A "first-timers" ponderings...
by upside/down ini accidentally posted this improplerly so i'll try again.... i'm a "first-timer"- so please be gentle ( or at least use lube).
can we try and look at the bible's message without any preconcieved notions that we've been fed?
read it as if we've been lost on a desert island our whole life- what would we come away with?

Welcome to the Forum. I agree with you. I think that we tend to get too caught up in various doctrines and forget what his message was really about. 1. Love your neighbor as yourself. 2. Love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul. All the rest is well...speculation. In Romans 14 he said not to judge your brother regarding what he eats or drinks or regarding a day. IF you think a day is special and are convinced you want to worship God on that day, do it. But don't force it on your brother/sister. If you think pork is wrong, then don't eat it. If it bothers your brother that you are eating pork, be loving and don't eat it in front of him. I go to Non-denominational church. It suits me. I go when I feel like it. Not every Sunday. I do read the bible and when I left I spent quite sometime just reading it without pre-conceived notions. That is what helped me to know the the JW's were OH SO WRONG.

2004 Service Report - Analysis and trends for 2005
by truthseeker inby now, most of you will have seen the scanned images of the watchtower's service report for 2004. i do not have the feb 1st magazines, so i cannot speculate further on the reason for not issuing the report in the january 1st 2005 wt.
looking at the figures, there are some trends that should be considered very disturbing to the wt leadership.
although baptisms increased marginally by 3,571, the difference between the average number of publishers and the number of baptisms is eye-popping indeed.

I think they will stop printing this number crap soon. It makes them look bad. It was fine when they were prospering, but anyone with half a brain can do the math. Unfortunately those who are in will read whatever they say and will not do the math themselves. They will tell them the reason for the lack of growth is because the end is so near and Jehovah is allowing enough time for the last few to trickle in. Which is why we must preach ever harder so the end can come!!!!

What happens when you die??
by mysterio91 init's been over a year now since my dad died.
i feel sad about it a lot because i don't believe i will never see him again.
i realised today that being raised a dub has closed my eyes to different views on death.. what do some of you believe happens after death??

I believe that there is a resurrection. I think we will go to heaven. The bible talks about Abraham looking forward to his heavenly reward etc. Jesus said that you will be with him and I'm pretty sure he is in heaven. I'm not sure if we go when we die or when we die we go somewhere and wait for the resurrection. The parable about the one guy going to a fiery place and the good guy going to the pleasant place where the was a chasm between them so that one could not go to the other. Makes me want to think it is the latter.

Don't get depressed. Your life is about to change. Or rather your mindset. Although it is rather unsettling to realize you don't have "THE TRUTH" It is OK. The simple truth is that Jesus died for you and all you have to do is accept him as your savior and he forgives you and accepts you as one of his own. That's it! It is a free gift. Get busy and read your bible, you will realize that they were wrong about a lot of things. It is an uneasy feeling at first, thinking you have all the answers and then realizing you have nothing but questions. It is an exciting journey. I am glad I took it, at first I was very upset and unsettled and mad. You will survive!

I am SORRY for your loss. I lost my mom 18 years ago. God I miss her. I wish I could just give her a hug and say I love you, thank you for teaching me so much. I hope I am half the mother she was....I know I strive to be. How dare them! They forget what a memorial service is for! It's for those who lost their loved one, not an evangilizing moment. I'm glad you had your own service! My heart and prayers go out to you. \ My dad is still in and he is 81, when he dies I'm going to use that moment to witness to them!!!!!!

what is the deal with xmas?....
by flower inseriously i just dont understand the thought process behind what people do at xmas and the holiday season.
have you ever noticed how negative and stressed out people are?
i come into contact with a lot of people at work and as a job requirement i have to make small talk with them while taking care of their transactions and services.

I think people will complain about anything they can at any given time. I really didn't know how much I love Christmas until spending 16 years in the Organization!!!! You know I love it! I love the family time. I'm sorry I raised my kids as JW's and if I could change one thing in my life it would be that I wasted their life and mine screwed up in that lousy CULT! We are all happy that we can celebrate it now. I don't know when Jesus was born, but the point is that he was and I am going to celebrate that!!!! Thank GOD he was and did die for us. I am going celebrate it on Dec 25 because I don't know the exact date it was and I'm absolutely positive he will not hold it against me!!!!!! I'm going to exchange gifts with all those that I love and have a wonderful dinner.....now that is really EVIL. I will thank God that he has given me this wonderful family and chance to show them how much I love them, because unfortunately we tend to get busy and forget to make the time for them even though we should throughout the year!!!! I'm sorry I had to vent!

Ok I have a son who is now 20, but at any rate, there is no time in his life I would let him have a sleep over with a grown man 46 (my husbands age). I don't care if he is Michael Jackson or not. Now these people let their children be with him after he already paid another family off for suspected child molesting. I wouldn't let my kid near someone like this. I can't imagine my husband saying honey, I want to have a bunch of young kids over and were going to have a sleep over etc. etc. Sounds WRONG to me. As a parent I would say NO WAY! It just sounds plain weird to me. As a parent you have to look out for the best interests of your kids and here is where the parents of these children let celebrityism get in the way of good judgement!!!!
