  the Guardians of Doctrine - What was your view of GB 1.0?

  when i was an all-in, younger, somewhat uber-dub - i envisioned the governing body as spending 16 to 18 hours a day at the bethel library, with their noses in the bible and associated research books.

  sky-j was propelling his holy spirit directly at them, maybe opening the book to the right page or paragraph, and zap, new light.. when i learned that these dudes only met on wednesday mornings, for as little as 10 minutes, and spent the rest of their time managing and traveling, it was quite a letdown.. anyone have such thoughts of our guardians of doctrine?.

  They were much better off when they were "unknowns". Then a persons imagination and faith could imbue these men with whatever godlike qualities a person wanted to imagine they had.

  It is a common tactic for political people to try to portray themselves as "down home. just like the average person" traits.

  This seemed to work well when tried with religious leaders such as the Pope, so the Governing Body was advised (?) to try it.

  It has backfired.

  I am not sure of all the reasons why but it has and now they cant really back away from it can they?

  my writing a book about my strange life as a jw.

  i need some help.. does anyone remember when they used to get these charts out at the service meetings which had all the hours, "back calls" and bible studies on it?

  what did they call that?.

  How about a piano in every Kingdom Hall?

  And always someone there who could play it (or pound away as the case may be)

  Also the live orchestras at assemblies.

  The old outline was horrible. The height of impersonal.

  I guess enough was said they got the point and have now dialed it back a bit in the new outline.

  Its about time.

  Meanwhile, pity the poor family members who had to sit through a cold lecture while grieving, those being their last moments with their dead loved one.

  The 50s are a little before my time but in the early 60s, I remember the written review was done with a pencil and you signed it and turned it in to the school conductor.

  The breaks in between meetings was interesting....I remember people would go outside and have a cigarette!

  Bringing children into this System of Things.

  before i left a number of years ago i remember getting bombarded with the message that we shouldn't have children as it wasn't fair to them.

  they would have to grow as conditions got worse during the end.

  is there anything in the literature or was this just through talks.

  They frowned on childbearing until people ignored them.

  Then they ignored the children - just a token book here or there.

  The children started leaving the Org

  This caused the $$ giving members much angst

  The Org bestirred itself to make Caleb and Sophia videos in an attempt to get ahead of the damage.

  I swear, every thread I read here I am seeing more and more how everything they do is a reaction rather than an action.

  the first time i was in distress with the watchtower, i was fortunate to find this place.

  my ego thought ,i was somehow special, that my posts were reaching a worldwide audience, and most of all i felt at ease, maybe home is a better word.

  Any thought behind your " Avatar"

  i think that's the correct phrase?

  anyway when i first came here, that little picture that "the rebel" hides behind, was a self portrait of a very sad man, who simply had too much knowledge.

  now i feel after 7 months here, i should repaint that " avetor" give some happiness to the eyes, and a contented smile to the lips.. in short my " avetor" was a self portrait of a man with too much knowledge.

  The idea of elders being like mill stones around peoples necks was in my head at the time I joined.

  I also like the idea of how a mill grinds things down to the essential and valuable part.

  I am in the process of doing that with my spiritual beliefs.

  Never a JW. I came here about 1 year 4 months ago to figure out what JW was all about other then those people who could not read the Absolutely No Soliciting sign at my front door and to figure out the sudden bizarre turn in behavior after 5 years in the "Elder". He never talked about his religion.
  I have learned a lot on this site and jw facts. The ARC was the real eye opener for me. My heart goes out to each of you who have been hurt by this cult. For me I will be here to learn what is going on in the borg, how children and women continue to be abused. I appreciate the Sophie and Caleb videos being shown over here since I refuse to go to the official JW site. I find these videos to be emotional abuse and just reminds me that if I do encounter a JW that talking about ARC is extremely important.
  I have suffered from a lot of abuse in my life so I advocate against both against children and women's abuse and neglect. This has made me a very strong and determined woman.

  I really admire the effort you have put forth to understand a group that are not automatically likeable. I am a big believer in understanding things too.

  I liked reading how you have used this to become a better/stronger person.
