Why is Talking to a Witness so Hard?
by Perry inhere's my take for one of the reasons: jw's perceive anyone who asks the wrong questions as a hater of jehovah and a persecuter.
they think jesus had them in mind here: .
john 17: 14. i have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as i am not of the world.

I think you're wrong, Perry.
It's hard to talk to JWs because of conditioning.
Can't you remember when you were a hardcore dub? For example, would you have talked to an assembly picketer? I wouldn't, and didn't. When they approached me the instant decision was there in my mind, "They are Satan's servants, I have been taught not to talk to them, they are dangerous, they are possessed by the demons, bleh, bleh, bleh." Thinking didn't even enter the picture. It was just a conditioned response.
I talk to JWs every chance I get. And when I do I have no delusions of grandeur that I will liberate them in one conversation. I ask questions and hope the door of thinking cracks open just a little. Conditioning is very, very tough to crack.
One JW that has shunned me for over a decade, who was one of my best friends, has only recently been regularly associating with me again. It has taken over 10 years of infrequent conversations to even begin helping this person to challenge the beliefs installed in him by the WT. I almost completely gave up on them, but something kept telling me to hang in there and make contact with them a couple of times a year. It's great to have them back in my life.

Anyone here ever lived in - or visited extendedly - Thailand?
by AK - Jeff inhaving been a long time dub - from the age of 5 to the age of 48 - i did not ever plan on retiring in 'this system of things'.
by the time i figured it out, it was a bit late to develop a career plan, get an education, and get the retirement savings in order.. there is still some time - and we will do what we can to assure the best retirement we can.
i am currently 52. but one of the options i am considering is a move to an economically viable location.

3:10 to Yuma....review
by Gregor ini've been looking forward to seeing this movie since i first heard about it.
i am a big fan of good westerns.
i always liked the original from the 50's.

Gregor,
That's my biggest pet peeve with movies. When the movie shows you something so preposterous that it couldn't happen and you know it, and the film is supposed to be a realistic film of a real time and place, it ruins it for me.
Kind of like Apocalypto where the main character is shot through the liver with an arrow and keeps running like it was just a scratch. Dumb.

Did you lose your ability to spell the most common of words after 9/11?

but folks this many people die every 2 hours from starvation in africa, something humankind can completely overcome. yet we dont seem to give a stuff about that do we, becuase those bloated poor humans that we cant stand to look at dont appear human to us really, or to me anyways, death is the best out for them too given their dire situation.
Why don't you try that tact at the next funeral you attend.
