hey let's not chase this guy away. hes bringin some sorely lacking intelligent apologist thoughts to the table here. let's not jump too quickly on the 'God's organization' statement. i think this may have been a bit tongue-in-cheek.

does freedom of thought really obtain in this forum?
are those who have left god's organization and jehovah god himself actually now more open-minded and unbiased?
if those who espouse atheistic thoughts or those who believe every vile utterance spoken against jehovah's people think they are now speaking from some olympian perspective, i beg to differ.

ive just heard about a suicide here in toronto, a brother, sounds like a family man.
i dont know any details but i was kind of disturbed because its apparently a matter of some controversy.
some feel that they should not attend the funeral since it was a suicide.
congratulations on finding the '77 reference. i was told where it was before this and still had difficulty locating it. here, for reference, is the discussion in w75 and the snippet that reveresed it in w77. i have still not heard any more details about the individual involved beyond what i mentioned.

What, then, should be the attitude of members of a Christian congregation as to attending funerals of reported suicides who may have been associated with the congregation? What about an elder who has received a request to conduct such a funeral? Where death appears to have been accidental, even though it was reported as a suicide or may have involved mental illness, the consciences of some members of the congregation may permit them to attend the funeral to comfort the bereaved ones. Also, it is left up to the personal decision of an elder whether he will conduct such a funeral upon request. However, the congregation may prefer not to sponsor such a funeral publicly or to have it in the Kingdom Hall because of the effect it may have on the uninformed community.
On the other hand, where it is a clearly established suicide, members of the congregation and elders may desire not to become involved in the funeral. In such cases arrangements would be left to the family itself for a private funeral where some member of the household might say a few words for the sake of the relatives. Furthermore, some may not desire to attend a funeral of one who is believed to have committed suicide where the funeral is conducted by someone other than a member of the congregation or by the funeral director himself at the request of the family.*** w77 6/1 346 Mourning and Funerals-For Whom? ***
There is also the matter of giving a witness to Bible truths. Usually a funeral is attended by neighbors, acquaintances, business associates and relatives, who may not be believers. All these stand to benefit from a funeral or memorial service at which a discourse is given presenting the Bible view as to the condition of the dead, why men die and the hope of a resurrection. Because of such fine purposes being served, it seems that a Christian minister could see his way clear to conduct the funeral of a Witness? unbelieving relative?or even of one who, in a condition of extreme despondency or mental derangement, had taken his own life. And fellow Christians could extend comfort to the bereaved Witness by attending.

not many people know but.... the song book is ordered alphabetically by the first word in the song.
i guess it helps to find it when you missed the number and everyone starts singing.. i just noticed though that song no.
28 is out of sequence.
not that it REALLY matters but it actually says they are ordered by first word 'where possible' - in order to keep the page breaks in the right spot. theres actually a bunch out of order.

funny, our DA (the other half of Had Enough's) didnt have much mention of stats. the final talk did mention april numbers i believe, noting that these were 'the FOURTH highest' ever.
i guess the days of 'x number of consecutive peaks' are gone and now we'll be happy to make it into the top 10 every now and again.

apparently that _was_ the position taken by the WT at one point and then later flipped. i havent looked up anything yet and i'll prolly hear more details soon. ill just start the thread and then add stuff later.

just received a telephone call from a non-jw close friend who does not post on the board.
for some time he has been writing a very detailed biography of judge rutherford that will be meticulously documented.
he's spent many weeks visiting the judge's roots in missouri and elsewhere, with very informative results.
Mac made no bones about his disdain for the Judge's behavior.
wow, i never picked up on mac's attitude in his book. id love to hear more about him. i really liked his account of things.

this may have already been discussed in this or other forums and i may have missed it.. in another thread chipster mentioned something about coming up for reappointment after a move.
especially if i was coming up for reappointent after a move.
it has always been a puzzle to me why a brother should have to be reappointed to his position after he moves to another congregation.. i have never heard anyone complain about it.
sawthelight, that situation isnt really that unusual. a brother can give instruction talks and service meeting parts before his re-appointment provided he has a letter of recomendation. i have done so myself many times and im certainly not related to ken little, heh.
i even had a local public talk once before my re-appointment which was a bit odd because the chairman would normally announce the speaker as 'a local elder' or 'local ministerial servant' and he couldnt really think what to say for me.
