Fascinating! He was either extremely brave or a complete fool for this endeavor. Had he been caught, he could have disappeared into an internment camp, never to be seen again. However, what he was able to smuggle out is of great interest to the rest of the world. His pictures are great! I cannot imagine being indoctrinated from before getting up in the morning until going to bed at night.

Discovery of a Commoner's Burial ground at Ancient Amarna
by fulltimestudent ina burial ground for the builders who worked on the construction of ancient armana, also known as akhetaten, the new city founded by akhenaten ( who may have been the world's first historically demonstrated monotheist) has been found.
its significant (imo) because it just may add to our knowledge of akhenaten, who deserves more recognition for his attempt to change the religious culture of ancient egypt, and even in failure, may still have provided the spark that led to modern christianity.. .
this report is from the july 17, 2014 issue of popular archeology:.

Egyptian history is fascinating. I too have wondered if the monotheism of Egypt had echo with the god of the bible and the Jews. Thanks for posting this info.

Malaysian flight crash in Ukraine VS Flight 93 in Pennsylvania
by EndofMysteries ini wonder if anybody else has wondered about the differences between those 2 flights?
in the malaysian flight that crashed from 30,000 feet high, tons of wreckage, body parts, bodies, documents, etc, all over the place.
yet in the pa flight 93, just a crater in the ground, no bodies, everything supposedly vaporized.

End-I was living in PA (still do) when flight 93 came down. I was listening to a blow by blow accounting of what was going on. The radio announcer said "Flight 93 has just been SHOT down by fighter jets!" I only heard that one time. It made a lot of sense to shoot the dang thing down than let it hit another target, collateral damage, true, but understandable given the circumstances. Never heard another announcement of that.
Four years later, I meet someone who worked at the Lehigh Valley Airport for a major airline. They were under lockdown and they were all listening to air traffic control and heard the military air traffic and heard the pilots say they had the target in range and they were given the go ahead to shoot it down. They next heard the pilots announce the plane has been shot down. The person who worked for the airlines told me they were all stunned at what they heard. He was the only credible person I've ever talked to who heard the same thing I did at the same time...
A missile or two fired from close range, by very skilled warriors/pilots in the sky would've pulverized flight 93.
Note: I don't care about conspiracy theories regarding flight 93, I only know what I PERSONALLY heard at the time it was happening.

notional money of Jehovah's Witnesses
by runForever ini use the word money here as credit.
you are given alot of credits as a jw that are supposed to be worth something.
are your credits really worth anything?

So right! My credits included: being known for hospitality-could be counted on to feed the speaker at a moments notice plus the intinerant regular pioneers who would pop in at supper time every week, knowing they would be given a hot meal, helping elderly ones with housekeeping, meals, rides to the hall, providing food to pioneer and elder schools, meals to families because the mother just had a baby (this wasn't supplied for me, however, definitely a one way provision), sacrificing spouse every other weekend because of RBC work, hall cleaning, infirm to doctor visits, loaning money to 'needy' ones...hosting overnight Bethelites and RBC personnel...the list goes on.
Never being one who liked the field ministry I was a low hour publisher and not having a high-ranking elder in the family, I was routinely forgotten until someone needed something. Pity I can't get that back. Makes me feel used.

These 'farce-i-cles' are great! They really make you realize how blind we all were to believe this crap and feel good doing it, believing we were giving a good witness. Sick.

Hello and Thank You!
by Vintagewife ini've been lurking here for about 3 months and decided it was time to register and become active.
i left the organization 17 years ago.
like so many of you, i had endured less than christian behavior from the strong cliches that ran our congregation.

Welcome and thanks for sharing your interesting story. So many weirdos in the congregations...it 'Truth' seems to bring out the worst in so many men, men who have ego problems.

So Happy to Learn About Homemade Weed Killer
by Iown Mylife inthree days ago we mixed up the recipe and sprayed the driveway cracks and several places where the weeds have been hard to get rid of.. today the weeds are dead just like when we've sprayed commercial weed killer.. mix one gallon white vinegar, 1 cup salt, 5 to 6 tablespoons of dawn dishwashing liquid.
note: don't spray if it's fixin' to rain, wait for dry weather so the stuff will stay on the weeds.
and don't spray where you want anything to grow ever!.

We've always just used white vinegar, it works pretty well. Will try adding the salt and Dawn and see if it works better.
Thanks for the tip.

VERY short day at the Arlington/Dallas International Convention-My Observations
by CaptainSchmideo inokay, some good takeaway:.
i have never been to a convention quite like this before.
a very friendly vibe all around, lots of banners and posters with sayings like "sending love to all our brothers", "see you in the paradise", "ecuador sends greetings", and "jehovahs-witness.net" (okay, i lied on that last one...).

Hard to believe anyone was bold enough to give a doo-dad with a state flag on it! Can't you just see it, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the southwestern state of Texas" just as the convention starts.
Sounds like a lot of people were expressing their individuality.
