I like that you remained calm. It was also interesting that your questions were often deflected.

Thoughts during the meeting today
by stephanie61092 inwhile i'm politely sitting during the meeting today, restraining myself from rolling my eyes as the brother drones on about how "having an independent spirit is devilish in nature" and "independence from gods organization only results in pain and strife", i only have one thought going through my mind over and over.
"what would happen if i pulled out a gun and blew my brains out in this kingdom hall?".
would anyone notice or care?

I don't know if they would stop the meeting should you pull a gun and blow your brains out. They didn't stop the meeting at our hall when a motorcyclist was hurled up into the yard after a crash. He was unconscious and the EMTs had to call for a helicopter to transport him to the hospital.
They didn't stop the meeting when an old man had a seizure and tipped over in his chair.
They didn't stop the meeting when an old sister collapsed in agony. They only asked the ambulance people to take her into the foyer so as not to disrupt the meeting.

Has anybody watched Making A Murderer on Netflix ?
by smiddy ini watched this 10 part series the other day and i was appalled at the investigation conducted by the police , especially the way they conducted their investigation with brendan vassey , his interrogation and obvious manipulation by the police officers , i couldn`t believe he was convicted , and sentenced to a jail term.. to any intelligent person with any sense of compassion could see brendan vassey was intellectually disadvantaged , yet these police officers exploited that failing of this boy .he should never have been convicted , his case should have been thrown out of court , the fact that he has been in jail over 10 years is a gross miscarriage of justice .. the conviction of steven avery seemed to me to be a set up also from what was presented on netflix ,.
i am no fan of steven avery ,i think he is a bit of a hillbilly type , that has had no problem with cruelty to animals , which i abhor ,yet i do think he has been railroaded in this conviction ,while the real killer and rapist goes free .. what are your thoughts .
smiddy.

Why don't you watch or read some of the rebuttal from the prosecutors and police? This story was very one sided. Believe it or not, it is difficult to get a conviction in a murder case. Murder clearance rates are only at 64% and that includes numbers where people are known murders but not charged for some reason. -

What Should the Minimum Wage Be (USA)?
by Village Idiot induring the gop debates donald trump said that american’s “wages [are] too high” and later said “that having a low minimum wage is not a bad thing for this country” (7:25)..
do you agree and if so why?.
my two cents on this issue; do the math.

People are only FINANCIALLY worth the amount they produce, plus a profit, to whomever they are working for. If you raise the minimum wage across the board, the cost of goods and services will go up. It doesn't take a lot of skill or intelligence to flip hamburgers over and over. It does take some skill to be a plumber. It takes even more skill to be a surgeon. The pay is commensurate to the skill level and need for said skill at any given time.

Booze Boy, The Early Years
by olongapo joe insomeone commented on an old post, "jw's attract a lot of misfits and alcoholics" yep, fits my family to a t. booze was at every family reunion, party, picnic, you name it, if my family was gonna be there, there was gonna be lots of booze.
my pops was cheap (he dropped out of school in the 9th grade, so only worked low paying jobs) so to save money on beer, he and my uncle decide to make some homebrew (this is in the early 70's, before all the beer brewing kits you can get now).
they got a recipe from some old codger, dug up an old 30 gallon crock from god only knows where, and commences to buying cans of malt, bags of sugar, cases of empty bottles, a hand operated capping machine the whole nine yards, oh, it was a big operation, yep, were gonna save a bundle on beer!.

sir82-I've had the Welch's Grape Juice wine many times, it is really quite good if you like sweet wine. Sometimes it would get fizzy like champaigne and be really good. -

Finally posting and I'm FRUSTRATED!!!
by stephanie61092 inokay, i'm about to engage in a major word vomit.
just giving you fair warning as your time may be better spent somewhere else.. so, i'm sitting on my lunch break, bawling my eyes out, and writing on this forum to people i don't know yet probably have a great deal in common with but at the same time, used to scare the daylights out of me.
for years, i would come across this forum and 'lurk' awhile if you will, or see things on youtube.

Darling Stephanie-Have you thought of just getting reinstated just to get your family back and then doing a quick fade? I knew a young 'brother', maybe 20, who came to meetings looking super prepared and repentant. He did the man pleasing thing. Got reinstated and never went to another meeting. Everyone at the Hall and all his family speaks with him when he is seen. He later told a friend that his whole intent was to get reinstated and NEVER go to another meeting. He succeeded. That might be a viable option for you to get your family back in your life.

"If I wasn't born a JW, I would never have become one."
by OneEyedJoe ini've seen it mentioned by a few on the forum that at some point there was a realization that had they not been born a jw, they never would've converted no matter how many times the jws tried to study with them.
this was my experience too, and i'm wondering how universal it is for those that were born-in but eventually left.
i think i started having this thought (more specifically that if i were not born a jw, i would surely have become an atheist by now) in my late teens.

I have said that to people I've known, "If it wasn't for my parents being JW's, I never would've become one." In my case I planned on never getting baptized. It never appealed to me. Yet, in an effort to escape my family life, I decided to get married. My dad wouldn't come to the wedding unless it was at the KH. It couldn't be at the KH if I wasn't baptized. So, feeling blackmailed, I got baptized. Crazy thing is, I wanted to call off the wedding because I didn't really love him, but my mom made me feel so guilty about making my ex feel bad that I went through with it.
My mom is still trying to make me feeling guilty about not going to meetings. She keeps telling me, "You KNOW its the truth." And in my mind I say, "No, I don't and never did know or feel it was the truth." It wouldn't do any good to argue with her, as SHE feels she knows everything.
