I am exhausted emotionally.
by PaintedToeNail ini have been reading ashley judd's 'all things bitter and sweet' autobiography, and it has exhausted me.
she paints a picture of neglect and abuse from early childhood on.
as i sat reading, i realised i was identifying with so much of what she wrote.. why, when having an emotional breakdown as a teenager, major obsessive compulsive disorder, obvious depression symptoms, would you refuse to get medical help for your child?

Thanks Tammy-You are right, it does place the parents' aledged 'lifesaving' work above the lives of their own kids...no wonder so many kids leave the borg looking for something far better.
By the way, the Ashley Judd book talks alot about her humanitarian work world wide. I've been wanting to get involved with something, to give back to the community, but have been held back by my JW indoctrination, i.e., what's the point, only Jah will be able to help people in a lasting way. This book has made me realize that anything I do to help the live(s) of others less fortunate will be worth while. Our local library is asking people to come help teach other adults how to read, this is something I can do to give back to my community.

mother rejects her son
by Aussie Oz inhad a phone call from my son today.... he rang his jw mother to give her some news and found out the school his little half siblings go to was having an end of year play.
he was pretty excited apparently and asked if he could come along and this is how it went.... "no, it is for family.
for our family not for children who never speak or visit us.".

IMHO the son should go to the school play, and make sure his siblings realise he is there, so that his mother cannot tell them he didn't care about them. She is probably already saying this to them, but if he were there, it would make her out to be a liar. He could also tell them how much he loves, cares and thinks about them regularly.
Plus, it would piss off his mom that he isn't playing by her rules.

LITS-I truly relate to you, it seems that we both went to the same school of being ignored and of being of no consequence. I've known many an elder who systematically ignored their own kids in favor of everyone else in the 'flock'. I always said I'd never, ever be married to an elder, they never seem to have happy families. Are you still with your husband? Why is it everyone else was more important, right down to the bathroom break? Like you, it took me several years to recover from hepatitis A. I'd come home from school or work and just crash with exhaustion.
Sending you my love,

Oh yeah, one other really funny and gross one: At a CA, we chose a seat, then changed our minds to sit with some other friends several rows behind where we had originally picked. A sister sits down with her kid, who is about 7 or 8 years old. About 30 minutes into the session, the kid jumps up and vomits ALL OVER the people in front of him! They were covered in barf. The one who got the worst of it was a young guy about 16, 17 years old, all over his hair, suit, everything. Poor guy, at that age all you want to be is cool, and being barfed on certainly cuts the cool!
Everyone around them flew out of their seats, afraid they would get barfed on too, as the little kid kept heaving. The young guy and his dad crawled to the bathroom to try to get some of the vomit off. A brother who was using the bathroom at the time said the young guy said to everyone in the bathroom, 'This is the grossest thing that ever happened to me!!!!'
Thankfully, they had stayed overnight for the CA and had clean clothes and a hotel room to clean up in!
We had vacated those chairs to sit with our friends...I have never been so happy that we seat swapped!

At a DC I attended as a little kid, Dodger Stadium, the brother was giving a long winded prayer (not unusual at DC's). I had my eyes open and watched a man run across the field and up to the stage. He was surrounded by stage guard attendants, one of whom had a huge pot belly. The pot belly attendant started nudging the offender down the carpet with his stomach. He never laid a hand on that guy, yet managed to escort the protesting man away from the stage. It was the highlight of the DC.

Was There Ever A Circuit Overseer That You Couldn't Stand?
by minimus ini know this has been discussed before but i think a fresh thread on this will be enjoyable.

Bro. Mulrath (Muelrath? Meulrath?) He was extremely pompous. He made our congregation go into huge debt to remove 2 pillars on the stage holding the roof up. The KH was one of the very first built exclusively as a KH, it even had a hideous 'watch tower' built onto the front. After about 40 years of existance, with pillars on the stage, they suddenly became taboo. Because of those pillars being on the stage, our KH couldn't host 'pioneer school'. Ironically, the next KH south of ours, about 10 miles, had just been built extra large to accomodate having pioneer schools for our circuit!
We had to have engineers come in to figure out how the pillars could be safely removed. An engineered beam had to be threaded through the attic. It was a huge mess, and a huge expense for absolutely nothing.
He was militant too: While giving a talk at the circuit assembly he said, "Some brothers are getting divorced because they have fallen out of love with their spouse. Fall back." How idiotic. Being in love with someone is an emotional response. One cannot demand someone love because they said so. There are a lot of people who don't love their spouse, but make the best of the situation for their own personal reasons, reasons that are important enough to make them stay. But there are those who feel their current situation is so unbearable, that they are willing to risk their own financial, emotional, and physical futures to get 'the hell out of Dodge'.

Unlocking Phobia's in JW's - Steve Hassan's " Freedom of Mind " book
by flipper inmy wife and i finally finished steve hassan's latest book called " freedom of mind " so i wanted to devote one more thread to it in discussing how to recognize phobia's in witnesses or cult members and some methods hassan mentions to assist cult members.. on pg.
146 hassan states, " a cult phobia is a man-made mental illness that is an integral part of destructive influence.
a phobia is a persistent, irrational fear.

flipper-Thanks for sharing this. I had one of Hassan's books, but hubby found it and it mysteriously disappeared. Anyhoo...The phobic angle makes a lot of sense. My brother and I were discussing this last night, he faded 9 years ago, yet when a guy at work mentioned eating blood sausage, my brother was immediately repelled, I would be repelled too, but much of the world at large utilizes blood in food.
To escape being polluted by the world, I wouldn't listen to singers who were openly gay, or lead really immoral lives and had these lives plastered all over the entertainment media.
To this day, I cannot watch doomsday or armeggedon type movies, it induces panic attacks and horrible feelings of dread!

Jehovah's witness meetings are NOT BORING......
by punkofnice in...i was told but they usually were as i look back.. as a lad i'd sit and look to see who the lights would fall on.
i'd get an almond and see how long i could suck it before i chewed at it.
i'd imagine playing rock'n'roll on the congregation's piano.. how did you get through the meetings when you were bored?.

Never been able to get much sleep at conventions and assemblies, the danged clapping kept waking me up!
