my take on this weekends Assembly
by TheLoveDoctor inadgrpid:|servtype: google_ad_section_start to the making of many books is worrisome as the bible says yet the last time we received a ypa book it was 2008 volume 1, 2 now this weekend we received volume 1 revised.
wow and so many are excited about us killing so many trees to repeat the same thing over and over again.
i need to vent a bit and could easily get on to many issues of wtbts and its goober body.

Is immorality escalating?
by jworld ini got the convention update from my mom, who attended this past weekend.
sounds like the society made the claim that immorality is escalating at a faster clip.

Euthanasia being sold to the public as "mercy killing".
I just love how the assumption that euthanasia is wrong is made a priori.
I think you are right, Anony Mouse. This is Fox News language. Nowhere else can you pick up such twisted nonsense. Hell, according to them, liberals are doing it wrong because Amsterdam is very liberal and is a cesspool of corruption and crime; it's anarchy!
See for yourself:

The use of citations in the watchtower (1950-2004)
by bohm ina while back i promised to print some numbers on the watchtowers use of bible quotations -- but being a lazy bastard (and having a thesis to write) i have promised and put it on hold a number of times (having a virus infect the computer with the database in did not help either).. anyway, these numbers try to address "selective quoting" of the bible in the watchtower.
the dataset is composed of all watchtowers from the cd printed between 1950 and 2004, but just now i realized there is a (slight) problem in that when citing books with only one chapter, usually only the verse number is shown (eg.
jude 3 rather than jude 1:3) which kind of messed with the script -- oops -- anyway i do not expect this to skew the results very much since the majority of verses in the bible are found in books with more than one chapter.

Holy shit, geek alert. I like you.
Also, lol @ Mark lagging behind all the other Gospels. Unsurprising, as Mark got a lot of shit wrong, which the writer of Matthew attempted to correct...

PZ Myers laughed his ass off. I have to say I too find it hilarious that creationists are finally getting their own bullshit forced back down their own throats.

Do you believe in an annointed class?
by irondork inregarless of their identity - in fact, if they are really "discreet" their identity should probably remain unknown - do you believe the bible speaks of a spirit annointed class of folks, a limited number of humans that have been called to heaven to serve with jesus?.

There isn't anything close that doesn't require language twisting and mental gymnastics to support any sort of earthly resurrection. Heavenly resurrection is implied throughout the NT.
Indeed. Due to the clashing with other cultures, especially the Greco-Roman culture and its myths, the idea of an afterlife truly started to work its way into Judaism. The time when Jesus was supposedly living was a time where the idea of dying and going to heaven was this new insight into the nature of the divine realm.

How important are God and Jesus to you?
by Nickolas ini ask this question because it goes to:.
- how disposed to objectively considering contrarian evidence you are, and.
- how much i might be messing with your life and happiness by helping you see things the way i do.. i read the posts of many people on this board who are apparently happy, even deliriously happy, with their theism.

They are mythical relics of days that should've long gone by. Neither Yahweh nor Jesus have ever existed, and yet they are being worshiped. I guess what they mean to me is that they are a symbol of the utter gullibility of mankind and the damage it can do.

One is Isaac and Abraham and while nothing bad occured it shown's what Isaac had to put up with even though he didnt do anything wrong.
Perhaps not, but it is either exceedingly cruel, or it shows that God is not all-knowing.

Trading the WT cult for a love relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is not poison for poison.
Sure it is. Instead of getting poisoned, you poison yourself. Jesus never existed, you know.
God is God to everyone.
That statement doesn't even remotely make any sense.
jehovah is the god of the jews...mull that one over and smoke it.
And that of the ancient Canaanites before them. Well, some of them. Yahweh was part of a whole pantheon, after all. The Jews only became monotheistic in the late 6th century BCE.

Why the hell would anyone still believe that crap? It's not like the gospels are more than mere myths, let alone Revelations!
