i have just been going over the candace conti case and it struck me that one of the things i'd like to see come out of this case is that jehovahs witnesses stop involving children in the door to door work.
so what would you say to them to make them re-think this issue..
yes biometrics it would and parents must obey the GB who leave the parents no choice other than to obey them. This is coercion. At least it may be possible to show a thinking witnesss that neither Jehovah nor the scriptures support the idea that children must aim to become publishers and go door to door.

lol Amelia - wish I could say no, there is no scriptural support. The book of Acts and Paul's writings tell about women sharing in preaching and teaching.

hi thoughtless - welcome.
Richard Dawkins is a great person to read and follow if you have time (and if you don't want to you don't need to give up your beliefs in God or religion to do so). The important point that I want to emphasize is that he writes about memes that self replicate and multiply. Well imagine that Jehovahs witnesses teachings are very contaminated with them - examples are armgeddon is just around the corner, the governing body is the faithful and discreet slave. Such memes have been around for centuries and totalitarian organisations (religious and non religious) carry and spread them as much as they are victims of them. The sad thing is that people believe in them even when they have been proved to be empty and wrong.
This is because they are like powerful viruses that you catch that can make you very ill, even kill you or on the other hand make you stronger to resist them in future. Just saying all this to help you to develop some breathing space so that you can work on your own projects while keeping a wary eye on not using too much of your vitality trying to dislodge these entrenched memes from those around you but remaining resistant and strong against them yourself.

I thought so - there isn't any direct scriptural support but as Julia orwell said
Only purpose is to indoctrinate the children. Also to make the parents go out: there's no excuse like, "I couldn't find a babysitter".
Jesus never sent children out in the preaching work and matthew 28 was directed at adults but as punkofnice says the GB in its self appointed capactiy as the FDS (Matt24:45) use such verses to justify making children member publishers alongside adults.

thanks Amelia, I couldn't think of any scriptural support. this may be worth making the subject of a video if there isn't already one.

there are so many things that Jehovahs witnesses have institutionalised - here is an other one - institutionalised deceit. Kudos to Mr Simmons for painstakingly bringing their deceitful practices into the open to show where secluar law has something important to say to them on safeguarding children from child abusers for the benefit of individuals and of society.

The law, even civil law, is different here in the UK in that it is not possible to make a case the way Mr Simmons has done for the simple fact that over here it is recognised that religions relate to their own rules and to their own hierarchy differently than a person does to secular laws and to the state. Mr Simmons closed this gap in his argumentation. So it will be very interesting to see what the appellate court decides after it has heard arguments from all three sides. This may be a lesson for Britain.
I have a lot of respect for Mr Simmons and the arguments he makes are very strong. The wonderful thing is that he puts all that we have been protesting about into a a legal framework but keeps it simple enough to make it understandable to a lay person.
Personally I would like to see that the pressure to go out in the door to door work be removed entirely from children. Imo there is no scriptural support for sending children out in the door to door work. Like Candace Conti my own children want to be the best witness for Jehovah ever. Instead of letting this desire find outlet in praising Jehovah in the congregation through song, through appreciation for nature creation, though energetic play, through festivals etc Jehovahs witnesses only define two public outlets for children - attending meetings and the door to door work. Children are told to be on the look out for and to use every opportunity to engage in the ministry - enter pedophiles like Johnathon Kendrick. According to Mr Simmons 25% of girls and 10% of boys are molested generally (hope I've got my figures right) - so that means that at any given time 35% of JW children can be expected to be or to have been molested and yet WT still insist that children participate alongside adults in the door to door work. This has to change.
