im really suprised he said the situation is not current. that implies there is something wrong with the situation. and it obviously IS current or at least very nearly current.

just yesterday i saw the photo above on a brothers computer too and wanted to look into it a bit. the researcher angelo palego is the source of this photo and the one mentioned in the news article. he is listed in the article as a JW altho his own website calls him merely an 'untiring preacher' but other earlier references, mostly in italian, also call him a witness. (google with 'palego geova')
anyways the guy appears to be a total fake, if you couldnt already figure that out from the obviously doctored photo above. here the news post on a legitamite ark search website denouncing this guy from back in june. guess theyre getting tired of wackos giving their legitimate searches a bad name.
6.25news post (search for 'palego')
Angelo Palego has stepped over the line and is deliberately trying to deceive people just like Tom Crotser did in the 1970s and 1980s. Exactly like Crotser, Palego has resorted to doctoring photos on his website and does not even state that they are doctored. There are no public photos of Noah's Ark. Palego must be realizing that his original photos he was presenting did not convince many people so now he has resorted to altering the photos by adding a boat-like structure. Refer to the December 2000 email to Angelo Palego challenging his evidence. The original photos without a boat-like structure are in his original booklet and were on his former websites. Palego has no science to back up his claims made on his website.

the meetings were held in michigan (bibleexaminer), long island (nytelecom), san diego (elder families only), and here in toronto.. the stadium we used is the same we normally use for district conventions.
unlike the dc tho, which is spread over 2 weekends at the stadium, it was packed absolutely full.
it was very hard to find seats anywhere, just a few singles here and there and lots standing in the halls.
o no, i wasnt expecting doctrinal changes. but perhaps some organzational change like the last annual meeting.
in regards to marvin's comment about lack of insider info, i couldnt help but wonder, as i sat there bored and dismayed, why maximus had made so many comments like:
Going to be quite a show....
Let it be forever recorded that it was our special gal Esmerelda who first published notice of this historic four-hour meeting as fact.
...
NYtelecom, you will remember the major points. Trust me.
and here and also on an h2o thread, implying that GB org changes were forthcoming. was he being sarcastic about the importance of the meeting or just pretending to know more than he did. i dont mean to cast a pall on our good friend max. i spose im upset because i had to sit thru it. you all know that with some people speculating wildly, i wasnt expecting anything big. but even *I* was sorely dissapointed by the non-event.
expat: yes, i recall you mentioned international conventions (among other things ) and youll recall i replied that they were due to be held in 2003. i spose it wasnt 'official' until now.

i was expecting there to be at least SOME small interesting announcement that i could spend some time analysing but there really wasnt. like i said initially, the only announcement was that fact that these meetings were being held. the implication was that they would continue, perhaps in different cities each year. i hope they come up with a better name for them. the badge cards/tickets actually say in bold letters at the top: THE SUPPLEMENTARY MEETING FOLLOWING THE ANNUAL MEETING. perhaps that could be shortened. jokes with the word 'supple' come to mind.
i can barely get up the energy to write out the synopsis, i was actually upset to have to spend all that time to go all the way out there and look around frustatedly, for parking and seats, just to find out the GB is so desperately out of ideas, they can only say, 'well what if we just keep doing what we're doing, but do it MOOOORE.' i imagine the other GBs sitting at the table thinking to themselves, 'heeeey, i like it. i like it a lot.'
but thank you all for reading thru this and commiserating with those of us unfortunate enough to have had to sit thru it.

