what is the most insensitive thing an overseer or elder has ever said and done to you?

i have had many insensitive things said to me by some elders, but for some reason one self-righteous elder was always on my case.

he didn't like the fact that i missed meetings, didn't like that i never went out in field service, that i didn't answer at the weekly meetings and he didn't like that i carried my books and magazines in my hands and not a service/book bag.

Not so much a specific incident but I had a a person I considered a really good friend. He became an elder and completely changed. He went from encouraging to judgemental pretty much overnight.

A little backstory, he was an older man who, I believe, had been an elder previously and lost his privileges for what I can only assume was some stupid reason. His son was one of the most arrogant elders I knew. And I suspect he had something to do with getting his father removed.

Another time an elder and his wife inadvertently came to my door while preaching. At the time I was DFed and not going to meetings. I let him know I was DFed and then to my surprise he offered me a bible study. When I questioned it his wife assured me that he was an elder and it was OK for him to study with me. Still being mentally in I accepted. He came back as scheduled, but instead of having a study, without a word he handed me a meeting invitation and walked away.

Interestingly, later I applied for reinstatement and he was on the committee. I remember him saying "it's the truth, it's the truth, it's the truth". The way he said it I found myself wondering who he was trying to convince. Me or himself.

so yesterday while i was doing some work for a customer, i noticed the wt mags on the sofa.

and i asked the elderly man if he was a jehovah witness?.

he said that he and his wife and all his children were raised in the religion, but only he and his wife attend the meetings or zoom.

Keep in mind this is based on when I left in the 90s before the real crazy started. But I feel like if there was anyone for me to go back for, being JW wouldn't be all that bad.There's really nothing I want to do that I couldn't do as a JW. And knowing what I know now I wouldn't feel bad about keeping anything that might get me in trouble a secret.

Admittedly having to listen to the current tripe they are serving up might be more than I could take.

I think there are people that definitely deserve it, I just don't trust the people in charge to make sure that only the people that deserve are the ones that get it.

Where do JWs stand on sex toys?

i think we all know that if they are used alone it would be a no no, but what about in a marriage?

are there limits such as vibrators ok but torso with dildo not ok?.

Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower

i have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.

last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.

one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

Funny I was thinking about this today. Has it gotten worse since this was originally posted? There's really not much in it for a young person. I was a dedicated JW when I was in. Looking back it wasn't because I really knew what it was all about. I don't think my dad, the elder, ever had a bible study with me. I remember Saturdays after service consisted of him saying "I'm going to take a nap. When I wake up we'll study." That was my cue to head out for the afternoon.

I guess what was in it for me was being popular for pioneering. That meant I had a good excuse for living at home with my parents and not having a full time job.

Jehovah's Witnesses can now VOTE!

jehovah's witnesses were raped and tortured by the thousands in malawi because they obeyed the watchtower society's rules, and they broke caesar's law and refused to purchase a political card in a country that only had one polictical party.

now (since 1999), jehovah's witnesses are allowed to vote in political elections!

i would love to hear everyone's comments.

It was my understanding, even in the early to mid 80s, that you could vote. You just had to, as Disillusioned JW pointed out, write in Jehovah or something similar.

While it is sad that people had to die because of their inflexible rules in the past, better to soften those rules rather than double down on them.

Unfortunately they still seem to be doubling down on other forms of stupidity. i.e. if you got caught voting for real you would be metaphorically murdered by them in the form of DFing.

Rotator Cuff Surgery: Anybody Have Experience?

my husband is going in on tuesday to have surgery to repair a badly torn rotator cuff on his right shoulder.

he is right handed.. he's 51 and is great about exercising and staying in shape.

however, while doing push ups, his shoulder just snapped.

Oh one more piece of advice. I bought a couple packs of oversized T-shirts and tore the seam under the arm on the injured side enough so that I could get in and out of them without too much trouble.

No real advice except follow the doctor's orders. If you tear the tear you probably will make it worse and at best have to start over. And don't go crazy eating unhealthy stuff while he is also not able to be active. It's easy to think of it as a vacation but this vacation will last 3 months. You can do a lot of damage to your waistline in those three months. Especially when you are sitting around most of the day.

My mother had both of hers done separately. She was back to normal pretty quick both times. She was in her mid to late 60s at the time. Normal equals out riding her bike, playing tennis and a somewhat physical job (X-Ray Technician)

I had mine done in 2014 or 15. My rotator cuff had torn completely off. Needless to say it took a lot longer than three months to get back to normal. The physical therapist commented how my doctor underlined "massive" twice on the paper work.

I work on a computer so I was back to work as soon as the oxy wore off.

I'm pretty sure my PT started almost immediately. Which, at first, was just them moving my arm around. That was just to keep my shoulder from getting stuck in the socket. I'm sure the machine Magnum mentioned is the same thing, I just payed a human to do it. Then I graduated to doing stuff at home like carefully carrying a couple of dishes and lifting mouse weights. (those 2 pound tiny weights that look like a mouse could bench press them).

The most uncomfortable part was I had to sleep on my back at an angle for the first few days. I"m not sure why, maybe so I wouldn't roll around. Picture sleeping on a reclined reclining chair. You'd think it would be somewhat comfortable but it wasn't!

Here's a picture of the doctor putting a screw in my shoulder. (I don't find it too gross but if you are extra squeamish you might want to pass)

Harry, Meghan the Royal Apostates

i just watched the oprah interview.

i know that many view them with little interest as just entitled wastes of space and i get that.. however, the description of how they were "trapped" and silenced and forced into perpetuating the system with little or no personal freedom rang bells for me.

they are effectively shunned, estranged and disparaged by their family and cut off from support.

Except they knew that 100% going in. Probably, like anything else, she minimized how difficult it would be. No doubt because she grew up watching "Coming to America"

At least some of the blame falls on Harry. He should have known better than anyone how it worked.

My take is boo hoo you went through a bad time welcome to life. Except the rest of us don't get to retreat to a multi-million dollar mansion and make money doing a media circuit. In the few seconds I watched, even Oprah seemed to be trying to act like she cared.
