How do you feel about your JW childhood?

i was 5 years old when my mother was baptised.

we went from celebrating xmas to no presents or decorations.

we would still go to my unbelieving aunty's house on xmas day, all of my cousins would be playing with their new toys and would wonder why i didn't have any.

I was a born-in. My experiences are as others have said. Having a Watchtower worshiping elder as a father plainly sucked.

I'm a father and my family's life is far, far different.

I know we all make mistakes, but I would be so ashamed of myself had I forced children to grow up in this religion. I know there are some here who did, and I don't envy the guilt they have to live with every day because of it. I do hope they can find or have found peace with themselves. You really do look at everything differently once you become a parent.

i resigned from the jw's in my 20's over 30 years ago, i was immediately shunned by my entire family and it's remained that way with a few exceptions ever since.

one of those exceptions was being contacted by a cousin a few years back and during that conversation i discovered that my mother had been and still was the prime mover in my complete and continuing shunning.

i then used what contacts i had left to confirm it.

From the title I'm sure you know what my answer was. I've been expecting a call of this type and had decided well before what my answer would be. I must admit I did enjoy throwing back at him one of their favorite sayings.

Out of curiosity, which dub-saying did you use on them?

(I'm the type that has to admit I do get a kick out of using their own BS back on them.)

WATCHTOWER Is Trying To Put Cameras In All of Their Kingdom Halls

one of my best friends is in the security business.

he told me the other day of how the watch tower has been in contact with his good friend and business associate.

evidently they are inquiring about putting cameras into every kh so that they can do 24 hour monitoring.

There are actually very valid reasons to have inside cameras running at a church. I would know as I'm in charge of the technology at mine.

In order to not look like a lunatic, it would be best to ask about those reasons rather than jumping off to some ridiculous "so elders can watch the restrooms and so pedos in New York can gawk at the kids" type garbage.

today's london times reports on the july ruling of the eu court that forces the organisation country to comply with data protection.. the action originated in finland but the ruling will affect every eu country.

the cult tried unsuccessfully to argue that the notes taken by jws in the door-to-door work were personal and not accessed by the congregation.

the court ruled that they are acting under the auspices of the congregation and therefore they must comply with data-protection laws.. keeping lists of do-not-calls also falls under this ruling.. why does the cult always feel that it is above the law?.

You people trying to get Doubter to leave are out of your mind.

The story is the same here as it is on Topix. Having current dubs posting on these forums is mana from heaven. They are great examples to show people that happen by about what ridiculous contortions and dishonesty a person must resort to in order to support the Watchtower and the Governing Body.

We need as many dubs exposing themselves on these forums as we can get.

Invite your friends from the hall, Doubter. Invite them all. Please.

BTW, Doubter will likely not return to this thread.

He backed himself into a corner by inadvertently admitting that when the dubs get home they will proceed to write down records that would violate this legislation, as though waiting until you get home to write them down is somehow different from sitting in your car and doing the same.

He reminds me of the guy who goes by "thirdwitness". I've talked him into backing himself into a corner on Topix concerning the blood issue and once he realized what he wrote (you cannot edit your posts there to hide the evidence even if nobody has seen it yet) he abruptly left and was gone for some time until he thought nobody remembered. But I did :)

Since going door to door is neither biblical nor is it effective, why not simply cease the practice and save everyone a lot of wasted time, money, and annoyance.

Then this whole issue resolves itself.

How Long Before They Introduce Tithing?

when i was a full-on believing jw i had an obsessive fascination with mormonism.

i read, studied and watched their propaganda with strange interest as well as their apostate mormon books.

i have to say, they have a good scam going claiming that "the lord reintroduced tithing" in the modern age.

Calm the heck down. Re read my post. I said “it stands to REASON”, meaning, you can draw a logical conclusion. I didn’t make a factual statement. I also used the word “probably”, meaning I am speculating. I am happy to admit that.

School teachers and jw parents

did anyone have problems with their parents and teachers butting heads on the jw 'rules' we as kids faced when going to school.

extra circular activities, sitting out for birthdays and holidays... ect.. the jw that raised me was quite a vocal, loud, sometimes violent tempered person and there were many clashes with my teachers.

thank goodness the superintendent took me under his wing, his wife and him for a while.

In my experience, although this was decades ago, the teachers all understood that these things were not of my doing and that I was held hostage by my parents' bad decision-making. To my knowledge, there were never any conflicts between my parents and school officials.
