Well now we know how much it "costs" to get yourself a public announcement from headquarters after your death.

I'll bet some of them have been secretly doing this at home but since it's ok now, all the Brothers should turn up to the memorial wearing high heels, tight pants and eyelinerFunniest thing I am going to read all day....even though it is early, I feel confident is saying this.

What is the "Social Currency" for witnesses?
by stuckinarut2 inwhile flying recently for work, i overheard a conversation about the "social currency" that people in the community or workplace have.. for example, a manager or boss yields more power (obviously) over those below him or her.. but one person observed that other factors have value.
for example a parent may have more value in some circles, while being childless may help in others.. looks or how someone carries themselves may also give value.. so it made me think, what is the social currency amongst witnesses?
what gives them power, status, validation or value?.

Another facet I believe would be language.
They have their own words and inferences which are rich in meaning and determine status to a degree. Using the language language skillfully can take you anywhere inside the Org.
"Waiting on Jehovah" - good for any situation where one doesnt want to take action such as getting a job, getting out of a bad situation, dealing with any sort of problem where a normal person would step up...
"Putting the Kingdom First!" - this one allows you to not work hard at a career, get others to donate to you etc...whilst you ride around aimlessly in field service (usually in a car or van whose gas is being paid for by someone not as righteous who actually works for a living) and getting your coffee paid for!
"I So Appreciated This Point in the Study/Lesson Today..." (usually said at the Watchtower study) some variation of pithy comment that reminds others that YOU support the GB and every word they concoct. The power here lies in the reminder and inference that you and the GB are tight, and really....whose gonna mess with that?
Power talking can take you far because the Org needs a certain number of followers to make the others look like leaders.

That is a good point Faye. I hadnt thought of maybe the JW who studied with him requesting it.
As for the paternity suits...Prince was baptized in what...03?
So it will be interesting if any of these people have a birthrate around then.

Two faced hypocritical bastards. I remember my grandfather's funeral not been allowed in the KH because he had been DFed for smoking cigarettes.
I know! Im sorry about your grandfathers situation.... your story is typical. What is atypical is what is happening with Prince.
I would imagine the Org is clinging to the slippery slope of "he was in good standing as far as we know..." at least that is the way their legally edited statement coming out of headquarters sounded.
Bur as Toes Up mentioned above, even the hint of impropriety or scandal can disqualify you for a wedding/funeral in a KH.
Since even chewing gum during a meeting can be an act of rebellion, one can only imagine how many good people had their request denied over the years, hurting their families and friends as well as themselves.
I understood it a tad bit better when it was Michael Jacksons funeral....at least his mom requested it and she was in good standing and funnily enough HE didnt have the sexual reputation that Prince did.
But in this instance, the family didnt ask. If that is being represented correctly, then it has to be the congregation clamored for it or the Org wants to ride this celebrity pony as far as they can. -

So what exactly DISQUALIFIES You For a for a Kingdom Hall service these days?
-----------------------------------
According to TMZ, Prince developed an addiction to the controlled substance Percocet after a hip operation in 2010.
KTSP reported that Prince attended an out-patient rehab program to combat his reliance on prescription medicine.
A man who said he was Prince's illegal drug dealer told Daily Mail Online exclusively that the singer used opiates for over 25 years.
The dealer claimed Prince would spend up to $40,000 a time on six-month supplies of Dilaudid pills and Fentanyl patches - both highly addictive opioid pain killers.
TMZ also claims Prince nearly died from an overdose six days before his death.

Reports of the possible role of painkillers in Prince's death have been prominent in tabloid coverage since his still-mysterious emergency treatment at a hospital a week before he was found dead at Paisley Park.
Those reports were bolstered this week by Michael Padden, an attorney for two of Prince’s deceased half-siblings, who told reporters and local investigators that his clients informed him more than a decade ago that Prince had “substantial” drug problems with the opioid painkiller Percocet and cocaine.http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/p...ener/83638886/

I thought it was time to talk.....
by wozza ini'd like to relate an experience i had yesterday with a couple of jw's "working" with a cart yesterday.. been coming to this site for many years and these days i don't feel i've got much to contribute ,but i was out yesterday doing some voluntary work for a friend who has gone on an overseas trip .travelling around my local seaside area doing the job at hand ,i came across a couple of jw's sitting in a shelter overlooking the beach and had their trolley propped against a large public rubbish bin ,it was actually hard to see ithe trolley from most angles - whatever happened to lifting the basket to show the light stuff ...oh well .the large carpark was pretty empty except for us ,we've had pretty wet weather here lately ,bad storms and here they were set up for a days witnessing rugged up with wind and spitting rain ,i sort of thought " well that's dedication " ....that was my first thought then i pulled myself together and then thought "if i wanted to get some time in and not have to work at it too hard this maybe the place to go if i was a jw still".. well i finished my pickup and looked over at the two and realised i'd read other's experiences about approaching the cart people and wondered if talking to them would be of any benefit as i had witnessed this area for many years and my stance against the wts for hiding molestation of children is well known ,i thought, and they avoid me like the plague.. they were'nt familiar to me so i went up to them and introduced myself and quickly let them know who i was and what i am doing now as regards jw's.
they were a married couple middle aged been in for a long time and could relate to changes in the org very well to pre 1975 when i had first contact.
they pretty much suggested i was blinded to the truth ,when challenged on the royal commission into sex abuse they pointed to a case where they believed a victim they supposedly knew of in the jws was a liar ,so that's their case for the org -unbelievable.

You are very welcome.
I really appreciate it when someone reminds me that we are so much more than a physical organism.
There is hope and yearning and love and so on. Just as essential for our humanity as arms and legs.
One of the struggles I have as I leave organized religion behind, is to address things that feed the soul and sprinkle the magic dust without being "religious" in an overt way.
One of the reasons (I feel) that religions are so pervasive in their appeal is because they at least attempt to address that spot in people. Of course they do loads of harm along the way...
that is what I love about your writing. You capture the humanity of being human.

This was a writing one feels rather than reads....
If ever anyone could use mere letters arranged in such a way that it feels like warm honey being poured over a soul, it is you CC .
Such a touching reminder of the transcendent power that is so much more than our physical body.
Thank you

The self comment accompanying the video describes it as a "lighthearted take" on the subject.
so that is the first part that doesnt fit the cut of the JW jib.
The second thing is it invites interaction and comments at the website.
