Concerned JW- Thank you for your side as well, like I said, I am not here to bash the JW at all. I like all of the JW's I have met so far, very much. And I see them as sincere, good people who want to serve God. I appreciate hearing both sides. Thank you. :)

I'm new here..... Studying with the Witnesses
by PenelopePaige inhi- i just wanted to say that i have been checking the website out for a few weeks and have read some horror stories and some sad ones.
but i have been studying with witnessess for about six months and can't help but feel that they're completely sincere and maybe even, the true religion.
i love the watchtower and awake and to me, none of that seems crazy.

Partydelights- Thanks so much for your story. Very interesting :) And I'm so sorry you were in prison for three years! :( But I'm so impressed that you have read your bible cover to cover three times! I haven't even read mine cover to cover once. But I plan to. :)
You know, I was thinking about it and I think what I was drawn to with the JW's, is the structure. It's very structured and even though I do not like being told what to do and what to think, I like things being laid out for me, I've come to realize. Oh- That's no good! :) Another thing is, I find that when I study the bible on my own sometimes it confuses me more. I hope that doesn't make me sound like an idiot although it probably does. But I also liked being able to ask a question and having someone give me an answer. I think with the particular church I was raised in, that was a problem for me; asking specific questions and not getting an answer or not getting a very good one.
Cadellin- Thank you too for your insight. and I do see from reading people's personal experiences on here that there is a lot of hurt and very damaged lives from having been in the JWs. Even though, I really am not here to bash them, because like I've said before, it comes across as all good stuff and I do see them as having "the truth" most of the time. I was talking to a guy on here who is a JW still and he was saying, and I completely agree with him, that nowadays so many churches are all about what God can do for you and not about what you can do for God. I do see alot of selfishness and greed in the world and I like the way the JW's are at least trying to do the right thing. Although when it comes to disfellowshipping and shunning, I think they've got the wrong idea. And in the end, I don't want to come out ignored and damaged, having felt that I gave so much to just be walking on eggshells and scared to make a wrong move. So my plan is to just continue on reading my Bible, reading the Watchtower literature, and trying to figure it all out. :)

Is there a reason why you would conclude that the particular being of light you encountered was Satan?
I suppose I may be leaving out a huge chunk of the story but after this happened, (our encounter) we had a few other strange things that were completely unrelated but always felt, to me anyway, to have stemmed from that initial encounter. For example, sometimes we would be driving at night (desolate roads out in the middle of nowhere) and a dark figure would run in front of our car almost making us wreck. This happened about five or six times, it always emerged from the woods and would run back into the woods on the opposite side of the road. We also moved into a house about a year later that had a ghost- long story but it wasn't just your "explain away" ghost story- we actually had a little boy in our basement who would walk out of the wall and say "Lonely. Stay here." before vanishing. It was really quiet awful. My husband thought that the UFO thing had absolutely nothing to do with the Paranormal stuff but we had never had paranormal stuff before so why would we then? Unless we had encountered somethting evil that was now drawing more evil to us? Well, that was my conclusion anyway.

Can you articulate what that answer is and see how it stands up to examination by other intelligent people here?
I don't believe that what they said was necesarily more intelligent, it's just that they actually listened and gave a very plausible explanation. My husband and I greatly differ on what we believe the "being of light" was- he believes something good/ I am afraid it was something bad. And the JW's explained that Satan comes as a being of light to trick and deceive, which makes sense to me. My husband is sort of New Age-y and I just instinctively believe that New Age type things are just gimmicks by Satan to deceive us into thinking that we live many lives, that we will never die and that we don't need God. My husband very strongly disagrees with me but that is what I feel and the JW's have given me literature that backs that up. And I suppose the biggest thing, is that when I have told someone what happened to us, I guess the biggest problem has been that there are those that believe it COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED, because it just doesn't seem like something that could happen realistically but of course, we know it did. And I appreciate the JW's have not made me feel crazy when I've tried to explain it, but have tried to help me figure it out.

Oops - I accidentally hit Enter before I was done! Anyway- That's what happened to us. It has plagued me for years. It sounds unbelieveable but it really did happen and it was horrifying. I've tried to get answers from Paranormal researchers, my uncle the pastor, and like I said, the JW's have been the only ones to seem to understand and have an answer that makes sense.

I appreciate the responses everyone- thank you.
Sizemik- What happened to us was; my family and I were out one night on some backroads in Wisconsin. My husband, me, our two children , and we saw some lights over a cornfield. They were zooming around and doing crazy things, sort of like lasers. So we drove down the cornfields to get a better look, we thought they were maybe UFO"s- Anyway, after pulling way down the road, with cornfields on either side, all of a sudden a single light came down the street and stopped behind our car. We thought it was a motorcycle as there was only one light. The only thing was, it made no noise whatsoever and you couldn't see the driver behind the light. It just sat there, a few feet behind our car. We kept saying, "Why won't this a**hole just go around us? Why is sitting there?" There was a farmhouse down the street so we thought he must live there and we couldn'[t understand why he wouldn't just go around us and go home. Finally, we turned around in the middle of the road and passed the light, just as we passed it, it disappeared right in front of our eyes. At the same time, the lights above us , that we thought might be UFO's were just gone. We were confused and drove home (rather fast -haha) Anyway, the next night, we went back to the road. I don't know why; I think we just thought it was exciting. We weren't scared. But as soon as we pulled onto the road, the light "stepped out" from the cornfields and stood in front of our car. We all began screaming and my husband turned the car around (dont' know how he did it- the road was very narrow) and the light began to chase us- When we got to the end of the road- it disappeared. It was horrifying and I have been very shaken up ever since.

Thanks everyone-
I'm just figuring this website out so forgive me if I don't understand how to respond to each response. I went to check my email and it would only let me answer one, as the other one, when trying to check it, said "an error had occured" and wouldn't let me in- will try and check it later though :)
Yeah, I think maybe some Baptists give credence to demons but the church I was in never mentioned it and I never believed in them or even thought it was wrong to play with a Ouija board as a teenager. Someone should have warned me! Anyway, after we had our encounter, (which was very scary- basically we had an encounter with a "being of light") I asked my Baptist uncle about this and he just shrugged his shoulders, which really bothered me because I expected him to have some answers, something! And he just shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. So that bothered me. And when the JW's came along, they actually had some answers for me! Which made me think they understood much better.
I can understand the girl not wanting to take the book inside (from 'Kahlua' above) because now, I wonder if that is possible? That they attach themselves to objects? I don't know but after what happened to my husband and I , I have been truly confused and conflicted. I had thought all of this was nonsense before and now I just don't know what to think!

Thanks so much for the responses! I was pretty sure that they were just "love bombing" me and I was liking it! They have been SO NICE! But then I think, "Would these same lovely women actually ignore me if I were to, say, celebrate Christmas?" It seems impossible that they would but I know that in the end, it would happen. :(
I really do like the literature though, and it seems to be good stuff. Like, if everyone lived that way, what a wonderful world it would be. I just can't believe the same people practicing these things could also be cold to disfellowshiped friends and family members. That sucks.
My husband is begging me to stop the bible study and even though, I want to learn my bible and do enjoy the study, I think I will end it. Don't want to get sucked in to any craziness. I think the only reason I listened to them in the first place is because my husband and I had a very "Supernatural" encounter a few years ago and I've been going crazy trying to figure the experience out, and the JW's are about the only religion who seems to give credence to demons, which is what I'm afraid we encountered. So I've been more apt to listen to them.
Thanks for the responses! :)
