a short while back a circuit overseer told the congregation his personal experience.

i was not concentrating at the beginning but somehow he and his wife were at an assembly with no money.

they had scraped together the cash to rent an old caravan for the weekend and now they were out of food.

Time and unforseen circumstances befall every one. Some of these circumstances appear god sent. Others appear as if God has abandoned you.

Just remember that you were unlucky enough to be born. Count your curses. Nothing fails like prayer.

Key word is "opportunities". It doesn't matter that most don't actually take advantage of those opportunities. They still are small injections of endorphins on a regular basis that make them feel myseriously potent. It also boosts their immune systems up a couple notches.

The lesson is you are better off operating as a free agent. Of course you may suffer from a sense of alienation at first. But, if you want to be part of some human organization pick one that is accomplishing something you believe in. At least then a lower ranking on the hierarchy is worth the associated risks to your well-being.

Look at the biological roots for the answer. Humans are a species where the male is larger and stronger than the females. Females select for strength and physique size. The top male has first choice of females. Primitive male dominated societies are the model for religious groups. Men try to discount it but deep down inside the male beast is a desire to attract females.

Helping people? That's part of the job. Especially helping the attractive sisters. "Helping" has strong overtones of superiority. The superior people help the inferior. Powerful males help weak males only when it comes to initiation into the male fraternity. "Come here son. I'm going to show you how to be a "spiritual" MAN like ME" The joy of being appointed to an "ELDER" is probably enhanced erections knowing you have a licence to mount.

Monogamy & its associated rules sublimate the raw search for females. But its still there if you are a careful observer.

One way to manage this is to have men compete with women for positions of power.

It's too easy to forget that we are animals.

If you are an elder you are just facilitating an archaic practice. You aren't helping anyone if you are a male in a position that requires females to be "submissive". What is submission but allowing someone to mount you.

Get off the platform. No self-respecting person would be part of that game.

Going to the hall is like watching an episode of Madmen.

I just read one correction. Someone wrote that the Governing Body has the "final" word when it comes to doctrine.

Somebody objected to the word "final" because it implied some sort of open discussion of doctrinal questions. The individual said the word final should be removed because there is no one else involved in their decision.

That was a recent revision.

Surprised by confessions of my brother

i was talking to my brother the other day... and he spilled the beans on some jw friends we had back in the day.

these were hard-core, religious jw teenagers, the kind that were chaperoned when they went on dates with good-standing sisters, the kind that, while they would not snitch on you, they would 'lovingly' offer counsel and all that.. .
