Happy Pi Day

tomorrow is march 14 (3.14), so its known as pi day, to honour the all-important constant.. incidentally, the bible has been criticized by mathematicians because the scriptures give a very poor value of pi.. the scripture is based on 1kings 7: 23 and reads as follows:.

"and he proceeded to make the molten sea ten cubits from its one brim to its other brim, circular all around; and its height was five cubits, and it took a line of thirty cubits to circle all around it".

now that shape is actually mathematically impossible to construct, because if the diameter is 10 cubits, the circumference would have to be 31.4159 cubits.

The Menorah in the Holy chamber has a strange association with the approximate value of Pi. With the 7 lamps and 22 almond blossoms you get the ratio 22/7 = 3.1428. This approximate value of Pi is only good to two decimal places compared to the real value: 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286

What makes it curious is the fact the artwork of the Menorah usually shows the branches of the lamp in a half circle formation which is what Pi is all about, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

At my work today they gave out small Hostess fruit pies to everyone in honor of Pi Day.

London Bethelites Living on Their Nerves?

just got home and received information from a source regarding london bethel: .

a bethel couple told my source that they are getting rid of about 20/25 bethelites every week and that if they are to go, they will get called in on a friday and given their leaving date.everyone is "on edge" and hoping that if they get the boot, they've got time to make alternative plans.. perhaps bethelites everywhere should apply this scripture, by looking for a job and accommodation now - and then just resign from their "vow of poverty" without giving advance warning.

(proverbs 22:3) "the shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself, but the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences.".

Maybe the organization is going to follow the path of Paul's lifestyle.

This months Awake even says under the heading, "religion and money": "WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS: The Bible writer Paul wrote: "We are not making a profit from the word of God."" Then it goes on to say. "Even though Paul was a prominent minister in the early Christian congregation, he often did manual work so as not to impose a financial burden on others. His attitude reflected his obedience to Jesus' command: "You received free, give free."

If they make everyone at Bethel and in the circuit work get a secular job then there will be loads of savings for the Warwick compound.

Something interesting!

i was invited to a small get-together by a long time friend.

we both served as elders for years.

he is in his late 70s.

I can see this being a possibility. My step father was an elder for a long time and once served at bethel in his youth. He stepped down from being an elder not long after my mother married him. When I lived under his roof my mom would tell me that he always argue with the elders about certain matters pertaining to the congregation. If he were alive today I could see him meeting up with that rebel group of witnesses.

I’m in the 30-40 range and about half of my age group has left the WT. The few that have stayed in the Org these last 10 years or so are starting to doubt and leave. There’s a small group of us that get together for social gatherings to eat, watch movies and do whatever. At times we discuss the WT Org that should be. We keep all discussions confidential within our inner circle. We also consider iron, sharpening iron when we have deep conversations about what the future really holds.

All 144,000 are on earth while the Great Multitude is in heaven

" there was no longer any sea " would indicate that what was seen as the canopy , sky , between heaven and earth had gone . Sea was used to depict the heavens in the sense of the sky . So the boundary between heaven and earth was removed ."

Or it could be literal in another sense. John wrote Revelation while on the island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea. He probably had a vision of an empty Aegean Sea or even the whole Mediterranean Sea. The Pacific and Atlantic oceans could still be present. Bible writers never saw the earth from outer space in their visions. If this were true the Jews and Christians would have had globes of earth thousands of years ago.

HBO Scientology Documentary

has anyone else seen the hbo scientology documentary 'going clear' - wow...cults are just mind-blowing you wonder how people can fall for that garbage, then you (those of us former/fading jws) look in the mirror.. i would love for someone to make a major jw documentary like this.

'going clear' is getting a lot of press.

poor tom cruise...he looks like quite the whack job in it too.

I saw the documentary a few days ago. It was quite an eye opener.

In the documentary I noticed the active believers did not respond well to criticism on camera. That may have been on purpose for the documentary. I remember L. Ron Hubbard and one of the ex-wives told their interviewers, “shame on you” or “that was rude of you” about a remark they did not want to challenge. It’s hard to defend a belief system that has no facts to support it. I can imagine why they are so upset.

One lesson I learned from the show is that if you cross a Scientologist they will get even with you as a group. They even black mailed leading IRS employees to get their tax exempt status. I found it very interesting that the higher the levels of Clear you go the more dirt the organization will have on you for blackmail. When a member finds out you’re having doubts they will task special members to scour your Auditing sessions for any form of dirt to keep you quiet.

Finally I now know why they have an erupting volcano on the Dianetics book cover.

A leader of an over populated alien world sent people of that world to our planet and dropped them into earth’s volcanos. After detonating atom bombs within those volcanoes the souls of the alien people, called body thetans, began roaming the earth invisibly. Life’s mental problems are a result of being possessed by these body thetans. The Auditing sessions reveal the life experiences of these body thetans. The goal is to get these beings purged from your mind. There could be many in one person. That is why you try to attain higher levels of Clear. You’re clearing out the aliens from your mind. This is all I could gather from the film.

Maybe the answer to this enigma hinges upon Jesus' statement made to the Sadducees at Luke 20:37-38.

"But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB. "Now He is not the God of the dead but of the living; for all live to Him."

I even think the resurrection of Lazarus gives a clue to this puzzle as well. Lazarus was declared dead for four days. Every part of his body was in the process of decay. Jesus' statement above implies that the dead are alive with God. Jesus tapped into that special place where God keeps the living dead in order to bring Lazarus back.

Back to Saul and the witch of Endor. If it was a demon, the demon would have refused to comply or would have given better news to Saul even if it was false information. Since the message from the woman came true it had to come from God. It would have to be God speaking through the brain pattern of Samuel.

Air strikes recently approved within the last half hour. However, no US troops will be on the ground.

If ISIS approaches the town of Erbil they will be bombed by drones.

I believe the base of mount Sinjar will be bombed by drones if ISIS approaches it. Thousands of fleeing residents are stuck on top.

Trademark office rejects Watchtower's application for "JW.Org" logo

even though watchtower's application has been rejected, they will be allowed to use the logo because it is for religious usage and will not be confused with commercial products.. the trademark office did note this:.

indeed, numerous other marks are registered reflecting the letters j and w:.

The rejection by the trademark office is due to the similarity to the website called jwplayer.com. That company hosts videos, ads and streams for prospective customers.

Their web address ends in dot com but I assume they bought the rights to dot org as well. I looked up www.jwplayer.com and found an interesting point about the company's beginnings. The "About Us" section on their website says this at the top:

"We're the New York-based start up that PIONEERED video on the web."

The word pioneer is not in all capitals on their website but I thought it was funny and worth highlighting.

It looks like jwplayer.com started in 2005. I assume that's when they filed for the trademark name.

gb member anthony morris mentioned a letter that was sent to bethel by a concerned jw fearing the gt.

he mentioned it on the last sunday talk.

i always wondered if any letter sent to bethel ever reached gb eyes.

This is one of the reasons why I don't write into bethel about striking realizations. I know they will dismiss it and consider it a waste of time. They may even mock my idea at an RC just like this guy. All 8 million witnesses were to laugh at that person's letter. If I was that person I would tell them what for.

Sending any letter to bethel can only get you into trouble locally. The only way to avoid that is to be anonymous.
