Finally time to move on
by Bungi Bill ini have finally reached the point where i can forget that i was ever involved with such a $!%* cult as jehovahs witnesses.
(a situation that has taken over 20 years to achieve).. this discussion board certainly helped in this process, and i want to thank everybody for their support over the time that i have been a member both of this site and the old www.jehovahs-witness.com website (where i used the acronym reefton jack).
it is now, though, time to move on with my life, so i will say my farewells to everybody.. bill .

I have heard the excuse that if they let people know their financial numbers then they would open themselves up to attacks like frivolous lawsuits from opportunists.
Well so much for the plan to avoid lawsuits. Hidden Pedophilia will get you every time :)
Also wouldn't an organization that was confident of Almighty God's backing not worry about petty lawsuits from the "world"? Certainly the Creator of the universe can throw pesky lawyers off the scent... Certainly the maker of black holes and sunsets can make a few billion measly dollars appear...
Why the worry? Where's the faith you demand from your followers Governing Body?
Everyday you don't open your books to the public, you admit fear and deceit. You also admit that you do not believe that which you claim. God doesn't back you... And you know it.

Lett is aging terribly the last few years. Every time I see him he looks older. The stress of the WT fall from grace is killing him.
Here's some advice Lett.
Tell the truth. Let it go. God isn't backing you. Cut your losses. Follow the example of Ray Franz and do the right thing. You might get some sleep at night.

How Cultish are the JW's?
by xjwsrock infirst off, i certainly agree the jw's are a cult.
but i'm sensitive to black-and-white thinking now.. so, where do they rank on the scale?
think of a cultish religion scale from 0-10.. consider the likes of unitarian universalism vs baptist vs amish vs charles manson.. where do you think jw's fall on the scale?.

Good points on your list from the WT Datadog...
Who cares if it's slightly different from other cults!!
It's an intellectual discussion. While dealing with this religion understandably stirs up emotions, emotion can get the best of us if we're not careful. I think it's good to keep things in perspective and understand what we are actually dealing with here instead of flying off the handle and doing something to either hurt ourselves or someone else. (speaking hypothetically)
For instance, let's say someone is stuck in JW land like I am. Understanding that being stuck in Scientology or Amish country would be possibly a little worse and that there are "awake" members dealing with that reality as we speak, may be just the slight edge needed to keep us going another day with our burden. Saying "a cult is a cult is a cult" is not dealing with the issue with our eyes wide open to the full picture. It leans back to that 'either/or", black-and-white thinking that we are trying to rise above.
Understanding we are on a scale with other people, some better, some worse, can help us feel not so alone.

Who are these men? Would you follow them?
by James Mixon in1)he ran around and wandered for 3 years naked.. 2) he hid his underwear in a rock but then went back to retrieve it after a "long time".. apparently he didn't mind parting with his draws, but he couldn't be separated from the.
cattle yoke he had fastened to his shoulders until someone broke it off.. 3)he married a prostitute and named their daughter lo-ruhama, which means 'unloved.. 4) we have the guy that preached in in town and the entire city repented.
for any preacher this.

I agree with much of what you guys/gals are saying. I look at the thought-stopping and other blatant manipulation in the JW's. The willingness to let members kill themselves over their half-wit interpretation of 2000 year old scripture (blood). OrphanCrow I haven't thought of the org like that, but you're right. They really are a subtle version of the suicide cults. That's a sobering thought.
I guess I see the Amish and other heavily isolated crazies as being 9's on the scale. The Charles Mansons, Jonestowns of the world are the 10's. So JW's would be an 8 to me (same as OTWO). Control is high but immediate physical danger lower than the groups further up the chain.
Mormons like 7.5
Scientology 8.5

I'm with Cofty. After learning ttatt, the meetings aren't boring, you sit there is disbelief.
They literally meet multiple times a week to tell each other their wishes will come true.
