sir82 - Amen! Just like all the other cheats of Jehovah. The flood itself for instance. What the hell is up with the whole Tower of Babel thing? It is all such BS.....

Satan Wants to Be Like God and Have Mankind Worship Him.....Yeah Right....
by xjwsrock ini heard this tired line re-ran again at this year's convention.
satan supposedly wanted to be like god and be worshiped - you know, the whole pride thing.
they really made a big deal about how his "thoughts" led to his sin in the garden of eden and how we need to control our thoughts to avoid the same result.

notsure- I guess you could debate whether Satan could show himself without materializing a physical body. I personally think he would get even more attention in a some ghostly form hovering above ground. Lol....

Dunedain - I see your point about Satan coming out would prove God exists. He wouldn't have to name himself in a biblical way. Any spirit creature would get attention beyond belief. He could name himself Zues, and the crowds would line up. Me included. Lol..
Brokeback - Interesting point on the projection of the GB's God complex onto Satan. I think you are on to something there.
Sparrowdown - Ties in with what Brokeback is saying. Lot of similarity there.

My Take on the Convention
by xjwsrock in4300 in attendance - 17 baptized.
odd mix of congregations assigned, i'm sure to throw off any scent of a decline.. no distinction made whatsoever between loyalty to jehovah god and loyalty to the watchtower bible and tract society.
the convention is riddled with parts whipping up your love for the creator and jesus, with a quick reminder that the wbts are their gatekeepers.. parallels are implied constantly between israel and jehovah's witnesses.

ToesUp - I agree. If you have a problem with the org, it's always a problem with you not them. It shows how much they see themselves as God.
SIR2 - I agree the dynamic is different in a crowd. I myself clapped simply to fit in with the wife and such. I wonder how many others were doing the same.
Eye - I hope they tell the truth on the numbers and we start seeing a decline. I'm sure they will just spin it as a sign of the GT coming soon.
1972 - I remember not questioning this stuff. Scary how they have the members thinking the bible was written about the organization.

(Let's just say the BITE model from Hassan was available in spades at this convention.)
Anyway, I got to thinking about this whole premise - Satan wants to be worshiped. Well it doesn't make a lick of sense.
If Satan is so interested in having the limelight and taking the glory away from God and anybody else, then why is he hiding himself?
WHY IS HE HIDING????!!!!
Do you know how much fame and glory a leader of the spirit world could have in today's society of 24 hour news? He could have billions of people tuned in to see him, listen to him, and watch whatever he does.
Could you imagine how many people would tune in for an exclusive interview with Satan? LOL...
Another teaching that doesn't stand under 5 minutes of critical thought.....

These selfish bastards don't want the members to have anything of value and no identity other than being a obsessed follower of theirs.
Short List of Unapproved Things:
Successful Career, Nice House, Expensive Vehicles, Expensive Vacations, Luxury Brand Handbags, Luxury Brand Clothing, Retirement Plan, Pets, Membership in any Clubs or Organizations, Involvement in any Charity, Any College Degree more than 2 years, Any Professional Designation, Any pursuit that would lead to popularity or fame even if just locally....
Of course, if you break their rules and pursue any or all of these things, they will gladly accept a donation from you. If you are somehow still in good standing, or possibly even if you're not, they will accept any of your professional services as a voluntary contribution to their cause.
Why?....... Well, greed of course.... with a sprinkle of hypocrisy.

Contempt of court, case in San Diego county really disgusts me!
by Crazyguy inthis case has to be talked about by ever awake jw every apostate everyone.
this case because they refuse to hand over documents the court already knows they have because they handed them over before but heavily redacted, is the icing on the cake!

It shows they have zero faith in their trademarked God Jehovah™.
If they did, they would simply do the right thing and wait to be protected and/or rewarded.

God does not desire any to be destroyed?
by stuckinarut2 inso if the idea is promoted that god doesn't want anyone to be destroyed, why does he make it so confusing for people to learn about him?.
why are there thousands of differing religions?.
why has "his only true organisation" even taught so many varying doctrines?.

I still say if God wants us to listen to somebody he should write it in the sky. Write it in some miraculous way that emits light and doesn't move away day or night, but is constant 24 hrs a day. Leave it for a month. It would be covered on every news outlet in the world. Billions would see it. It would never be forgotten.

Odd mix of congregations assigned, I'm sure to throw off any scent of a decline.
No distinction made whatsoever between loyalty to Jehovah God and loyalty to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Zero.
The convention is riddled with parts whipping up your love for the Creator and Jesus, with a quick reminder that the WBTS are their gatekeepers.
Parallels are implied constantly between Israel and Jehovah's Witnesses. Many scriptures were read in the Hebrew Scriptures. All scriptures speaking of hope or deliverance instantly applied to Jehovah's Witnesses and Armageddon regardless of actual context.
Implied, if not direct, threats flew around liberally for disloyalty. References were made to many people being killed for being disloyal. The Golden Calf episode thoroughly discussed. Korah and the ground opening up, Aaron's sons being killed, etc.
"Independent Thinking" was mentioned more than once and shamelessly condemned. JW's are not to have any opinion about the teachings from the "slave" unless they are positive. If we have a negative thought about anything coming from the "slave" we are to immediately dismiss it and "Wait on Jehovah" with a humble attitude.
There were a lot of stoic faces in the audience during the heavier videos. It was hard to read people but I didn't see a lot of emotion. I was surprised however by the kool-aid drinker comments from many after the assembly. They actually eat this stuff up. It blows my mind now that I'm awake to it all. It seems so blatantly manipulative, but it apparently plays on a JW's desire to be better than everyone else and judgmental. I heard one brother talk about (with raised eyebrows no less) how many in his hall had a lot to work on after this convention (how nice of him to point that out). One elder speculated that maybe future shepherding calls would also include a message of judgement..
......
My overall take- It's one thing to watch the videos at home on a personal device and be shocked by them, but to see the organization proudly parade this craziness in front of thousands of people on multiple jumbo-tron screens, is something else altogether. It was bizarre and surreal.
I walked in knowing they were a culty cocktail of delusion and deceit. I walked out thinking, though, they are also disturbingly narcissistic and paranoid. More so than I knew.

My issue with the kingdom melodies:
They are indoctrination set to music.
