Christmas Aint Jesus's Birthday
by comforter injesus was not born on december 25. that is not his birthday.
why is this day observed as jesus's birthday?
because some christians thought it was fine to mingle christianity with paganism.

Can't some hardcore JW (you know who you are) try to refute my post? I recall my brother when he tried to explain some of his beliefs, and he used some modern pagan influences on our day-to-day lives. I also recall my parents didn't have much to say back to him. Perhaps someone else could give a shot?

I'm just going to pop in my 2 cents on this admiteddly useless thread...(namely because comforter and Yadirf are here...)
So we all know Jesus wasn't born the 25th. Duh... The real problem is, according to the JW policy, is that it's *pagan* in origin. (*thunder in the distance*). The question I'm asking is... and? So? In my college course in Arts, we're presently studying Greek mythology. And you'd be amazed to see how many things in our modern language and everyday lives have a connection to pagan roots. Examples?
The god Eros: The words erotic, erotism are all directly derived.
The god Chronos: Again, chonometer, etc. are directly derived.
The god Hercules: To attempt a "herculian" feat...
The king Sisyphus: To handle a Sisyphean task...
The god Tantalus: The words tantalizing, etc.
The god Atlas: Self-explanatory.
Tons more, I just can't think of them all. And how about brand names?
Ajax was a god... Nike was a god...
The thing is, there's just too much to put here. There are literally TONS of impacts on our language and everyday culture. And are they pagan? Obviously. Greek mythology was deeply rooted in religion. You should see the temples Greeks built for these mythological gods. Beautiful, but pagan. Now you're trying to tell me that since Christmas is pagan in origin, we shouldn't celebrate it? Hah. Last time I checked, I didn't see people praising the cleaning product Ajax for its strength and wisdom. Or asking wisdom from their shoes. Good luck finding a loophole you can explain yourself out of.

I'm trying to find the name of a song....
by mindfield inprobably most of you will know what song i'm talking about, but like me, won't know the name of the song.
where to begin... well, this song is basically instrumental.
it introduces a lot of disney-related movies (for children), specifically scenes that start in a forest.... birds chirping, chipmunks walking around, and the like.

Celia,
I know that's not the one I was thinking of too... but it's the type of song I'm looking for! We're probably thinking of the same one...oh well. The Peer Gynt whatchamacallit should be good enough.

Celia,
No, it's much more peaceful than that... and played with a flute. Ugh... this is way too hard.

It introduces a lot of Disney-related movies (for children), specifically scenes that start in a forest.... birds chirping, chipmunks walking around, and the like. As I recall, only a flute is played. That's basically all I can tell you about the song... It's very popular in children's movies, played with a flute, and I wonder if any of you know either the name of the song (unlikely) or possibly know the name of a movie that had that song in it. Because I can't, for the life of me, recall any.
Thanx for any help...
