talesin-I have a multi-cat household and live way out in the country where inhumane people dump off their unwanted pets, when my cats insist on going out, they sometimes end up beaten up by the dumped cats...too many puncture wounds. My vet told me to open up their wounds (pick off the scab-nasty, yes) to let it drain, then use hydrogen peroxide on the wound to clean it and ALSO to prevent it from healing too fast. It heals on the outside, but continues to fester and rot on the inside and you want healing from the inside first. Hence, the peroxide to slow the outside from healing first.
I hope your dear kitty gets better soon.

No More Missionaries

Walk On-I remember this KM article and at the time I laughed because it encourage retired people to move to foreign countries. The article then stated something to the affect that they couldn't count on the Society to help with fleshly things, but what would the Society help them with? Information about the country of their choice...as if they couldn't get that info from the internet. They want retired people to go, because their retirement money might stretch farther in some 3rd world country.

It seems in general that the human attention span is getting shorter. Look at virtually any printed periodical and all the articles are short, skimming only the surface of the subject, no depth of knowledge, no real research. I used to get a great magazine called 'Colonial Homes', it had wonderful article about architecture and furniture design, history of ancient families who had the priveledge of living in that ancestral home, passed down for centuries. Anyway, it was discontinued. The publisher offered to send me another magazine, either Country Living or Country Home, if forget which it was now. Both have really short articles with almost no background history. I've noticed this with many other magazines.

by PaintedToeNail indoes anyone remember the check list for qualities one should look for in a prospective marriage mate?
it was several years ago or more since it was pprinted and maybe in ypa.

Where does physical attraction come in? The thought of being naked with someone you didn't find attractive, but they were good in FS is scary.
Where does a good work ethic come in? Having employed many witnesses over the years, we know that work ethic is in short supply.
Are we going to live in a hovel? Beating off rats, having filthy rented digs because that all we can afford do to our lack of education and work ethic.
Are we going to live with the in-laws? So we can pioneer of course-heard this as an example to be followed at an assembly within the last 2 years.
What about the sex? Is it missionary position all the way? Or can it be so much more.
Will the partner try to maintain some sense of personal pride in their appearance or will they stop caring once married (applies to both sexes), and focus exclusively on their inner person?
These types of questions came to mind when I read that checklist. The elder qualifications topic and the clothing checklist brought this spouse checklist t mind.

I've seen many more 'No Trespassing' signs here in Pennsylvania in the last few years, from rural driveways to in town homes. Now, these people just get a letter in the mail (most of the time).

A Woman, A Woman - Oh What Can She Be?
by LoneWolf inhi, peeplezs,.
down over the years i have experienced plenty of discouragement and cynicism about faith and the existence of a god who cares for us.
if i allowed myself to dwell on those things alone, i suppose that i too would be feeling hopeless and cynical and would be just waiting until my time is up.. however, i don't feel that way at all.

Secret Elders Meetings & Armaggedon Checklists from FDS ...
by Hairyhegoat inthe faithful slave has put out a list of things they think jw's should have on hand, due to the closeness of armaggedon.

I agree with Blondie, we were asked to prepare for local emergencies and inform the elders where you would go in the event of an emergency, plus how you could be reached so they could verify your safety. We have an emergency kit, we live in an area that was hammered three weeks ago by flooding, many homes totally destroyed and many people displaced. So it really was a good idea.

We went with a bus tour arrange by someone in the cong. The elders in the group actually tried to make everyone sing 'Kingdom' songs, I refused and told my spouse that it was ridiculous-we were already doing something 'spiritual'. The factory in NYC was extremely hot. Our tour guide had the personality of a limp dishrag and spoke so softly no one could hear him. We stood rooted to one spot for at least 10 minutes after he got done talking about it because other tour groups were just breezing by whatever it was and not making it a highlight of the tour. Finally, someone else in our group jumped out into the crowd, and the rest of our group followed, with the guide chasing after us.
Went to the farm several times, very pretty country, rural New York state. Nearby, in the New Paltz, NY area is a wonderful old, Victorian resort called Mohonk Mountain House. They oversee hundreds (maybe thousands-can't remember) of acres of woods and lake(s). There are paths all over and gazebos overlooking the most fantastic scenes in the most unexpected places-perched on a cliff, in a wood glen, hidden little gems. We saw a bear run across a path. There is a glacial lake that is quite pretty and cold. It made the trip to the farm worthwhile.

Tim, thank you for you kind answer, it was very coherent and I can now understand you better.
Quendi-I'm really glad you had a mentor to talk to, that must have been very comforting and reassuring for you.
irondork-there was no disrespect meant when I asked Tim that question, I was truly trying to understand where he was coming from. I'm sorry I offended you or anyone else. My apologies to all who's feelings I may have hurt.
