Who are these men? Would you follow them?
by James Mixon in1)he ran around and wandered for 3 years naked.. 2) he hid his underwear in a rock but then went back to retrieve it after a "long time".. apparently he didn't mind parting with his draws, but he couldn't be separated from the.
cattle yoke he had fastened to his shoulders until someone broke it off.. 3)he married a prostitute and named their daughter lo-ruhama, which means 'unloved.. 4) we have the guy that preached in in town and the entire city repented.
for any preacher this.

How Cultish are the JW's?
by xjwsrock infirst off, i certainly agree the jw's are a cult.
but i'm sensitive to black-and-white thinking now.. so, where do they rank on the scale?
think of a cultish religion scale from 0-10.. consider the likes of unitarian universalism vs baptist vs amish vs charles manson.. where do you think jw's fall on the scale?.

I agree with much of what you guys/gals are saying. I look at the thought-stopping and other blatant manipulation in the JW's. The willingness to let members kill themselves over their half-wit interpretation of 2000 year old scripture (blood). OrphanCrow I haven't thought of the org like that, but you're right. They really are a subtle version of the suicide cults. That's a sobering thought.
I guess I see the Amish and other heavily isolated crazies as being 9's on the scale. The Charles Mansons, Jonestowns of the world are the 10's. So JW's would be an 8 to me (same as OTWO). Control is high but immediate physical danger lower than the groups further up the chain.
Mormons like 7.5
Scientology 8.5

I'm with Cofty. After learning ttatt, the meetings aren't boring, you sit there is disbelief.
They literally meet multiple times a week to tell each other their wishes will come true.

You need to marry a ministerial Servant!
by John Aquila ina single sister in her 40s and her two single daughters were visiting my mom.
i would say her daughters are in their early 20s.
my mom got sleepy and we put her to bed but the three sisters stayed to finish their drinks..

Sabin - Personally I think they have absolutely no respect for the marriage arrangement at all.
I agree and even less respect for women. They are basically saying that the Servant Body should have their choice of a mate within the congregation. "Man's helper" -doncha know. They want the 1950's forever.

Paranoia after today's Watchtower
by Truthexplorer inboy oh boy did i feel paranoid at today's wt.
not only are we to watch our associations outside of the congregation, but also watch our associations 'within' the congregation.
this was emphasised by the wt study conductor.

Yes this WT study was atrocious.
- 1914 referred to as a biblical fact as the start of the last days.
- warning against bad association inside the congregation (they know about us lol)
- Solomon referenced as a person who suffered from bad associates among his 1000 wives and concubines - no mention of the fact that having 1000 wives and concubines is immoral and illegal today in any western society
- They had to bring up Noah at the end to throw a death threat in the mix (stick)
- Last sentence throws out the carrot of the New World
