loyaty to jehovah also includes loyalty to his organization.
necessarily, over the years there have been corrections and adjustments to our understanding of certain scriptures.

anti-baptist? i think u mean ANAbaptist. (ana=again) i would think the JW origins are more closer connected to anabaptists, though beliefs were obviously borrowed from a number of protestant schools of thought.

Bird Seed
by Trilobite insometimes we forget how hard some of those hailstones of congealed truth from the society really are.
note how the society essentially states that because humans nuke and napalm each other that we should not be surprised that so too would god.. t.. *** w56 8/1 465 jehovah's message against gog of magog ***.
16 in the wake of armageddons carnage, disease and pestilence from the rot and decay would plague the survivors were it not for the fact that jehovah sends forth an invitation to the birds and beasts to attend this great slaughter.

incedentally, pm = Paradise Restored to Mankind - By Theocracy published in 1972
interesting that the horror of modern weaponry like napalm is in other places used as a proof of the devil's existence.

A few things I don't understand about the bible
by Leander inthere have always been things about the bible that never really made much sense to me.
not to say that i disagree with whats in the bible but i have wondered about the fairness of certain things.. 1. for example i've always even as a child thought that it was odd that so many people would die during armageddon.
now as an adult and i understand people better than i did years ago i really do feel puzzled about the fact that according to the scriptures the majority of mankind will perish.

re kings of north & south
conventional interpretation by both catholics and jews applies the entire timeline to the seleucid and ptolemaic rivalries. this fact was mentioned in the original Daniel book, Your Will Be Done, but omitted from the summarized version in the new Daniel book.
this interpretation makes me much more comfortable. otherwise we have to assume that the writers spoke at great length and detail about events in maccabeen times and then suddenly skipped centuries ahead for a few verses and then skipped a couple millenia ahead for a few verses more. all with no warning of the enormous periods of time that were being skipped. why would anyone choose to prophecy like this. if the purpose was to foretell events in our day for our warning, why devote the majority of the prophecy to events in ancient kingdoms and only a smattering about the 20th century?
the lopsidedness and gaps in the WT interpretation are harder to recognize as you read or study the Daniel book, since so much intervening explanation is provided to seam together the historical spaces. try this: simply read the biblical narrative, then apply the WT meaning to the verses as you read and ask yourself why anyone would record millenia of history this way.
the theory that this prophecy itself is a product of maccabeen times has much support, but this is another story really.

Overweight JWs -- on the increase?
by Seeker inyes, i know, the title is a pun.
it was deliberate.. i can recall in the 1970s seeing very few overweight jws.
in fact, i used to think (in my arrogant jw manner) that this was a sign of how jws were better at self-control than worldly people.

Pros and Cons about Jehovah's Witnesses
by Leander inthe purpose of this post is to try take a close but un-biased look at whether or not jehovahs witnesses are the right religion.
in my few months of doing research about jw's outside of their own publications i've came across a wide variety of viewpoints.
some people are skeptical or unsure if the wts is really the right religion, some are certain that jw's are wrong but have no ill-feelings toward them, some individuals downright hate the organization and still others are certain that the wts is the real deal.

Friendly,Outgoing,Gossipy Elder's Wives.....,
by JonnieMae inhave you noticed that elder's wives are so friendly that they get a lot of information from the other sisters and go right to their husband (congregation overseer) with the info?
it's no wonder the elders seen to know so much.
do you seem to have a simular situation in your congregation?

sometimes this cuts both ways. a rather humorous episode in this area transpired when an elder's wife was out with friends and got a bit tipsy and revealed things about her husband she shouldnt have. he was removed as a result.

this sounds a little extreme. altho there are certainly parts added and altered during the exile, i thought the current consensus was that most of the composition was about 7th century, perhaps parts being as old as 10th century. ill check this book out tho, sounds interesting.
