15A Legal org to represent former JW issues?
by Pathofthorns inseveral issues, such as the un matter and others requiring comments to the press could possibly be better served if there were a small body of qualified individuals, including lawyers and other professionals and others that were former witnesses extremely well versed in jw issues.. comments to media, governments and various organizations on matters such as blood, child custody, child abuse etc would carry more weight coming from an "offical" organization.. in the former jw community there are many with good intentions but often find themselves making inaccurate or unrestrained, poorly worded or overly sensational comments.. these sorts of comments set the former witness community back and sometimes give credence to the labels placed upon us.
on the other hand, well worded, accurate statements made with a knowlege of how the wt pr machine works can effectively tie their hands and force the wt to make changes.. with this in mind, what is the viability of such an association to represent former witnesses?
it need not matter whether one is a christian or athiest or whatever, as the purpose would simply be to comment and investigate and expose wt policy.. i am sure this has been tossed around before.

just an arbitrarily large number. but it is intersting i spose that in previous years, an arbitrarily large number might have been 20 or 50.
i wouldnt make too much of this comment either. was just off-the-cuff. our speakers made no such comments.

i dont know how organized such a group would be. i certainly wouldnt wanna be in charge of trying to organize this rowdy rabble.
however, a good first step would be for individuals who would be willing to be media contacts and have some expertise (financial, medical, legal, social, etc) to identify themselves and state their area of expertise. kind of like our own allexperts.com group.

one can see the value of laying out the cards from the beginning considering whats happened today. if the name is pulled off the site now, the bait-and-hook approach will have an anti-climactic wrap-up.
i spose if it were me, i would actually apologize for giving the impression i knew less than i did and just lay out the facts plainly and concisely without editorializing. demonstrate rational thinking by saying things like, 'what does this mean? some people say this. some people say that. we dont know for sure. i, myself think the truth is probably somewhere in between. here's why...' this also means that whatever exactly this new development is, the person we're talking to will be able to keep up right along with us and see what's happening.

MAJOR UN/WTS/NGO NEWS - WTS IS GONE
by hawkaw inas of 11:45 this morning (i had a telphone call this morning with the refernce department person named holly at 212-963-7234), i can tell you that the watchtower has disassociated itself from the united nations dpi!!!!!!.
the dpi is now taking them off the list.
the dpi requested the list removal to be done this morning!!!!!.

finding friends outside the Borg - a Scary thought
by lydia inhas anyone else found that the teaching of the "outside world" being a "bad association" limits your involvement and ability to make new freinds?.
if so how have you overcome this and any suggestions to helping those suffering from these feelings?.

i for one agree with bgurltryal. i DO tend to 'boo-hoo' about my background. and i appreciate anyone who helps me get some broader perspective, even if it is a bit harsh.
on the other hand, i dont think she really understands how hard it is to make the transition and takes it a bit personally when we talk about 'worldly ones' without understanding it is not meant derogatorily. in fact, we are being more self-deprecating when we use the term, exposing our hated conditioning and prejudices.
we all spend our lives surrounded by billions of humans just like us, believing that somehow we are so different that no one else can truly understand us. the irony is everyone else feels the same way.

Has the WTS ever made a prediction that came true?
by Leander inthis morning a thought occured to me "has the society ever made a prediction or prophecy that has come true"?.
most of us are familiar with the prophecies or dates the wts has emphasized in the past.
of course all of those predictions never proved to be accurate so the question is, "if this is god's prophetic organization where is the proof"?.

nyt, that was childish and way over-the-line. and yes, i get that you were just trying to demonstrate the pointlessness of personal attacks and the emotional effect that they have on an argument but you chose a really crappy way to make that point.
i think ive been pretty fair to you. you seem bright enough. why do you try and make enemies so much? im an active witness too. plenty of active witnesses read this board. why do want to antagonize all of us too?
