Please tell Mrs Cold Steel that I agree with her!
Sorry you all had to deal with that during what should have been a relaxing time.
a few years ago while traveling in the northeast, my wife and i stopped in new haven, connecticut, at a b&b we'd reserved for the night.
no sooner had we unpacked and moved into the living room for tea and treats, our hosts began to talk about religion, and we learned they were jehovah's witnesses.
i didn't mind so much, but my wife was outraged that our hosts would use their place of business as a launching point to do missionary work.
Please tell Mrs Cold Steel that I agree with her!

not too sure how long it will be, but i think that i will not be in a position to look at this site.. i met some cool friends on here.
i enjoyed having the speedy access to the private correspondence before the elders.
thanks atlantis, and all those that have had a share in this.
Nice to have met you Quarterback.
I hope this is not goodbye.
Be well, be happy!
i was just wondering about this:.
the laws of the different western countries offer robust protection to religious practice.
but what is the best term to describe it and why?
Yes, an across the board tax would be best.
Wouldnt it be great if the government would tax only religions that shun?
Then watch how fast JWs would change!
It would be like the beard policy!
my recent escape from a home beloved was of sheer and unqualified necessity.
my people and i have been overtaken by a scorpion race of alien malefactors whose intent towards us is not one of beneficent intervention, but that of utter conquest.. if it were only the mere subjugation of a weaker species, we might have acquiesced, although begrudgingly.
however, the terrifying reality enjoined upon us proved to be the conquerors' brusque insistence that their insatiable hungers be satisfied with our quailing flesh.
So.......the invading species demanded more than should be given by a thinking person?
Your very life in fact?
And that was too much?
And you were smart enough to realize it?
Do I see parallels?

I agree Sanchy.
I do think however that with freedom of religion there should come some reviewing of the tax laws.
People can still be free to worship whatever they want but when you slow down the money you cripple the more unpopular religions. Then they have to please their contributors to survive.
let's be honest everyone has their limits, their breaking point.
personally i try to remain placid when provoked, but on occasion i can loose it.
the last time i lost it was when chelsea came to watford and some chelsea supporters had some how got tickets and were sitting in the home end.
Outlaw, have I told you lately that I love you?
Your lack of pretension and your ability to say a lot with a few is beyond comparison.
Thanks Sparky and Outlaw!

I am going to guess that most people fancy that they are good at controlling their temper.
I do better as I get older.
That is all I will say without incriminating myself!
Great thread! Who is David Schafer?
..... let's pose a forbidden question....is the jw faith actually the one true religion?
if you refuse to ask this question with a true open mind and heart, how can it be said you know the answer is yes?
put another way..... if you refuse to ask this question today, how can you really say you know today that the answer is yes?.
Great thread. I think somewhere in here is the factor that most people are the same religion as their parents.
This used to be remarkably true but now that the world is becoming more secular it is not happening as much.
It reminds me of food. People love the dishes they ate when they were children.
People crave that food all their lives. It doesnt matter if it is strictly not the tastiest or most palatable mentally.
It goes back in a far more primal way than that.
That is the way religion seems for a lot of JWs that learned it when children.
