Your husband sounds like one of the "good guys"....no wonder he didnt fit in.
Look forward to posting with you!
i've finally got round to joining the site (after over 2 years lurking!
i was born into jws, pioneered for 10 years (met my husband at pioneer school).
had health issues that saw me catapulted away from 'the centre of the cong' and wow what a different place that was!

i am going to make this short.
i ran into a older jw women who i have known my whole life.
she is pushing 80 and will never change.
I think that for at least some JWs, its tied in with thinking that the world is corrupt and the only thing worth anything is the "preaching work".
They think they are like spiritual Robin Hoods, taking what the worldly government has in order to do their more "lofty" work.
i've been fading for about 9 months.
the elders know exactly why.
i received a phone call a couple of days ago.
I went to one of the 7 dayers as a young teenager. It was in Atlanta. We sat through all those days and I dont remember learning one thing!
But they had cafeterias at the assemblies plus refreshment stands. The cafeteria fed real meals. I remember one was spaghetti, salad, garlic roll and chocolate cake. The food was great.
Thats the take away from 7 days,,,,
yep.
i found this book by carmel reilly, it`s called dear god.
childrens letters to god from around the world.
i promise you that if you are having a bad day this book what ever your believes will lift your spirits.

One of the highly touted elders locally is receiving money for a fake disability and yes he is front and center at all quick builds
Until reading here I didnt know it was so wide spread.
at our recent rc i was advised by a sister who was an attendant that they have been advised not to be able to give brothers directions as this should be dealt with by the brothers.
apparently at the pre-convention attendants meeting, the sisters were asked to stay behind.
this was when they were given the news that the brothers should deal with brothers.
I didnt realize women could be attendants until someone posted pictures here of assemblies in England using women attendants.
Is this being done in other countries too?
not only does he say it would be arrogant of him to state only he and his group are the only channel of communication from god but goes on to admit others maybe as well.
what??.

Thanks Crazy Guy!
My personal favorite quote is that whole "guardians of the doctrine" nonsense.
It sounded good though! Especially when I found out that it was Pope Francis that said it first last year in a speech.

I believe this letter was posted earlier Phiz but Im glad to see you posted it.
Its always good to make sure newcomers see it and get informed!
So basically this is their way of getting rid of all the older Kingdom Halls built with love in small towns everywhere by local brothers who knew roofing, how to lay block etc.
Gone are the days of the half commercial/half residential looking K.H.s
Now the Halls are going to be located in either commercially zoned areas or areas the growth indicates will be shortly.
Then they can flip their generic new buildings for turn key operations such as Drs offices, coffee shops and so on.
With their free labor, buying power (basically they will function as their own bank) and their new game plan architecturally, they will secure their financial future.
The only drawback - and Im sure they have discussed this is people getting disillusioned by the obvious.
Religion is fading in devekoped countries so they are going to consider this loss a given anyhow and there are always more gullible people wanting to be "part of a movement" that will come along. So it really is a well calculated risk on their part. Very smart.

Totally different subject: Their use in the letter of 2 Kings 10:15 is once again subtly defining the Jehu/Jonadab class they are so entranced with.
Honestly? They wear this scripture out.
even though i'm no longer mentally a jw (i still technically am) i do recognize that there are some benefits to being raised one.
for example, the first (and only so far) wordly guy i was involved with had to smoke weed every day and got drunk all the time and that was his idea of fun.
i couldn't help but feel bad for him.
Theres a lot to be said for where you look.
The dating scene for some people is a bar.
For other people its volunteering or work or a sport they like.
A general rule of thumb is you will find people drawn to activities that indicate who they are.
Find something you like to do and see who else shares that interest!
