 years the WT will just be pictures of people getting hit in the groin. (you need to watch the movie to get that reference)

Distrust and paranoia among faders
by cedars inhi guys.
i'm interested in knowing whether any other faders out there ever find themselves feeling a little paranoid about establishing contact with other faders or former jws, just in case the unthinkable happens and things turn sour.. personally, i'm now fairly comfortable with the idea that i will be disfellowshipped or disassociated within the next year or so.
i see it as inevitable, and an essential transition in order to do what i want to do with my life.

I think I am mostly over the paranoia but it will still be awhile before I wear my sparlock shirt out in public just in case.
