Confirmation bias, my friend. All the Jdubs have a vested interest in defending their organization so they will find a way to find fault with the judge, jury etc.

much has been said on what it is like to be shunned but i would like to hear from the other side of the practice: what is it like to shun?.
just to give you my perspective: i was raised a jw, but was never baptized and in fact i was only a real zealout for about 2 years of my life.
for this reason when a friend of mine was disciplined for marijuanna possession it never even occured to me that i should shun him (i visited him the day after it was announced at the meeting to cheer him up).

When I was an uber dub, I shunned my own brother. (we now have practically no relationship). I even semi-shunned my sister who was never DFd but lived her life to "worldly standards". I actually felt good about it. Somehow my shunning of them would move them to come crawling back to the kingdom hall (I imagined). Even if they never came back.....I truly felt in my heart like I was making God proud.
It is amazing how a cult can make inhumane treatment and hatred out to seem as though it is loving.
I will live with those regrets for the rest of my life.

A while back a had a talk with her and told her why I decline to go to "congregation get-togethers". I explained and asked her to put herself in my shoes. I said "imagine if you were a former Mormon......and you did a lot of study and came to the conclusion that your religion was a sham. Would you want to go to get-togethers where all in attendance are Mormons who are constantly talking about their righteous Mormon beliefs?" She reluctantly said she understood.
Well......I now find her becoming "friends" with people she has never liked before. Constantly taking the kids over to their homes........going to every single get together that anyone throws (she used to be picky) at either congregation (our city has 2 congregations).......going to meetings that are in another townd......going out to eat afterwards etc etc. A couple years ago, she complained that I never come home for lunch (when I am at work). At that time I lived 20 minutes from my office. I tried to explain that the logistics of the situation just weren't conducive to me coming home for lunch. She disagreed and told me I was just being difficult. Well.....we have moved. I now live scarcely more than 5 minutes from the office. As such.....I started coming home for lunch. Perhaps one day out of the week she and the kids will be there. Other than that they are always gone. I brought up to her that when I couldn't come home for lunch......she wanted me to. And now that I can.....and do come hoem for lunch......her and the kids are always gone. She got angry and said that I was being selfish.....expecting her and the kids to arrange their days based on my lunch schedule. Alas.......when I add everything up...........I fear that she is doing all she can to keep the kids away from me. Am I being crazy for thinking this?

what watchtower has gotten wrong isn't just their 2 witness rule.
it goes much deeper into other failures of jw dogma that has allowed this injustice and others to flourish in their organization.
Billy, that 2-1-2007 WT also serves as a red herring defense to all of their false prophecies over the years. They've opened a debate as to what "qualifies" as a lie vs an untruth. A witness would claim that never would the GB intentionally deceive someone (bullshit).....therefore the GB has never lied. This is sickening on three different fronts:
1) What about all their quoting out of context? The only reason you quote somebody out of context is to deceitfully try to change the implication of that person's message.....otherwise....you would have included the WHOLE text.
2) THEY are the ones that are re-defining what qualifies as a lie vs an untruth. Gee, do you see any bias there? Amazingly, when THEY provide the definitions.......by god......hallelujah!.......they've never lied!
3) Whether they've INTENTIONALLY lied or not isn't even of importance. This is the most important point. They still spread teachings that are not true IN THE NAME OF GOD. THAT is of importance. The fact that they claim nothing was ever done intentionally is irrelevant. Yet by claiming that....they get everyone to start debating what is and is not a lie.....instead of focusing on the simple fact that intentional or not.......THEY PREACHED FALSEHOODS in the name of God.

i was under the impression that witnesses were strongly discouraged from seeking help from any therapist / psychologist outside of the organisation.
this always made sense to me because i'd imagine that many psychologists would realise that a witness belongs to a very high control group once they start speaking to them.. .

My FIL gets disability payments because 20 years ago, he convinced the insurance company that he was no longer able to handle the mental stress of his desk job. Yet the man runs himself emotionally ragged serving on hospital visitation committees, serving on judicial committees etc etc. As a condition of his monthly disability check....he must visit a phychiatrist once per week.
The irony is that to serve as an elder, he must prove that he is of sound mind. Yet in order to get his monthly check....he must be able to prove that he is not of sound mind.
