ethos' reasoning is quite convincing to me. Enough to ask ethos, as others have done, how the date 1914 can be arrived at without the gentile times?
edit: just curious
i agreed yesterday to engage in the '607' topic.
i've read numerous threads and am well aware that this topic has been addressed and dissected quite thoroughly.
therefore, if you are uninterested in participating, that's fine.

hi, brothers and friends!.
would make me happy if you say a prayer or wish me good luck!.
been an exciting day, training with you guys before the rumble in the jungle tomorrow!.
healthworker - I so agree with this approach
- Thanks for your questions! I want jws in Norway to make up their own mind about the leaders of the org (GB members). I recognize that manye jws may not be able to live outside the org. So in a way, maybe I want reform. I want to make the leaders understand that they can not threathen me or any other brother to silence.
what an amazing outcome on your JC. I have suspected for a long time that not everyone gets disfellowshipped when we expect them to or when the GB and elders say they will be.
wow after all this years i never seen this stated exactly how i been thinking all these years about my father how unfair it all was!!.
http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/we-will-decide-who-is-a-predator-new-watchtower-instructions-to-elders-on-child-abuse.
how he acts and thinks: even if he does deny it now as a claim that what he did was to save me from his lifestyle being a crossdresser and i would live happier with my mom's family (what bull crap, he just repeated what i told him that i was fine and had my grandparents but i also felt abandoned by him and his family as well).
Butterflyeia85 you emphasize a huge part of this arrangment in which only the branch will decide who is a predator and chances are they will use similar reasoning to your dad. But you know they will be reflecting the reasoning of their God Jehovah, who cannot be criticised but who himself has predatory inclinations and reserves the right to say who is a predator for himself dressing up his own faults in telling people to wait and see how it turns out in the end and in blaming the victim.
this is a spin from palm's thread on a truce.
but i think, instead of getting people to sugget ways that a truce could work... how about we list answers to this:.
atheists: what do you want from theists?.
I guess my reply to the question posed by tec is that I'l like to be able to push the envelope without making anyone feel vulnerable. Atheism imo is still in its infancy and has its own stories, ideologies and mythologies like religions and I'd like to be able to argue against all of this whilst formulating my own ideology as I am coming to the conclusion that it is healthy to have one. So I guess what I am asking is we all (including myself) develop a little objectivity to have a rational discussion.
I have lost my passwords for shelby's site (edit: have found one of them) otherwise if I'd felt like saying something I would have said that I have mixed feelings about her vision. I understand the outrage expressed by many but on the other hand if we receive the vision from the angle of what was low being put on high - a reversal of her awful plight within Jehovahs witnesses then we can bring some fresh prespective to her experience.
edit: i hope this doesn't sound rude or condescending
ricky gervais tweeted this 11/14/12 and i totally agree with it:.
"there are good atheists and bad atheists.
there are good believers and bad believers.. no god has ever changed that.".
at one time I thought hellpuppy from xjwsforchrist was another poster who currently posts on this site. shows how wrong one can be

thankyou gladiator
and I so agree with this
Unsolved disagreement waits in the wings, ready to burst forth as soon as someone breaks the truce.
some disagreements have deep significance and keep coming back and this imo is the wonderful thing about a thread like this because we find there are no easy answers but the disagreements address some of the deepest anxieties/problems known to humans

this is the kind of discussion I like - it is active and passionate whilst anger and insult that stems from capture by JWs is held in check.
Shelby, I just want to say that my atheism does not result from becoming disillusioned with religion through being a JW (I still am not disillusioned with religion but see it in an atheistic frame in that it is one type of engagement with the internal and external world but it is a top down one and it is this that I object to). I was an atheist when I was born then my parents taught me about God and I became a believer in God but by the time I was a teenager I had gone back to being an athiest.
Now that I am no longer a JW or rather no longer experience social pressure to believe I have found my joyful and couragious atheism. When I need help or want to feel pleasure at life and offer my own contribution to it I focus on all my internal and external links to the world in which I live and whatever encouragement I need comes to me and the contributions I want to make are given to it often perhaps for a future.
even though wikipedia isn't perfect, and you still have to vet and research anything you read online, it has proved invaluable to me and many others out there over the last few years since we learned ttatt.
articles on jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower corporations, as well as cognitive dissonance, et al.
have made it a great place to help those that want to free their minds, which includes me lol!.
nice one ray
I really like wikipedia and have often thought about donating.
jw leaks has published the latest court documents, in pdf, relating to "candace conti v the watchtower bible and tract society of new york" as filed on november 16, 2012.. the watchtower society motion to substitute or reduce bond on appeal is denied.. www.jwleaks.org.
