I understand XBEHERE. Myself, for over 40 years, evolution made no sense to me. However, in time I realized that all my Darwinian culture was fed by the WTS. In other words, when I seriously read what "natural selection" was really about, I was floored! I went deeper in Darwin's real words, read all of Richard Dawkins' thrilling books on the subject, and also watched hours and hours of YouTube gems that made such a logical case for it, with strong logic, reason, and more importantly; hard evidence. The sheer elegance and beauty of Natural Selection is jaw-dropping. But I admit, it takes some homework, to open one's mind that has been glued shut by mind control. Here are some precious videos that will start you off on the CORRECT presentation of the theory of Evolution. I hope that like for me, a whole new world will thrill you! Basic evolution - http://youtu.be/vss1VKN2rf8The false problem of Irreducible Complexity - http://youtu.be/W96AJ0ChboUThe REAL reason the WTS accepts the Earth is 4,5 billion years old, but refuse to admit that man is older than 6,000 years:http://youtu.be/5Dsz9erURvoI'm sure this will wet your intellectual appetite. There is a valid reason why the overwhelming scientific community is atheist. Enjoy!

Fantastic quote on jwfacts Sparlock article
by cedars ini'm not sure how long it's been up, but jwfacts has written his own article discussing the sparlock debacle - and it's a great piece of work.. here is the link.... http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/blog/sparlock.php.
in the article he uses a fantastic quote from a 1994 awake!
magazine which reads as follows.... .

Wow... this debate forgets the whole point!
The Awake 1994, 9/8, is clearly a far cry from the Sparlock video! One is soft and pushes conscience, and that latter clearly titles it's message "Become Jehovah's friend- Listen, Obey and Be Blessed."
One is a suggestion, the other an order. If that is not clear, I dunno what is. -

LOL! jam! Well said! misanthropic , try scientific based evidence and atheism. It's freeing, elegant, fun, logic, reasonable, and you don't have to wear a funny hat or have a secret handshake! True sizemik. true. My kinda person smiddy! Reasonable in my view Phizzy.
oldlightnewshite , your avatar made me piss my pants laughing. Bold!
cobaltcupcake , I started to be deeply happy when I decided to believe in logic, evidence, and reason. All the rest is just wishful thinking in my view.
OnTheWayOut - way to go! I have a lot of respect for Ray, as he never intended to leave Jehovah, just the way the organization was being corrupted. I personally don't follow his belief, but I certainly understand what he went thru. I love his book; no hate, no revenge, just sadness.I firmly believe we have evolved to a consciousness that needed answers that catered to our denial of mortality, while fully ignorant of the universe around us - hence, invention of gods and religion. I think it is time to be passed that. Science has proven the Bible wrong on so many scientific claims, and has offered us much understanding of our human journey; even on the universe around us. We still are at the beginning of understanding, but we have done much progress in the last 150 years, let alone 2,000 years. I see no reason to hang on to old superstitions. Like Bertrand Russell said, "Well, there can’t be a practical reason for believing what isn’t true. That’s quite... at least, I rule it out as impossible. Either the thing is true, or it isn’t. If it is true, you should believe it, and if it isn’t, you shouldn’t. And if you can’t find out whether it’s true or whether it isn’t, you should suspend judgment. But you can’t... it seems to me a fundamental dishonesty and a fundamental treachery to intellectual integrity to hold a belief because you think it’s useful, and not because you think it’s true."

Odd Thomas - Of Whom Shall I Be in Dread? - WT 7/15/12
by 00DAD inno, this isn't about the dean koontz character odd thomas, but those books are a good read!
this is about another, different fictional character, albeit not quite so engaging as the one imagined by the very talented mr. koontz.
now i know mr. ot is described as being just "an unbaptized publisher", but in my decades of experience as a jw any and all "unbaptized publishers" here in sunny socal would be vetted enough to know better than to take a job at a school run by priests.

Good fact-checking whoosier. I like that.
This being said, what that bro was doing working under a priest is at best bizarre. There is a sense of spin in this story... and it wouldn't be the first time. -

EndofMysteries , I agree that ultimately, neither of us have the answer as to the origins of the universe. We both block on the first spark. The only thing that gives me more trust in Science is that we do have ample evidence for evolution, that does contradict the creation story if taken literally (which is a must to justify the ransom sacrifice). ___
LostGeneration "I guess there is no one size fits all. I'd rather people just be able escape the Watchtower, no matter how they end up on the outside."
You make a valid point. ___
cptkirk Unfortunately, Jehovah is such a sovereign. (Hosea 13: 16)
___King Solomon "Sorry, but it's nowhere close to "equal odds", 50:50. There's an absolute avalanche of evidence which is against the concept of God as creator, as depicted in the Bible."
King S. we are definitely kindred spirits. :D ___
All in all, I feel that once you REALLY read your Bible, in context, with an open mind - there is no way you can rationalize the sheer wickedness of Jah. In fact, even Satan himself in the Bible, is never accused of genocide and slavery - as Jah is. I don't know how anyone can justify that.
I see no excuse to jump from JWs to any other denomination. None!

I have pioneered every time I possibly could, gave talks... I was a good JW! But for over 40 years, I had nagging doubts about the character of God. To make a long story short, I'm now a happy atheist! SO... here's my question;
Is there anyone else out there that can't wrap their mind around those ex JWs that drool over Jesus, and how they found the Lord after leaving?
Is there anyone out there that thinks it makes sense (other than the need to fill the void with the same delusion?)
I don't relate... I left the illusions of faith for reason, logic and evidence. I thought most sis the same... but some go strait to triniterian dogma! WTF??? -

Lurkers - PLEASE watch this excellent video on 1914 that uses only Watchtower quotes!
by cedars inthis is a truly awesome video, with a lovely overall presentation, that uses watchtower literature to explain how the expectations of russell and his followers regarding 1914 differ significantly from what is portrayed in modern publications.. if you're visiting this forum for the first time, please watch it!.

We need to help make this video go viral. This is GREAT work, and fact-checking. It is ironic that all you need is WTS material. BUT... get this! My late father, an elder, told me years ago that you can be disfellowshipped for APOSTASY if you recall old WTS material! NO KIDDING! How criminally mind-controlling. Fear not, at one point, they WILL fall. THe generation that blindly follows is dying off... thanks to the overwhelming material available on the net.

The Epic of Gilgamesh Tablet 5 in the bible......
by EndofMysteries inif you read the epic of gigamesh tablet 5. http://www.ancienttexts.org/library/mesopotamian/gilgamesh/tab5.htm.
i noticed how similar it sounded to ezekiel chapter 31. .
everything about the cedar in tablet 5 and the way it's described matches the cedar in ezekiel 31. .
