this is the scuttlebutt in one of the "bethel congregations" by us.. no details as to exactly what this "faith-testing" announcement might be.. anyone else hear any of this pre-zone visit hype?.

Agreed that doctrinal change is unlikely in this venue. Tithing is highly unlikely because they would need a whole lot of 'telegraphing' beforehand to do that.

Lawsuit comments are unlikely. When Henschel was alive, his handling of the 1975 fiasco was to avoid talking about it and I think that tradition probably continues.

Magazine/Literature adjustments? There could be some logic to this because it might make sense to dump these in the US first and keep printing for the 3rd world, until they all get internet service.

if i learned anything from my witness experience, it is that, in balance, there can be too much of an obsession to punish, punish, punish.. while the media wastes time over tweedeldee vs tweedeldum elections, the issues of real improvement and liberty get ignored.

given the eclectic backing of this measure, it suggests to me that it will go nationwide and that's good.. there is hope amidst the partisan nonsense.. .

While the media wastes time over Tweedeldee vs Tweedeldum elections, the issues of real improvement and liberty get ignored. Given the eclectic backing of this measure, it suggests to me that it will go nationwide and that's good.

I continue to be astonished by what I'm reading. I can remember the Watchtower's reputation for solid legal work that they were proud of, in creating a 'firewall' of legal precedents to protect the organization. This has gone in the opposite direction. Do they really believe that judges are going to enviserate the rule of law in discovery - or destroy a legal basis for fighting child sexual abuse - just for them?

I'd still like a rational explanation for what happened. Even Zalkin seems stunned.

Those whom the gods would destroy they first make mad. That's all I got....

I have tried to read all six pages of this thread, including all negative comments by BOTR (who puzzles me as to her "I haven't read...." comments !!!!!!!!)

Can anyone offer a reasoned opinion as to what the f**k the Watchtower thinks they are doing? Or what outcome they sanely expect?

This whole thing looks bizarre. You just don't arrogantly defy a court and expect to get away with it !!! Covington must be rolling in his grave.

I am aghast and can only offer a remark I heard from a long term Bethelite some time ago to the effect that the Society had to make changes to their legal structure because of fear of having a GB member being forced to take the witness stand in court. The context seemed to be that many GB members would be an embarrassment to the Organization if this happened - as in 'they're a couple fries short of a Happy Meal" (my characterization of what he told me).

Seriously folks, does anybody have a clear explanation of what happened? If this lawyer has "20" other clients, then YES, we could see a tidal wave of litigation hit the Watchtower - involving some pissed off judges.

It is disgusting to observe what could be a race between Hillary and Jeb - as if the US has degenerated into a 3rd world country like Argentina.

I am fascinated by what Russia and China are doing with displacing the US dollar - which is very strong now. Even Allan Greenspan isn't sure if they have some long term strategy going on.

Putin gave a wonderful speech recently in which he decried the results of US intervention and called for a multipolar world.

I do think that the cost of US militarism has become unsustainable and that may be a good thing.
