The List, by "Prominent Bethelite"
by morloc ini occasionally pop through here to catch up on the latest, but this time i'm going to pop my own post on here.. some of you internet oldsters may even remember this.
my first experience on the internet regarding discussions about jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower took place on a now-obscure usenet group, before i eventually stumbled across hourglass2.. during those days, there was a poster who went by the name "prominent bethelite," an otherwise anonymous individual whom i remember most for an extensive, exhaustive compilation of date-oriented remarks, predictions, and expectations by the watchtower organization down through the decades of its history.. it became known as "the list" and it's definitely lengthy... but a fascination look at the abundance of errant statements made through the watchtower's history.. if you're curious, it's been available for a long time on hourglass2's site, and can be seen using the link provided below.. the list, compiled by prominent bethelite (1999).
that's about it for this stop through here.

Convicted paedophile allowed to grill his victims at Jehovah's Witness meeting
by Sapphy inhttp://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/convicted-paedophile-jonathan-rose-grilled-7151197.
oh my goodness, i'm so angry i can't even speak!
"women who complained that former jehovahs witness elder jonathan rose, 40, had molested them as children relived their nightmares in front of him after he was released from jail".

Perhaps the reason the women went back to testify to the elders was because they learned this Rose guy wasn't disfellowshipped and he should have been. To protect the other children in that KH from becoming victims due to the 'don't ask don't tell' policy the WTBTS seems to require. If that was the womens lesson, I applaud their courage and self lessness.

My Successful Fade
by Darth Rutherford init's been a while since i've posted anything about myself.
i've been on jwn for a couple of years.
my leaving the organization was not because i lost my faith, but i left because of my faith.

Darth-Your account is moving, honest and I can relate to much of it, not the parts about being a elder, of course. But, the hoping that you would die so you wouldn't be stuck with your wife, the feelings of guilt for taking comfort where you could find it, the quest for answers to things that made no sense.
I divorced the 'brother' that caused me to wish for death rather than life eternal with someone so awful. Learned that feeling guilty for happiness is ridiculous and faced the questions I've had for years, squarely and realized the standard WTBTS answers don't add up.
Thank you for you eloquent story.

You cannot BE a member of the YMCA, but can USE their facilities as a JW. We always had our baptisms at the Y when I was living in the midwest. Apparently, it is okay to give the Y money to use the gym or pool, but to have a membership is supporting their cause, which has Christian overtones. It is definitely a crazy reasoning, but there it is.

5 years inactive and still sometimes I'm haunted.
by ctrwtf ini've lately been thinking about the pernicious nature of the belief by the jw's that they are the one and only true religion.
how this belief allows for an egotistical world view and allows them to shun and denegrate those that do not share their opinions.. please pardon my round about thinking process as i've been mulling this rant for some time.
while my father's side of the family has been entrenched with the jw's for two generations before him, my mother was a new convert.

So often JWs, including our families, are taught that they will gain 'brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers' in the faith. JWs are encouraged to push away anyone not in the faith. Recently, I have had Facebook conversations with my aunt, who I haven't seen in decades. She did mention that my parents were always witnessing and it did get tedious. I reconnected with my cousins on FB too, as we live over a thousand miles away.
If you contacted your mom's family, they would probably realize that you didn't shun them, your father did, and by default your mother. They were probably missing your mom and her kids too. No Christmas's spent together, no birthdays to commemorate the kids getting bigger. 'Wouldn't it be nice if ___were here?' It isn't too late to TRY to connect with them. Until we are dead, it isn't too late.
