Look around your congregations, anyone with long term depression and illness, halting their roll in the cong, there is a good chance they are battling with their belief...

Circuit Overseer wakes up, packs his bags and leaves!
by Anony Mous ini just heard this about a co i knew back in the day before he was even a co. he must be in his mid-late 40's now, my mother told me the story as she knows the family very well (the entire family has gone 'apostate' including several elders, circuit overseers and missionaries - this was an "example" family, always on the stage etc).. he wasn't 'feeling well' so he took time off from his co duties.
that week he packed his suitcase, told his wife he can't do it anymore and he's leaving, leaves her the car and the house and went to live in a small apartment, bought a small car and a week later got a decent job.. this was very recent so not everybody within the org has heard yet what happened..

Physics: What are your thoughts on life in the 4th,5th,and higher dimensions?
by EndofMysteries inif you do a little research there are many physics forums, discussions, and books about this.
it's a bit challenging to grasp but it's very interesting.
if there is life on this higher dimensions, they could see us yet we would be unable to see them.

You are mistaking dimensional physics with woo.

One day Assemblies and the removal of the RBC
by A.proclaimer inso i was at a jw gathering today, and i over heard a brother telling a sister about these new changes.
according to him, both one day circuit assemblies will be put together on the same weekend, one on saturday, the next on sunday.
that way the assembly halls could be used to fit in more circuits as they increase in numbers.

A medieval question for you, if you believe in god....
by snare&racket inmany ancient believers of god used cognition to 'think' their way from belief to atheism.
what initially seems a silly question to reason over, can actually destroy a whole theology.. here is a question made famous by 'saint' thomas aquinas, believers in a almighty god with unlimited ability, please have a think about this..... the omnipotence paradox:.
"could an omnipotent being create a stone so heavy that even he could not lift it?
-
snare&racket
You are missing the target again....
lets take god out of the equation been as it is so personal to some.... "Can an all powerful ANYTHING make a rock so heavy they cant lift it?"
It isn't a personal attack on anyone's god, the concept of 'all powerful' or omnipiotent is flawed.
As for Thomas Aquinas. He did not come up with this, he just openly discussed it. Avoid the conflict by talking about everything but the obvious if you wish, So far only one person has recognised the illogic belief in omnipotence.
it's not personal, relax....

Secret Heart..... Can you please list what was considered scientific fact 100 years ago, that no longer is.
This is where people are being deceived..... Bear in mind you used the words 'scientific' and 'fact' as you make the list!

Soon™... In use since 1879!!
by ILoveTTATT ini wondered how fast the wt publications used the word "soon"... as in expectation of some prophecy or fulfillment.... eight pages into the first watchtower... july 1879.... "our design has been to present to the body of christ, "the chaste virgin" church, which expects soon to go in to the marriage and become christ's bride, a selection of sacred songs especially adapted to her condition and expressive of her desires and hopes.".
the expectation?
1881. http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1800s.php.

Wow, this is a fantastic point.
i imagine it will be helpful to be able to ask a JW, when did WT start using the term 'soon'?
1879 is a suprising and eye opening answer, 135 years of saying 'soon'. Kind of puts the 'they waited 30 whole years outside of Jerusalem' into perspective!
Great thread, great research !

Why not go to a museum, or get a textbook, go hold, touch, see , read what we mean by 'evidence'. Yes scientists can look atthe evidence and make wrong assumptions about it. I agree. But when you see an exhibit of ancient prehistoric, long lost species... or dinosaurs from 60 million years ago, or humans from 150,000 years ago, their tools, jewelry, trinkets.... Neanderthal remains with burial ritual items.... Even farming equipment older than 6,000 years old puts nails into the coffin for the bible.
The world is full of such 'facts' even if you assume every scientific argument as wrong.

Avoid Going back to the JW's - Educate Yourself about Mind Control
by flipper ini've talked with some good friends on the board about this before and we seem to be in agreement : one reason ( among many ) that some disfellowshipped jw's go back and return to the wt organization is because they are full of uneeded guilt or uneeded fear because they haven't educated themselves about how the wt society uses mind control tactics to deceive them into thinking they have " nowhere else to go " .
i understand that some dfed ones may go back to the organization for family and friends- however- it's an exrecise in futility because once you learn the truth about the truth you cannot undo what you heard.
so some may just go back and live a fake jw life to appease family- but just think of how that can damage a person's emotional and mental health playing the fake jw game the rest of their lives !

When I say soon, i mesn 100+ years....
Remember JW's are a religion with a time limit, milleniumists. When nothing happens and nothing comes, it will be its own enemy.

The religious have largely scoffed at the big bang for decades, just as with evolution, now they embrace it as god's work, crow barring it into verses from the bible.
As for her qualifications..... So? She still had no evidence for her ideas, just faith in an old scroll. It isn't science, its belief. It contributes nothing to our world view to take her opinion on as fact. It simply makes explaining the universe more complex not less, it is also lazy to place god in the 'x' instead of looking for the true 'x'.
The safest and most honest approach to information, is to stand by the evidence and nothing more.
lastly, the hurdles get higher if you get her assumptions and embrace them. Assume a god... now which one? Which holy book? It is dishonest to start down this path to begin with, thete is NO evidence... and it simply leads to religious OPINION. This is as far from science as you can get.
Prof Krauss has explained a mechanism for the big bang without a god with evidence thrown in, it is still just a theory, but already we are steps beyond an assumption for god. When will the religious learn? It angers me, because they know in our lifetime it wil llikely be too soon to prove wrong, so they can make the assumption. In 400 years do you really think they will still be toiling with the mechanics of the big bang? Be honest....
Keep in mind we already have a big bang re-creation machine in two countries....
