Particularly I noticed #4 on Bournes list.
JWs are known (at least by me) for having terrible diets.
The leadership does nothing to educate them about how to pick a healthy diet nor does it encourage them to even consider it.

She makes me want to go on a "Grade B actresses who think they know anything about social culture" strike.

What’s The Worst Thing About Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by minimus inwitnesses brag about their brotherhood and incredible love that exists within the organization.
they say they are really the only true religion.
is the jw religion the closest thing to jesus christ himself?.

Worst thing?
The arrogance at the top.
The blind belief at the bottom.

If the meetings are so enjoyable and serving the big J is such a privilege...
by HiddenPimo inwhy is it that all of the friends show happiness and excitement when a meeting is cancelled?.
no meetings week of memorial "what a blessing from jah!".
bad weather - oh it's so nice to have a night off.

Was it Rutherford who said, "keep them busy"?
When I was in, I always found the schedule grueling but felt guilty if I didn't attend everything, read everything, meet every goal and so on because I thought it was what Jehovah wanted.
I felt JUBILANT whenever anything was canceled or compressed (and then I would feel guilty about being happy).
I remember when they canceled the book study, thinking about all the years of effort to BE there for the book study and one casual wave of the hand and it simply didnt matter anymore.

Is The Watchtower Society Just Copying The Mormon's Model?
by pale.emperor inwhen i was a faithful jw i was pretty much obsessed with the mormon religion.
to me it was like lord of the rings.
i knew the characters, the history, the events, the joseph smith stories, the religion's history etc etc etc and i long suspected even then that the watchtower society has been copying certain things from the lds church.. for example, the first thing i noticed was when the book study was dropped and family worship was started.

A few years back we had a discussion about the JW website as compared to the LDS website.
There were many similarities noted and someone even presented some pretty compelling evidence that both religions used the same marketing research company to help with branding.
Even down to the two little created characters, what are their names, Caleb and Sophia? Sorry, cant remember but the point was that the similarities were too great to fall into the realm of coincidence and the funny thing was the LDS ideas hit the internet first making the JWs the followers!
You make some great points pale E and thanks for reminding me about it!

Should I do this?
by CivilServant79 inhi there this is my first post as i’m not sure what to do.
my family (both sides) are well known in our circuit and very dedicated to the truth.
but we’re relatively normal people and i love them all so much.

First let me say you are going to be fine.
I was SO scared when I was first starting out and this site was a great place for that so Im glad youre here and posting with us!
I remember some great advice here once was NEVER speak against the Organization. Even if you say you are weak and doubting God (or his existence) they wont disfellowhip you, based on the Bibles saying to "speak consolingly to the depressed souls" (1 Thess. 5:14)
But ANY criticism of the elders or the literature or the Organization is in its own category and puts you under watch as a possible apostate.
So unless you relish that whole scene just sidestep it.
Also, even if you are very beloved to your Uncle, he must put your "eternal well being" (which really means the Organizations standards) ahead of any familial feelings. Keep that in mind always in your interactions. Be shrewd not sentimental that way.
And welcome to the forum!
