Question about visiting bethel ... akward moment at the end
by nevaagain insince there a couple of ex-bethelites here, and a lot of people from the greater ny area who have probably visited the bethel in brooklyn and patterson many times, maybe they can shed some light into this curious question we (my wife and me) have for awhile.. so a couple of years ago, we happaned to be in the states and also went to visit the bethels in brooklyn and patterson.
we had the full package, what i mean is, not only we took the tour, but we also had someone to invite us for lunch.
while we wanted to enjoy our stay there, there was always a weird feeling being there.

I am afraid I don't remember Rutherford giving a tour in Brooklyn. Wasn't that the point of TS...tipping the Tour-guide? -

They expected a nice tip, believe me. And why not? We lived like beggars.
I remember the italian/american family visiting our missionary-home, with three kids, sent by the bloody branch on a saturday afternoon. Canceling all bible-studies. They were " checking where to serve the need was greater". My ass. First needed to loose fifty pounds a piece to walk whole day in the tropical Sun.
Anyway we made pizza and a bunch of pasta for the whole 1000 pounds group, they didn't even help with the dishes.

Midweek meeting
by loneranger inalmost two months into the change in format of the mid week meeting from the school and service meeting format to the christian life and ministry (clam) format.
in my congregation, seems attendance is down 10-15% over the normally low attendance for the mid week meeting before the change.
some indicate that the meeting under the clam format is very "intense"...you really need to study and research to be able to participate or get anything out of the meetings.

Maybe a lack of vitamin B?
As I like a very regular glass of wine, I was adviced taking extra B. It surely helps a lot.

How about this:
A Branch Office for Madagascar
When the preaching of the good news in Madagascar got under way on a regular basis in 1955, the work was supervised by the Mauritius branch. From 1959 through 1962, supervision came from the France branch. But starting in 1963, Madagascar had its own branch office. Raimo Kuokkanen was appointed to be the branch servant. Initially, he was able to care for most of the routine work himself.
At first the office was simply a rented house that also served as a missionary home. That house was not ideal, however. After the missionaries moved in, some local people asked if they were not afraid to live in a house that was haunted. Sure enough, strange things did take place in that house. As an example, when a missionary couple saw the handle of their door turning, they opened the door to see who was there, but apparently, there was no one in the hallway. The missionaries learned that a spirit medium had lived in that room. They made a careful search to see if anything had been left behind that the spirits were using as a contact. Firmly nailed to the threshold of their room was a coin. With considerable effort the brother removed it. Then the strange occurrences stopped.
When questioned about the situation, the owner of the house acknowledged: “Yes, it is a haunted house, but I thought because you are missionaries and God’s people, you would have nothing to fear.” -

A little wine for the stomaches sake.
by olongapo joe inone of my pop's favorite bible quotes.
as a youngster as soon as i could open the refrigerator, the old man would say "bryan get me a beer", and i was rewarded a drink or two from the can, 50 years later, i am an alcoholic, good news is i realize i am an alcoholic and am working on it.
actually hope to replace the booze with weed, as i can get violent with booze, but just chill with weed.

My life After Bethel Part 1
by new boy inthe day i left it was pouring rain........i really screwed up, i found out the night before, as i was packing things up, that i had way under estimated how much stuff i had.
i had two large suit cases (that i could barely shut the lids on) and a large army duffel bag.
i would guess about 200 pounds of shit......my van was in rhode island with the engine out of it.

Very good New Boy! I recognize the combination of lonelyness and relief when leaving that slavery.
