by Chook inwhen they sent out internal letter to elders regarding the binding of elders book , worldly men could do the job but only under supervision of a elder.
but under no circumstance could a sister touch the book.
the idiots put it in print, any elders wives on this forum should take it up with their man.

Are quality restaurants even slightly aware of the concept..
by The Rebel inof providing high quality food?.
personally i prefer the small restaurants with a owner who cooks the food.
often the food is equally imaginative and just as tasty as the more expensive restaurant.

My problem is a love of good food but a lack of time and alas I am not that in to cooking.
A rainy day, a great tomato sauce from scratch while I drink a glass of wine, some good crusty bread and pasta and Im done for a month!
My cooking gene must be very dormant.

What is the purpose of life?
by slimboyfat inwhile reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

This was a question that bothered me greatly as a JW. When the then new brochure entitled, "What is the Purpose of Life?" came out, I couldn't wait to read it. When I finished reading it I thought, "That's God's purpose, not mine!Im glad somebody else had such heretical thoughts.
The Org always gave the sense that to not live for the new system was to waste ones life.
All worldly people were hedonists.
But what are the people in the supposed new system?
Isnt the ultimate outcome to have no worries and loads of time and toss a little lip service heavenward?
Take out that last thing and what is the difference between what people do now and what they would do then?

Sounds like the guys are just not that in to it.
The wives probably are and they would rather show up and watch the baby than get browbeaten by their wives for staying home.

So if you find your own purpose and live happily or if you subscribe to temporary work to attain a paradise (albeit due to a benefactor) and THEN you lay around and eat grapes all day,
what is the difference?
In both scenerios the end game is to have a "dream" life.

Midweek meeting video
by aboveusonlysky indid anybody see the service meeting video this week?.
australian sister was sexually abused as a child and thought of ending her life at 14 years old, sometime later jw's call on her father who accepts a study and eventually the whole family becomes witnesses, life gets much better as the sister immerses herself in pioneering etc, she still has some dark days but prayer along with going for walks and swimming has helped her cope with bad memories of child abuse, the new system (just around the corner) will completely fix everything......... i'm dumbfounded, the hypocrisy has literally rendered me speechless......comments anybody?.

You make a very good point about it being harmful, every since I have seen it I have been in such a depression. I wonder how many others have been affected like me.
I am going to my counselor next week and it is one of the first thing's I am going to show her, I really want her take on itOver on a staunch JW site, some of the "sisters" are talking about how much viewing it upset them.
This was a dumb thing for the Org to do. It shows no sensitivity or awareness on their part.
I am sorry you have been feeling down about it all.

What's Is The Goal Of This Religion?

i mean, if it's for money they could do a lot more like other religions do: tithing, paying for prayers from the gb, selling "miracles", selling "blessed" items, selling courses.. if its for power then what are they hoping to do with that power?
they dont seem to do anything.

All the above thoughts seem completely accurate.
One additional thing that might keep them from moving in a good direction is the old "death by committee" axiom.
I suspect there is tremendous in-house fighting for control right now.
