@ Dino,
Hi , well when we left he and his wife were stil in circuit doing allright! As you know his wife is from the DR and
they inhereted a house which they were modernizing. Pete is a great person, I loved him!!
i have been a missionary in the dominican republic for almost 10 years and i was wondering if there were any ex-missionaries on this forum.. i am back in my country now for 3 years and totally inactive.. what i noticed in those missionary-years was the lack of spiritual interest among the missionaries.. discussions were about rooms, cars and greater responsibilities, the bad territory.
and the local c.o.s and d.os.. was this only in the dr or are there other experiences??.
ere other experiences?

Kaiser Stuhl:
Where did you serve??
I have a lot more stories about missionaries, I have been a "important" elder in that country, I even
participated on Judicial committee of CO's and other missionaries. Also served as the chairman
of many appeal-committees. On some of these I now feel ashamed.

@ Kaiser stuhl.
Thanks for your understanding. That was really the problem in the DR, there was no understanding of the needs of the
missionaries. Oh yes we had nice missionary-homes but the ambience in the home was rotten many times. Fights at the morning worships, my wife even got attacked by a missionary (yes they were send away, in fact now they live on Columbia heights).
And serving in terrotories were we went every three weeks through, I told them...I could have done that at home!!
And always additional works, guests who had to be treated as kings, especially when they were from Brooklyn.
Than my wife had an accident on her motorcicle, and got stressed because of the situation in the home. We were send to Brooklyn and Patterson for treatment.
The end of the story was that we had to go back to our home-country...guess who had tp pay the tickets??
Yes, me. Well I refused to do so, so finaly they told me they would borrow the money. Yeah right I never paid back.
Back "home", I mean what is home after 9 years, nobody was interested in if my wife could get further treatment, if we could get a house, job and so on.
We felt all alone, and made me quit.
Is anyone of you here??
In the eighties on one of the european branches.
9 years missionary-service.
1999 8 months Brooklyn and Patterson.
Working in the laundry, grrrr punishment for my ill wife after accident in miss-service.
"DO NOT TELL ANYONE WE WASH THE GB-MEMBERS' CLOTHES SEPERATLY!!!!"
Does anyone know why this is done anyway????
i recall that it's been mentioned in passing here on a few threads that there are locks on the bethel rooms.
this to me is significant, since when i was there in the sixties, there were none, and this wasa source of considerable pride in some circles.. can someone confirm, please?.
during my day, they caught one bethel thief, a guy whose dad was a prominent circuit overseer who served in nyc at the time.
We had to pay money to the police in the Dominican republic at de DC and that was ok.
is anyone familiar with the gilead instructors:.
liverance, bowen, noumair, and karl adams.
I was in the same congregaction with carl Adams for a while in Patterson.
Know Noumair from the swimming-pool...nice guy.
according to a jw contact i have who just visited an asia pacific country, jw missionaries have been permitted to fly free aboard un flights.
can anyone else check into/confirm this... i am currently trying with my sources to get more information on this.. could be there were some financial benefits to un association after all!.

I have been a missionary for almost 10 years, never heard of this, and I personally do not believe it.
