  securesites?

  the wt sites appeared to be down yesterday and now theyre up (could be any number of reasons) - now i dont look thru the site very regularly so i dont know if this is new but the site contact tool has been moved behind a secure ssl layer using this securesites.com and in fact, the entire site is accessible thru it:.

  https://watch001.securesites.com/index.html.

  just curious why they would need ssl.

  yeah, thanks hadenuf - i had found the privacy link after you mentioned it the first time. what it says is true with respect the watchtower.org form but not the jw-media.org one, from which the same privacy form is linked. anyways its no big deal. the most likely explanation for the difference in content is the site's been updated since the last content dump to the secure server.

  ldh: any web server records your IP and browser details, secure or not. an SSL server simply uses 2-way encryption to transmit the data and prevent an eavesdropper from making any use of it. i spose considering that the wt.org form asks not just name and address but phone number, best time to call, etc. they may consider this info sensitive enuf to warrant SSL.

  hmm, well i noticed the media register link but again, i dont know if thats new or not. i DIDN'T notice the privacy policy tho and the mention of SSL, however i can say that the form submission on the media site is definitely NOT SSL-encrypted, so perhaps this is very new and they havent got everything switched over yet

  just curious why they would need ssl. typically, this is only needed for transactional processes or sending sensitive info. is the name and address mailform considered senstive enuf to warrant this? i spose it could be. any info?

  Recognized by Baptism or Service Report?

  i have been wondering for a while now:are jw's recognized as such by their public baptism or by .

  the service report they turn in every month?.

  when i was studying,i was constantly told that to become a jehovah's witness,one had to make a. public declaration by getting baptized.2 1/2 yrs after i was baptized,i was stripped of all my privileges.

  i agree with ex. this sounds like a local decision - cong or circuit level - maybe due to a large number of low-hour brothers that was perceived as a local problem

  as to the attendance numbers, an inactive attendee will push up the attendance % true, but only if they are actually 'inactive' ie no report in 6mo. if there are some months, or even one month reported in the last 6mo, thats 'irregular' and they are counted into the denominator number of publishers, and are therefore generally pulling the numbers down.

  there are other wacky things that come out of the numbers, like the cong hour avg dropping because there are too many auxillary pioneers. sometimes the elders are a bit relieved when a struggling AP drops off the AP list, since they will boost the cong avg.

  It doesn't really matter to me, I'm trying to figure out a way not to go at all this year. I'm hoping to catch a summer-long flu bug or something. Pray for me!

  i think its really sad that you would say this. i understand how you feel and i dont have any better ideas to give you. i just think its really sad that someone would say this, even half-jokingly. i just wanted to say that.

  here are a few notes i took at the friday session of the 2001 "teachers of god's word" district convention.

  i thought i would share these upbuilding theocratic point with my new friends, along with my thoughts as i was listening to the program.

  1st instruction of the day: sing loudly and listen to the prayer!

  Thanks, i will check in for more notes too. I will be curious to see how similar the talks and experiences are at ours. if indeed, as Fark posits, the experience pool is so shallow that the best get used as standards everywhere.

  re the pioneer who declined the scholarship: how was it that she could have had her pioneering needs met to 'the exact dollar' - what does that even mean?? she totaled up rent, food, and minimum supply of goods and she met that amount exactly without a dollar to spare? that doesnt even make sense on any level. im sure your short description is not giving the whole story and it makes a LITTLE more sense in full. but we hear 'exact dollar' type experiences a lot. what? doesn't Jehovah tip? i guess if we happened to receive a good deal more than our absolute minimum requirements we'd know Jehovah had no hand in it.

  "Hey, alright. i got $100 bonus. Id thank you Jehovah, but this doesnt sound like you..."

  door-to-door records

  i'm trying to get a picture of how d-d records are used.

  particularly, with regard to household security, are 'persistent nhs' kept in the maps in your area?.

  i used to file the cong maps, and we kept old d-d records back to target these persistents at unusual times.

  ive worked territory in many cong.s and ive never kept records between sign-outs except for DNC - and ive heard of very few cases where a cong does. sometimes, if theres a need for phone territory (ie shut-in publishers) and none readily available (locked apts) then old NHs might be kept. also, a very few elders/servants feel that our ministry would be more effective if we start out in the territory with some idea of what happened on previous workings rather than starting on a blank page every time. but generally the increased paper-work involved in any case is too prohibitive unless there is some special need. i think the more common case is a lack of good records due to neglect or incompetence.

  it only takes a minimum of scrutiny to discover that fact, too.. there is something god did not want adam and eve to know.

  he didnt want them to know the difference between good and evil.

  yeah, i know farkel. i just thought it was a pithy observation about old habits. but on another level, it actually does bother me to have to apply all this analytical power to the genesis story for the reason that it really is a very, very nice piece of literature. the original work by J, once seperated from later redactions and editions, is a very moving, memorable story with lots of subtle ironies. its a shame what fundamentlism has done to it.

  it only takes a minimum of scrutiny to discover that fact, too.. there is something god did not want adam and eve to know.

  he didnt want them to know the difference between good and evil.
