Reading a lot of these makes me think I was probably a judgmental prick when I was a JW. So I guess I can't complain too loudly...

What is the most insensitive thing an Overseer or Elder has ever said and done to you?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inwhat is the most insensitive thing an overseer or elder has ever said and done to you?
i have had many insensitive things said to me by some elders, but for some reason one self-righteous elder was always on my case.
he didn't like the fact that i missed meetings, didn't like that i never went out in field service, that i didn't answer at the weekly meetings and he didn't like that i carried my books and magazines in my hands and not a service/book bag.

The unrighteousness of the Jehovah's Witnesses
by Rocketman123 ina point to consider is that the bible states that if a prophet says things that god as not given them to say, they are to shun that individual or persons.. deuteronomy 18:22 ...... if a prophet speaks in the name of the lord, and the thing does not come about and does not come true, the lord has not spoken that word.
the prophet has spoken it presumptuously.
do not be afraid of him.. another scripture to note or consider would be 1 john 4:1 ......... dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from god, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.. so to observe if someone is saying things wrongly or what they have not been instructed to say in the preaching work, one has to play close attention to the instructions handed out by jesus christ himself.. one of the admonishments handed out to his followers is that they should not set a time upon god's own sacred time and that not even he knows of the time.. yet the wts and its top leading men have set numerous times on their own accord, taught and preached them, which were acts of disobedient apostasy.

They may claim that they are not prophets but if it walks like a duck....
They do have a pretty good gig. We're not prophets, just god's mouthpiece. You are required to treat us as if we're infallible. However we can and will be wrong* but we will never admit to a specific mistake If we ever allude to a mistake in the past it will be you that takes the blame.
*In reality the leaders have never been right about anything

Not so much a specific incident but I had a a person I considered a really good friend. He became an elder and completely changed. He went from encouraging to judgemental pretty much overnight.
A little backstory, he was an older man who, I believe, had been an elder previously and lost his privileges for what I can only assume was some stupid reason. His son was one of the most arrogant elders I knew. And I suspect he had something to do with getting his father removed.
Another time an elder and his wife inadvertently came to my door while preaching. At the time I was DFed and not going to meetings. I let him know I was DFed and then to my surprise he offered me a bible study. When I questioned it his wife assured me that he was an elder and it was OK for him to study with me. Still being mentally in I accepted. He came back as scheduled, but instead of having a study, without a word he handed me a meeting invitation and walked away.
Interestingly, later I applied for reinstatement and he was on the committee. I remember him saying "it's the truth, it's the truth, it's the truth". The way he said it I found myself wondering who he was trying to convince. Me or himself.

Would you leave the Watchtower if you woke up at age 80 plus, or just stay in for the rest of your life.
by pistolpete inso yesterday while i was doing some work for a customer, i noticed the wt mags on the sofa.
and i asked the elderly man if he was a jehovah witness?.
he said that he and his wife and all his children were raised in the religion, but only he and his wife attend the meetings or zoom.

Keep in mind this is based on when I left in the 90s before the real crazy started. But I feel like if there was anyone for me to go back for, being JW wouldn't be all that bad. There's really nothing I want to do that I couldn't do as a JW. And knowing what I know now I wouldn't feel bad about keeping anything that might get me in trouble a secret.
Admittedly having to listen to the current tripe they are serving up might be more than I could take.

I think there are people that definitely deserve it, I just don't trust the people in charge to make sure that only the people that deserve are the ones that get it.

As long as you don't walk around with it in the pocket of your tight pants you should be OK.

Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower
by Jeremy C ini have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.
last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.
one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

Funny I was thinking about this today. Has it gotten worse since this was originally posted? There's really not much in it for a young person. I was a dedicated JW when I was in. Looking back it wasn't because I really knew what it was all about. I don't think my dad, the elder, ever had a bible study with me. I remember Saturdays after service consisted of him saying "I'm going to take a nap. When I wake up we'll study." That was my cue to head out for the afternoon.
I guess what was in it for me was being popular for pioneering. That meant I had a good excuse for living at home with my parents and not having a full time job.

Jehovah's Witnesses can now VOTE!
by UnDisfellowshipped injehovah's witnesses were raped and tortured by the thousands in malawi because they obeyed the watchtower society's rules, and they broke caesar's law and refused to purchase a political card in a country that only had one polictical party.
now (since 1999), jehovah's witnesses are allowed to vote in political elections!
i would love to hear everyone's comments.

This post is old enough to vote!
It was my understanding, even in the early to mid 80s, that you could vote. You just had to, as Disillusioned JW pointed out, write in Jehovah or something similar.
While it is sad that people had to die because of their inflexible rules in the past, better to soften those rules rather than double down on them.
Unfortunately they still seem to be doubling down on other forms of stupidity. i.e. if you got caught voting for real you would be metaphorically murdered by them in the form of DFing.

Oh one more piece of advice. I bought a couple packs of oversized T-shirts and tore the seam under the arm on the injured side enough so that I could get in and out of them without too much trouble.
