it took an army of 128 computers running for 10 hours to process the data required in the 25 categories of molecules that are involved in this "simple cells'" life processes.
think about that for a moment - 128 computers running for 10 hours just to compute the data, not actually do it mind you; but just to model the known processes in one of the simplest known cells, which is many orders of magnitude simpler than a human cell.

With respect, complexity keeps the ignorant ignorant.
It takes seconds to read and believe "God created the heavens and the earth."
it takes literally years to learn advanced physics, chemistry and biology so as to understand how theories such as evolution works and the evidence for it. How far in to your studies are you?
It is like deciding to post about how unlikely it is that planes fly in the sky because of how improbable aeronautic theories seem to you, having never picked up an aeronautics textbook or attended a class on it.
Just to prove a point, you have been impressed and moved by a 'real cross-section X-ray' of a human cell. After 6 years in university, I was instantly able to say "No it isn't, that is clearly an artists cgi rendition of cellular organelles." I could easily identify the mitochondria, the sarcoplasmic reticulum, the ribosomes...
Education is not about ego or elitism, it is a safety net for ignorance, as easily as you can be caught out by an artists fake picture, assuming it was a real xray, you can be seduced by a fringe narrative that suits your biases and beliefs.
It is always your choice, what do YOU really want to know?

P.s. my reason for posting was because your OP was incredibly misleading, though I suspect unintentional. You started with a quote and reference to an experiment but then added a lot of personal conjecture. Only after seeing the 'Atlantic' article (not science) was I able to differentiate what you had read, what you had misunderstood and what you had added as conjecture as someone I assume not trained in science or statistics. I think it is important to be more transparent in the future, your conjecture is wildly mistaken/untrue and I am sure you would not want to intentionally mislead someone.

whatever couples did was pretty much kept quiet.
every once in a while a wife might complain to the elders or a friend that the husband is too demanding or even immoral because of the sex practices the husband wanted.

When I left the JW's to go to University, I attended a JW party before I left, I was considered a JW drop out and was there on the periphery.
During the party, the topic of sex and being privately reproved came up. To my shock, ignorance and naivety.... someone asked how many had had sex before marriage and I was one of a couple of people who had not, I was off out the JW's and there I was a mid 20's virgin, amongst all these pioneer/MS/good example kids who had all been messing around.
I felt so naive and stupid to have been a 'good JW' all those years, a whole youth and meanwhile all these elders kids had been doing as they wished. Literally all of them.
The irony is that these are all elders and pioneers etc now, preaching judgment and partaking in disfellowshipping and punishing people for the many petty things on the JW naughty list.

It is very simple....
Nobody has the right to NOT be offended.
It is not a LEFT or RIGHT political issue. It's relevant to all humans that have a differing point of view on any passionate/emotive topic.
If you feel offended by the feelings or speech or actions of someone with differing view to your own.... that is for you to deal with, not the other party.

The irony......you literally post daily in a ex-religious support group forum about your dismay at what people do and say that triggers you. On a daily basis you voice clearly your intolerance for actions and perspectives that differ from your political views. You did it in this very post! Honestly, your lack of personal insight in posting this is astounding.
Maybe try not to get so easily offended by what others do or don't do....... just a suggestion!

JW Net and Politics
by snare&racket inthis site was and remains instrumental in assisting people that want to leave the jw's.. there has been political discussion here for some time now, a good couple of years and it makes me feel a little uneasy.
i just opened up the site for the first time in some weeks, of the 10 posts being discussed, 4 were by the same poster, about politics, promoting their right wing beliefs.. this has been the trend for some time now, the same name behind a peppering of posts stirring the right v left of politics.. i remain forever grateful to the site and it's founders simon & angharad, i appreciate that simon shares some of these these political beliefs.
it would be a shame to see the site evolve from a place for jw freedom of thought and escape, to political squabbling, that the world is frankly tired of right now.. just to clarify, politics is my hobby, whilst my friends read the football scores, i'm reading polling data.

I think healing after a JW life is likely a life long task. I don't come here because I am weak, though I once did. I now come 20 years later because I am strong and want to help people.
I do think that 19yrs on, if you are still posting your views here several times a day... either you have some serious healing yourself to do still, or an agenda.

Why I care about people who see racism everywhere
by StephaneLaliberte intoday, i was watching a tv show and a black celebrity in quebec said that his latest incident of racial profiling was being asked questions by the police as he was walking in a quiet neighborhood at 2am while wearing a hoody.
then the other guest next to him validated his claim saying that she, as a white women, was never stopped like this by the police.
i became very frustrated and agitated.

It simply feels sad to see the site dominated by people with such a political agenda.
I came here to heal and help. Political debate tends not to offer much to those things.
