Buried my father today
by littlerockguy ini mostly post fluff and music posts on this thread more often now but just thought i would let some people here who still know me about what has been goin on with me recently.
my dad about a 7 month battle with lung cancer which metastasized to the bones and he died early wed morning.
my dad was a fascinating man, complex, sometimes open and sometimes a very aloof and detached person.

My condolences...
I lost my father to cancer (melanoma), helped him thoughout his fight and was holding his hand when he died.
We still had a lot of things to do together...
Ten years have passed now and I think about him everyday... especially now that I am a father.

42% of Canadians can't read (DC Talk)
by burnedout ini heard this statement at the dc today (saturday), the talk about some new brochure to help those who can't read in order to learn the basics of the truth:.
"one study finds that 42% of canadians can not read well enough to function in society... that's right brothers...
of course, no source was given, and then the speaker says how important this new 'tool' will be in the ministry.... i asked the wife what she thought of that and she agreed it sounded fishy.

I asked the wife what she thought of that and she agreed it sounded fishy. If the 4,035 people in attendance today were a fair representation of the Canadian population then almost half of them were not able to read well enough to apply anything in the publications!!!
No wonder 42% of the customers I see at Tim Horton's can only point at the donuts they want!!!

Jehovah's witness meetings are NOT BORING......
by punkofnice in...i was told but they usually were as i look back.. as a lad i'd sit and look to see who the lights would fall on.
i'd get an almond and see how long i could suck it before i chewed at it.
i'd imagine playing rock'n'roll on the congregation's piano.. how did you get through the meetings when you were bored?.

As a teenager operating the sound system, I would plug earphones into the tape machine and listen to the Eagles during the meetings. Watchout for the volume control on the mixer or else everyone in the KH would be listening in also!!!
Other mischief that helped make the meetings not so boring was 'adjusting' the schedules on the information board, you know... crossing out someones name on the TMS schedule or the double-ended arrow to show a switch for an assignment. Sometimes it worked and caused a little confusion... (whaddya mean I have a talk tonight? It got switched with Br. Goofy right?'
After the meeting, I would change the main microphone cable to another nearby plug so the next congo sound guys would turn up #1 and go crazy trying to figure out what the problem was (no, no, Brother you need to turn up #2)
Cueing up the wrong song for the next brother to take a turn at the sound console half-way through the meeting (Yeah buddy, everything is ready for you)
Sorry, I had to have something to keep me busy.

Did you ever 'add' something to WT pictures?
by burnedout inas a teenager, i had to make the tedious meetings a little more entertaining, i would often add my own touch to the silly photos or pictures in the wt articles or current study book.
examples of anachronistic items in bible times pictures easily added: cigarettes with a small wisp of smoke, a pistol, sunglasses, fishing rod, bloodshot eyes, cracks in structures, small aircraft outline with contrail... you get the idea.
(with the right pen and a steady hand it did not look like obvious graffitti.. sometimes the goofy gestures portrayed in the art was just begging for a touch-up.

Sometimes the goofy gestures portrayed in the art was just begging for a touch-up. It was also fun to obtain another persons copy of the WT or book and make a subtle addition in the background and see if the person noticed.
Just wondering if anyone else tinkered with Holy Spirit inspired art.

Most entertaining platform misdeed.
by Slidin Fast inmany years ago before assembly halls we used to hire large halls for circuit assemblies.
the public talk, always after lunch on the sunday was always the big (though boring) event.
the chairman sat on the stage all the time whilst the speaker for the hour long talk droned on.

An older brother, used to be a Bethel Heavy, giving the Public Talk makes a big build up and said 'After the thousand year reign, Jehovah will SHIT on his throne.'
We figured he meant 'sit', but a few of us had to get up to get a drink all of the sudden.
Another time, the TMS overseer at the Written Review(late 70's or early 80's), asked the question wrong, 'What is one form of BIRTH CONTROL?' (the question was about BREATH CONTROL). Everyone is already starting to laugh out loud and a hard of hearing brother raises his hand and gives the correct answer to both questions: 'PAUSING'

Hi SIAM, yes I attended KM school in December. It was horrible. I had already mentally made my decision to resign but went to KM school anyway. The BS was everywhere!!!

Thanks to everyone for the warm reception. It feels good to know I am not the only one to go through this.
It was fun the night of my 'deletion announcement,' mostly I got comments about how people were happy for me and that they could not believe I had lasted this long.
As a contrast to that, most of the elders don't even talk to me now except for the COBE. Two of the youngest, newly appointed elders say hi when they have to. I recognize the look of stress on their faces at the KH.
When I do go to a meeting, I tell my wife, 'Hey, guess what, I don't have to give any parts tonight!!!'
It has been a little while since my 'deletion', so far I have taken my kids out on the canoe, taken them for a ride in the muscle car, and done a lot of
'regular' things. The CA was a pain though, my wife didn't like me pointing out the BS. When she initially asked me what was going on with me, I started off by asking her what the generation teaching meant. She gave me the latest answer of overlapping. I asked her what we were told to believe before that and she did not recall. It really opened my eyes. We had quite a conversation over the next 3 hours!!!
The new light at the DC is a joke, I used to give the public talk 'Your Future, How Can It Be Known?' so I am very familiar with the doctrine from Daniel. All this hype about nothing new. I have plenty of info to gently remind my wife of after that talk is over. I am working real hard at explaining things calmly, so far she resists but understands my condition.
