Beautifully said Muddy Waters!
I hadnt thought about that idea of a wife having the "full weight of the religion behind her" but you are so right.
Its amazing to see what happens when you just let people be people.
despite my user name, am female.
i was not born-in, began studying when i was around 20, am 50 damn years old now and have spent almost the last 30 years in that stupid religion.
but here are some observations, make of them what you will.

i thought to give a more comprehensive summary, however this pretty well sums up the entire wasted day.. stand and sing.. prayer thanking the gb.. only jw's will survive "the end".. do more.
preach more.
indoctrinate your children more.
What, you didn't stay after for two hours waiting for people to move so you can clean the auditorium, and show your appreciation for jokehova and all his provisions? I so don't miss any of that BS.
Ah tootired, that was always my "role" for the last 30 years.
a pet peeve (major) is that of the gb pressuring kids to be baptized.. checking the aid book today and the following under baptism, no infant baptism.. virtually word for word between the books, except for the deletion of this paragraph:.
"regarding the practice of infant baptism, the encyclopedia britannica, vol.
iii, ed.
There is only one thing this can possibly be about (baptism of children)
CONTROL.
Only it isnt working....the baptized kids are leaving.
so, i have been thinking...what is the formula or recipe for the "perfect jw"?.
here are a few points i thought of...please feel free to add!.
always dress in the jw manner...no variation in clothing / hair styles / facial hair.
Give give give financially. But dont expect anything back.
Give in the various contribution boxes
Give by bringing meat (most people try to get by with potato salad or a dessert LOL) that is expensive - no chicken for you!
Give by buying ALL the gas used so you can drive pioneers around while they drink their coffee.
Give to the C.O.s because they need cash = love
give give give~
some will notice i was really busy during the weekend, thats true as some jws will say i was in a spiritual paradise surrounded by brothers.. my view of a paradise is everybody living in harmony and happy, my weekend experience was more like unhappy people and complaining about almost everything, not to mentioned the quite discussion in the corners (i.e.
gossips).. anyway, during on the discussions, the is (islamic state) topic was started.
it all started when on the elders said that he prefers to talk to muslims in the ministry since they are more open minded and accept our teaching.. i dont come from a muslim background but lived among them enough to understand what they believe.
Da.Furious you are so correct in your observations (sadly).
As someone who grew up in "the truth" I barely recognize the people OR the religion.
I think that the society did less to control members in the past. Some people think the truth was more strict in the older days.
I dont know....I DO know that the religion today is starting to remind me of a government that promises you everything and in turn, demands everything.
Very strange.
someting happened yesterday that i thought might be noteworty enough to relate to you here.. mrs. eyz and i were invited to my new boss's home for his annual end of summer party.
it's a pretty big deal....his is a name known locally (i'll call him j.r.) a really nice interesting guy who's held a number of high level and politically connected jobs.
there was to be music, dancing, wine and reprotedly lots of well dressed, well educated, well to do and influential people (oh yes...and us) in attendance.. anyway we thought we'd make an occasion out of it and got ourselves spiffed up which involved new outfits and extra mirror time before we left home.
exwhyZ! Hi there...
Your story made such a powerful impression on me I have never forgotten it.
I absolutely love your conversation in Home Depot.
It was perfect.
it's definitely on their minds.
i attended a funeral recently and a jw told me that the person who died almost made it to the 100 year anniversary of the birth of the kingdom.. curious what comments like this you've heard in your area?.
(and can't wait for november!).
I have found it to be curiously downplayed for some reason.
I have no idea why.

I understand what you are saying wifibandit.
I appreciate all your effort for those who would like to see whats up.
what was the most outrageous comment you ever heard during a wt study?.
.
please share your experiences..
Thanks for taking the time to reply Wing Commander!
i think you make a good point about educating myself on how cults and manipulative people operate. Point taken!
One thing, you are NOT middle aged, you are young. I have kids your age and I know these things...
"grey is the new black"
"50 is the new 30"
and so on...
the wt study for sept 7th just breeds such a spirit of paranoia!.
using old biblical references just so as to prevent anyone from using critical thinking skills and analysing the "truth".. then using incorrect, leading reasoning to paint any who "think outside of the box" of the org as "apostate".... pure manipulation!.
Sad to say and I hope I am wrong, I dont think the average witness even knows about the Conti case.
