Most of the ones I knew that would qualify as "goofy" in most people's eyes were the ones who were SOOO sincere about it. Their whole lives revolved around "the truth," unlike many of us there who did other things and tried to SAY our lives revolved around being a JW. I feel sorry for them now, looking back.

Are a lot of your relatives starting to exit the Witnesses?
by free2beme inbasically in my life i have a handful of relatives that are still in.
my mother and sister, my in-laws and my sister-in-law.
over the last ten years of our exit, they have actually been pretty supportive of our decision.

I wish my sister and brother would open their eyes. But sadly, no. All of them that were active JWs are still active JWs, and firmly entrenched as far as I can tell.

It REALLY does hurt

It always hurts to admit we were fooled. It doesn't matter how smart people are; they can still be taken in by something that sounds good at the time. And being raised as a JW doesn't help. Children want to believe what they are taught by their parents; parents are supposed to be trusted sources. (Many of us here have had bad experiences with parents.) Your father may be very intelligent, but it doesn't mean he can always see the truth.

How long did it take for the fog to lift?
by Honesty ini was inactive for almost 2 years, not attending meetings or reading any watchtower publications before i felt the fog start to lift from my mind and i could truly think.
how long did it take for you?

Not too long, to be honest. I am married to a man who is really good at asking thought-provoking questions. So I was doubting a lot about the religion fairly quickly. That was helped along by the fact that I received quite a jolt and was shown just how much JWs truly care for each other before I was even df'd. It wasn't until a year and a half later that my df'd aunt found me, and I learned the truth about "the truth." As for the rest of life, I've always been an independent thinker. :)

Hilarious comment made at work today about JWs
by Jez inthis old wrinkled little gray haired man about age 65, said in the staff room:.
"jws came to my house on the weekend, so i opened the door, grabbed my coat and said, "i can't talk, i just found out my wife is giving birth at this very moment!!!
" then i slammed the door, and fell on the floor laughing to myself.".

Someone I know from another board (not related to JW stuff at all) told me this:
I haven't had any JW round since a pair turned up as I was dressing pheasants & I answered the door with blood covered hands ...
Don't know if it was the blood or me saying "good you're just in time, we've only just started" -

DID YOU DO FIELD SERVICE IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD?
by badboy inone notices that some jws don't seem to do fs in their neighbourhood,is this common?
-
Wolfgirl
We had a couple of extreme JW elders in our congregation when I was growing up. They were huge, gung-ho guys, and they didn't cut anybody any slack. So yes, we all had to work in our own neighbourhoods. I remember being so embarrassed when we worked my block.

Can anyone tell me what this word means?
by Mackin ini have a colleague who is working with a large corporate client who has taken to using the word "tablestake" in his reports.
one word, no hyphen.
neither of us has ever heard of this word, nor has anyone else i've asked, and the meaning is not clear from the context of his reports.
