Just sent letter to my parents that I no longer want to be a JW

by muslima innothing in side.. i will give you all the short storyl i was married to an elder - had 3 beautiful chilren -- after 17 years of mariiage -- i couldn't take it all any more.
i bailed when my youngest was 11, 13 and 16.. it was my intention to be no religion at all.
i abhor organized religion.

Why not,ask him to look at the JW literature on the issue, such as the awake that said no religion should make you choose it or your family.
Is it Wrong to Change Your Religion?” in the July 2009 Awake p29: “No one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family.”
Just love your children, love them unconditionally and let them make their choices. That is all you can do. Send them letters cards, presents. Do everything you can, this is all you can do ...

Evidence
by ekruks ini am wondering, if brave persons are bringing forth details of painful abuse cases years later, when they have grown up to be adults.... what evidence do the courts convict on?
conti was the only victim in the case?
i doubt there were eye-witnesses, and it's too late to get dna evidence.

Sometimes it is the description of the abusers anatomy, or collaborative testimonies or even circumstantial evidence. The 'celebrity' saville case involves children attending tv studios or events or being in hospital when he and his driver abused them. Evidence may constitute anything from tv film footage of them being present, photos or medical motes of their time in hospital etc.
With child abuse, like rape, there is not always physical evidence, but the nature of the crime demands scrutiny and investigation. Usually cases are based on 2 versions of an event and then a hunt to weaken the others version, be it proving they have lied about alibi's or where they were, when and why etc.
Evidence becomes less about DNA and physical evidence and more about circumstance and versions of the event, e.g. Michael Jackson case etc.
Many children are abused by someone they know who takes advantage of the relationship/authority. There is very likely to be no evidence in most cases.

Can anyone help me trouble-shoot YouTube?
by Island Man intoday i notice that youtube videos aren't playing most of the time.
the youtube page loads fine but the videos mostly don't start at all when i play them, remaining in a perpetual initializing phase that ends with a message saying an error occurred and the video cannot be played at this time or something like that.
in some cases the video does start after a very long delay - exceeding 2 minutes - of the circular, strobing, initializing thingy.

Sounds like a slow connection, youtube shows a TIMEOUT error quite quidkly if the connection is crappy, but firsr I would try a handful of things....
1. Install the latest ADOBE FLASH player,
2. Try Using Google CHROME or Apple's SAFARI instead of internet explorer.
3. Install apple quicktime, microsoft silverlight (that way you have all the major downloads you need for sure.. latest adobe flashplayer too remember!)
4. Internet background speed loss: despite ALL the above, I still say it sounds like a slow internet speed. If you have a good internet speed and provider, you may just have a heap of viruses, trojans etc running in the background, sending info all the time you are online and using your internet connection up so much you can't play videos. It happens and it is common. Two options really...
A. Go to your windows control panel and open the internet security icon (icon looks like a castle wall), first do an update then do a FULL scan of your computer.
B. Also download the free version of MALWARE BYTES and again, update it and then do a FULL conputer scan.
These last 2 suggestions are a good thing to do regularly anyway, maybe once a month. If any detect a virus/trojan or anything, just delete it. It is all easy enough and self explanatory. These 2 programs search every file on your pc for know virus files, when it finds one it shows you, usually in red lettering, clickon it and press 'delete' or the equivelant, maybe it says 'remove' for example. There may be an option to 'remove/delete all' or something to that effect, this is the button you want as somethimes there can be lots of files that need removing.

by NAVYTOWN inis it really true that jw children get gifts 'all through the year', not just for christmas and birthdays like non- jw kids?
as stingy as most jws are, i find that very hard to believe.
plus the childhood magic of christmas and birthdays is totally absent in jw households.

I remember we had £10 to spend in a local city on a day out. My brother bought jeans, I bought a board game from a stall. That was our present day in high school. I remember lying to school mates and saying we got £100 to spend instead of Christmas, thinking I had an impressive lie. They laughed and said that £100 wasn't very much. I remember feeling really bad for lying, but worse that in reality we only had £10. I felt it was ungreatful to feel gutted about it. Screwy hey!
I remember persuading my folks to order a games console (SNES) one January sale, it came, it sat by the door, I could touch the box! I had saved and bought a controller as it didnt come with one...but it went back.... "Can't afford it." The controller sat in my draw for a few years.
When I was 15 I bought my own playstation one by getting it from a neighbours catalogue (jw) mowing lawns and cleaning an old sisters garden/house. Took me 2 years to pay it off, £3.50 a week.
I remember when I was 14, saving my own money from working on a paper round £30 a month, i saved for MONTHS and had £150 and I bought an electric guitar, a black Fender and a little amp. I was told it was a "waste of money" when I bought it.
My parents have now left the JW's and have also divorced, they celebrate christmas with their new families, who both have younger kids. I know it upsets some of my siblings, but that's life. Time wont go backwards for anyone....
Some JW kids get gifts, spoilt, nice things, a 'first car' etc etc. But most JW's have made them self poor by lifestyle choice and there was a lot of poor people in the congs we were in, so most JW kids have nowhere near what other kids get. Also keep in mind, most kids toys, fads are 'unchristian'.

Meanwhile in the normal world, older people worked hard, had EDUCATIONS, got good jobs and a pension...... They help their kids in tough times
Back in JW land, the old folk are waiting for a promise and now find themselves in the sh*t.....

It still happened and there is more to criminal cases than JUST dna evidence.
Even if 60 yrs passed, if the victim felt able to only then come forward, they should and should have our support. The uk abuse scandal at the moment goes back decades to mature women who were abused as young teens long ago.

Can i ask the ex elders and current, in all honesty, is it hard to come here and have no authority, to be an equal? I understand there are positive elements to handing over or giving up authority, but still, do you find it hard to be debated, questioned and sometimes ignored, by non elders, women and 'apostates'.
being a human, i imagine it is hard at times.... Power corrupts, it is a sweet taste to the inner alpha male, hard to give up.
