Chromium OS is going to be a popular OS going forward. Windows 8 is terrible and costly. Linux, including Ubuntu, can be challenging for the casual user. This makes both of them less desirable. Although I haven't played with Chromium, I hear it’s simple, cheap and pre-configured to take advantage of the cloud. I like the idea but I’m not a big fan of Google using all my personal info. Unless the next version of Windows is a lot better I'll likely be moving to some version of Linux at least on my primary computer.

What is the GB Giving Back?
by kneehighmiah inin harmony with acts 6:1-7, what is the gb giving back to the r&f?
the post about the cos being retired and recent wt articles about caring for older ones made me think.
the gb is doing everything to cut costs while at the same time asking for more sacrifices.

Whats wrong with kids these days! When I was young I was out preaching about the glue that brings everlasting life.
So many amazing things to learn about in th world. I wonder if the JWs think of stuff lilke this when they talk about having a fullfilling life in the new system? I always had the feeling that it was more about going back 200 years and everone would be farming and stuff.

Wheat/weeds parable defeats "organization' teaching
by Zoos inin his illustration at mathew 13: 24-30, jesus made it clear that the wheat and weeds were to grow together until the harvest.
this parable runs contrary to the concept put forward by the wt about getting out of the world and running to their organization for salvation.. first of all, the parable says that the weeds will be gathered, bundled and burned first then the wheat will be gathered into the storehouse.. wt teaches that we need to gather up the wheat first.
not only are they doing it backward, they are teaching that true christians must isolate themselves inside a special wheat organization, separate from the weeds.

My random thoughts after reading your post and those verses in Matthew
The parable says that the weeds will be gathered, bundled and burned first
...
they are teaching that true Christians must isolate themselves....
Seems clear which group they are in then doesn't it?
Then again, a few verses down Jesus said:
47 “Also, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea. It gathered all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, they pulled it to the shore. Then they sat down, gathered the good fish into containers, and threw the bad ones away.
This time around the good product was separated out first or at least at the same time.
In both cases it was the Angels doing the work not some earthly organization.
In my opinion neither of those parables seem to indicate that the the bad fish and weeds would be the vast majority
Finally Jesus asks:
51 “Have you understood all of this?”
“Yes,” they answered.
We are still arguing over this today so I have a feeling that the diciples may have been a little quick to answer in the afirmative.

Arguments to prove Noah's Ark story is just a myth
by will-be-apostate ini've been thinking for a while about the topic mentioned in the title and came to the conclusion that the flood story from the bible provides a very good starting point for proving the bible wrong.. in the following paragraphs i'll be only presenting ideas and potentially logic errors, and possible answer.
i didn't do any serious research yet, for in order to answer various questions a good base in specific branch of science is required.. according to the bible (the internet) the volume of the ark was 137.16 m * 22.86 m * 13.716 m = 43006 cubic meters (roughly).
if we was to subtract the volume of the interior structure (elements like walls, stairs, etc.

What about the population of humans around the time of the flood?
I don't know how accurate the estimates are but the site I found suggests there would have been between 15 and 20 million people on earth at that time.

A Parker Drive woman called police at 10:19 a.m. Sept. 22 that Jehovah's Witnesses would not honor her "no soliciting" sign. They told her that they are not soliciting. Police told the suspects that they were soliciting and need to comply with the sign.
Lots of funny replies there too.

Once Again: It's Okay for JWs to Rip-Off Non-JWs
by Iown Mylife intoday i heard from the owner of a small restaurant, the story of how a brother in a local congregation ripped him off for thousands.
the restaurant owner is not a jw but totally familiar with the cult, as his mother is a long-time baptized sister.
she asked him to hire this wonderful brother from her congregation to do construction work he needed at his house.

I saw what happened to those who hired 'brothers' and then got taken, only to be told they could not sue.
I used to work for a brother that said to get them disfellowshipped then sue them.
I was never quite sure if he was serious or not. Probably serious enough so that people wouldn't risk it.
He was pretty careful about the witnesses he hired anyway.

They kind of remind me of schoolmaster Squeers from Nicholas Nickleby.
I saw the 2002 movie just in case he happens to be nice in one of the other versions.

Has anyone compared hotel prices from the WT with those on the web?
by mynameislame injust wondering if anyone here has compared the prices of the wt approved hotels with the same hotel on hotwire, hotels dot com or some other such site?.
i know my dad used to call the hotel and use his mastercard perks to get a better rate than the wt was offering.
this was well before the internet age.

Tech49,
So true. I was going to mention the fun by the pool, but I figured I'd leave it for someone else. You didn't disappoint!
Such good memories, I even have a group in mind for the young underdressed ladies at Fridays.
I remember going out to eat after the assembly once with a new group and the waitress was just nasty. Probably because we were being such a pain in the A**. A couple of us complained and asked for a new waitress which we got. When the JW mom of the group found out she insisted on getting the original waitress back because, I assume, it would have been a bad witness to expect good service. Wish I pulled the headship card just to stick it to her.
That should have taught me to join a strange group just for the cute sisters, although I’m pretty sure it didn’t