(same in nyt's) and because everyone drove and parked at the stadium and not at hotels, parking was even harder to find.
i moved along with the crowds towards the doors and just managed to brush aside my jacket far enough to reveal a bit of green from the corner of my ticket/badge for the attendant as i was corralled in, carrying my large tape recorder (which turned out to be near useless due to sound quality.) nyt is right. anyone couldve easily got in.
The program: (times are approx)
Watchtower summary (local speaker - 30m)
usual for any assembly that preempts the usual WT study.
Summary of experiences and talks at annual meeting (Splane 15min)
very brief
Relief from Crisis - A Practical Remedy (Pierce 15min)
buildup to announcement of new yeartext, 'Come to me and i will refresh you - Mt 11:28'
Highlights from special conventions in italy and france (2 parts - local brothers 1hr)
conducted in interview style, 4 brothers for each country for 8 long interviews.
Song
Courageously trusting in jehovah in these critical times (Splane 30min)
started out with importance of trusting in jehovah and not ourselves as we get ever so close. summary of situations in armenia, georgia, russia, france, and NYC. nothing much new to jws and ourselves who are on the net and get these experiences ourselves. couple interesting comments were:
'brothers ask if there is anything they can do besides prayer. but prayer is the MOST important thing they can. the most helpful...'
'we can be sure the heavenly organization is focused right now on the events here on earth. all the angels, the 135,000-some anointed already in heaven...' (thought the 144,000 minus 8,000+ calculation was interesting.)
the meeting is obviously running long and people are starting to drop off now.
Moving forward unitedly with jehovahs organization (Pierce 45min)
now, a full 2 hours and 45 minutes into the 3 hour program and Br Pierce came up to give the last talk and im thinking, 'ok. finally. this is it. whatever they came to say will be now.' He starts out, 'some have wondered why we set up these special meetings. was there going to some momentous announcement? maybe announce a new date for armageddon?' there were light chuckles. i thought it was nice that the GB can joke about it now. theyre really ok guys. he continued, 'no. the governing body just felt that it would be nice to include more people in on the excitement every year that goes on at the annual meeting.' He lamented that their original plans had to be scaled down a bit because of major league sports rescheduling. He then pointed out how much excitement there was, for example, in the fact all the attendees at the 4 locations got to find out what the new yeartext was AT THE SAME TIME. i had goosebumps. he followed with some more NYC experiences and tidbits from the meeting the day previous. as he was finishing up he said, 'the governing body have given prayerful thought to this meeting and have composed this announcement.' could he redeem himself with some actual content, i wondered. the announcement, as near as i can recall was this:
as we look ahead to these critical days, it is important not to 'forsake the gathering of ourselves together' to 'incite to love' but especially so 'as you behold the day drawing near.' in keeping with this, the governing body has plans to hold district conventions all over the world next year. and in 2003 iiiifffff it is jehovah's will, we maaaaaaaay hold international conventions in certain locations.
pierce over-emphasized the words just like that. now conventions around the world is a non-announcement of course. and the last international convention was in '98 and these are normally held every 5 years so this is another non-anouncement that only served another opportunity to get people excited about 'how close' we are. after reading the quoted announcement, he couldnt leave it alone but summarized, 'so thats what we plan. we dont know what the world situation will be by then.
the entire 3hr meeting ran 45min overtime.

i want to barf.
i was wondering when the hell samuel herd was going to shut up.. blab blab blab.... aren't we wonderful, oh we are so wonderful.. about the only thing that was said that i could see as being something which the gb would see as touchy enough to warant the multiple announcements for " no tape recorders, no video recorders and no computer note taking" would be the statement by herd that there's "going to be a lot off killing, billions will die ....in swift fashion".
and the other gb (fill in the name) who talked about being in the new world "in two hundred years".... wow.. that's leaving enough prophetic lee-way for the gb heirs to the thrones.. much emphasis was placed on the "...two roads to the new system ...the high road and the low road".
hey, we didnt have anything in ours about corporate adjustments and congregation adjustments. altho the 2 point you related from your grandmother are already the case arent they?
'200 years' comment was probably just in the context of, 'imagine what it will be like in 200 years in the new system...' - just some arbitrarily high number that would OF COURSE place the narrative WELL into the new system.
please tell us a bit about long island nyt. who were the speakers there?
im still writing up a longer summary and will post soon.

i know that while being a witness, we were not really allowed to watch horror movies, or anything that smacked of demonism.
anything supernatural.
my question is, what movie or movies, since leaving the society, has really scared or upset you?
the story that scares me the most since being free of JW thinking is not Alien, Body Snatchers, The Fly or Halloween. I saw all of these WHILE a JW and had no difficulty seperating these artful fantasies from the few rare realities of spiritism (as i understood it.) What was to be afraid of? The demons couldnt touch me and i never really believed ALL of the JW demon urban legends anyways. like seeker, my new found skepticism has detached me even further from fictional horror.
the horror i cannot avoid is reality.
this is the story that, as a JW, i was insulated from. nothing in reality could touch me or the world in any significant way. the future was spelled out already and no permanent harm would be allowed to come to anyone undeservedly. but now that assurance is gone. a few idiots with nuclear weapons really COULD blow up the world. the 5000 people in new york actually died and ARENT coming back. if war ensues, more could die suddenly and there is no certainty about how far it might conflagurate, or about what sorts of hideous weapons could be used. someday, i and everyone i love will be dead.
this is what keeps me awake at night now.

could anyone who is attending the special meeting on october 7 arrange to tape record it?.
it would probably not be that hard to bring in one of those mini-cassette recorders and at least capture part of what is said.. i am sure others who are unable to attend the meeting would be interested in hearing a recording.
and if it turns out to be a "historic occasion," it would be nice for the world to have a document of it.. comment
the society has not requested that you not tape the program. afaik, the same standards apply as all assemblies, namely, recorders of any kind should not distract anyone and may not use audio or power jacks at the stadium.
3 locations of which i know are:
michigan
san diego
toronto
wheres nyt going? the originating location? where is it?
also, maximus mentioned nassau center right at the beginning but i havent heard anything else about that.
--
ah, a little more research and i think i can answer my own question. the originating location IS nassau colliseum (the name threw me - i thot it was in florida) in uniondale, long island. is this right? so 3 locations are tied into NJ, thats all?
