Are You A Patriotic Person Since Leaving The Witnesses?
by minimus ini'm into politics but i still don't consider myself patriotic..
-

No cant say I am patriotic.
If I had an "anthem" it would be "Imagine" by John Lennon. I believe in the brotherhood of man. I am glad to live where I have advantages and am appreciative but I think the definition of a good government is one who cares for its people. Most fall short, some are trying, some are not.
For now, since there is no "perfect" I cannot see identifying myself with one particular boundary line over another or one continent over another. We are all standing on the same big piece of rock, right?

Entertainment for International Delegates
by Listener inbibl3thumper has posted a youtube of the celebrations that took place for german delegates.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvs6_q7rqps&feature=em-subs_digest.
it's hard to believe that they are now using the kingdom hall to sing pop songs and for dancing.

I would just like to know if this was just one incident, or if this is being sanctioned everywhere delegates are being hosted?

Alright! The JWs are goin pentacostal!
That wasnt my original thought but it was a comment on one of the links to the above video that said what we are all thinking quite well!
Im with Oubliette, any evidence that this was given a nod from the GB or are some elders here in a peck of trouble?

Where to go from here...
by Patrickday ini'm new around here, but i've been browsing the site the last few days in hopes of finding the answer to the situation i've been going through, so hopefully you can help me.
i met this girl in highschool, but never really spoke with her until about a year after i graduated.
she's three years younger (however it's legal where i'm from, don't fret) and still a teenager.

Her father being the COBE of the congregation means his family feels an inherent responsibility to set a good example for the congregation.
Your friend is truly the ministers daughter.
It sounds like her parents are trying to give her some space but others here are correct in saying the organization itself is going to have expectations of her to "be an example" and no matter how laid back or loving her parents are they can only buffer that to a small degree.
She sounds like she is biding her time to me....being respectful of her fathers position but not wanting it for herself.
Her father is vulnerable in the sense that if the congregation doesnt think he has his own family under strct control then he can lose his position. Ths creates a lot of pressure for parents (hers sound like they are trying to keep that part away from her) and also for the children that love them to be an "example" to other young people so that they father will be looked upon as a good leader.

I think she will leave the religion.
But you dont want her to think YOU drove (or lead) her out of it.
Arrange for some distance between you.
She will probably date or even marry young and marry someone equally young who is a JW, be unhappy and then divorce. That will probably be when she leaves the religion.
After this (this is going to take 2 to 3 years) if the two of you stlll have an attraction to one another, see what develops.
How do I know this and why did I list each sentence as a "step"?
Because this is a predictable pattern among young witness girls who feel torn between their fathers position and a religion they dont want as there own. I have seen it over and over.
Wishing you all the best Patrickday.

Need info on the 3 year elder rule.
by BU2B inso i have read that if an elder commited porneia (or other serious sin) while serving and it came to light years later, he would not necisarily be removed.
i mentioned this to my wife a while back, and she refused to believe it.
is this policy still in effect?

The answer to why elders can use the three year rule and not the pubs is (in my opinion)
1) elders are "supposedly" appointed by H.S. and how would it look if an elder was sinning and serving for years? Better to sweep it under the rug if possible. Of course if he is not cooperative then it has to come out,,,,that is the part they would call "unrepentant" its not about repentance, its about how likely is this to hit the fan.
the other reason
2) its harder to get elders and to keep them.

Yeah, the singers (esp the woman), the drummer -baaad!
Even the back up singers couldnt all sway in the same direction!
That is neither here nor there though. I still cannot believe it was "allowed" at all!!!

Local Kingdom Hall Speakers To Be Replaced By Governing Body Video Feeds.
by donuthole inso we've seen as the current gb is getting more facetime in an effort to reach the hearts and minds of the rank and file.
this took a leap with video feeds at an open annual meeting.
the international conventions are taking this a step farther.. do you think that local speakers at kingdom halls could ever be replaced by headquarter approved video feeds?.

I think it will happen.
As mentioned above, the elder pool is getting slim. Most elders I know would love to just sit there and let some one else talk. They still get the elder power trip title without having to actually work as hard.
Like most things it will be "eased" in so as to be seen as good .
Maybe starting out with a tie in to the Org after the regional assembly to do a review of the assembly.
Next could be "organizational needs" similar to local needs but bigger. Most people will anticipate something juicy or "new light" but these will reapidly become fund raiser nagging sessions as that will be the biggest "need".
Maybe once a month "visiting guest speaker who is a GB helper" so that everyone can show up for that special talk.
Another innocous approach would be to occasionally have one of the service meeting parts - the ones where two brothers sit at a table and discuss something - be handled over the big screen.
Im sure there are lots more ways to do it so that it seems it has always been thus...

After thinking about this (and reading additional comments made here) all day, I think I know what the bottom line is.
Things must be MUCH worse than we know for the GB to be turning such a benevolent eye to all of this. Entertainment from the "world" in the Kingdom Hall? Governing body members wearing big buttons on their suits that say JW.Org?
Yes, things must be near desperation levels.
