Need some help: Existential crisis in full swing

so is anyone else having an existential crisis after becoming fully awake?

let me explain.

about 2 years ago i read coc, still believed and tried to get back in da troof.

Freeandclear-I get where you are coming from, as I had the same feelings of 'everything is worthless, why are we here', going through my head for quite awhile after waking up. Yet, when you really think about it, according to the WTBTS, the ONLY purpose in life for the 6 or 7 billion people on this planet was to worship god. Why? That purpose is very, very limiting and discounts everything else anyone who ever lived did.

You can only affect people in the now. They can feel your love in the present...or your neglect. As an active JW, you were never supposed to live in the now, instead giving up your present for some imaginary future.

Maybe if you try giving more of yourself to others you can feel the satisfaction of now.

i was just going through some of my talk outlines and i've decided to git rid of quite a few of them.

i'm still serving, but as time goes on... there are many subjects i will not teach anymore.. i got rid of the outlines dealing with blood, the field ministry, and ones talking about 607 and 1914. i can barely stand hearing them let alone give them.

in fact, talk 41 "stand still and see the salvation of jehovah" is one i got rid of because its whole point was about having blind obedience toward the gb and the elders during the great tribulation, and that we need to start practicing obedience now if we want to survive.

It was the speakers who gave them, rather than the talks they gave. When I was a kid I called one elder 'Brother Sominex'-which was a sleep aid at the time. Some brothers were really good speakers and they could've spoken about how to make soap and made it interesting.

Crazy-So scared he will lose his family and friends he has to have his voice altered, face concealed, and name changed to appear on this news clip-almost as if he were a mob informant. Hopefully this news clip will alert the Detroit area viewing public what really goes on in the religion and to stay away.

I saw the headline about this in the news, but dismissed it because I don't care about sports. But finding out he is a practicing JW and NBA player is interesting-add to that a wife beater and it's down right fascinating! The rules are loosened for some! Prince, the Williams sisters, this Collison guy, Coco Rocha-is you are REALLY good at a sport, singing or modeling, its okay, but if you are just a young kid in school, sports, music or modeling is a no-no

my maternal grandfather, adolph joseph deman, was in his mother's womb as the family crossed the ocean from east flander, belgium.

he was the first to be born in the u.s. in 1885. his father's death in 1888 contributed to his departure from school and work as a lad in the iron mines of republic, michigan.

the house he later built on a homestead in maple valley, washington, near kent, was a substantial pillar in my unstable early life as a precocious jw child in a dysfunctional home.

Critical Thinking-is that phrase a stigma?

when i first heard the term 'critical thinking' it was as a teenager during a watchtower study.

the study went on to elaborate how we shouldn't be swayed by critical thinking.

there was no explanation that the term didn't mean 'to criticize' thoughts and words, but rather that it means 'to objective think and to evaluate thoughts and words'.

talesin-I was refering the first sentence of the third paragraph where you refer to labeling of people. Didn't mean to offend you. Yes I did read your post, which was why I commented. I will remember not to respond to your posts as we seem to not be understanding each other too well.

flipper-Definitely so many word meanings changed in the Borg's quest for the 'Pure Language' (barf worthy. really). Worldly and Generation are both very good examples of their changing the proper definitions of words! Instead of using 'Worldly' when talking with JWs possibly use 'sophisticated' or 'polished'. Can't think of another word for 'generation' at the moment.

talesin-I wasn't saying that JWs can't or don't use critical thinking, but when we use that phrase when speaking to them, it automatically sends alarms to their brains not to listen to us. If we were to use the phrasing "Analytically thinking about the Flood account..." instead of "Critically thinking about the Flood account" would be less off-putting to JWs.

stuckinarut2-I like your wording better than mine, I was grasping for a word to substitute for 'critical' and couldn't find one, but your word is really fitting. It would be less alienating to say to a JW, "When analytical thinking is used...." instead of, "When critical thinking is used..." The JW would be less likely to automatically put up their defenses.

Half banana-Right! Just think of the word 'Pioneer'. In the USA, a pioneer would be perhaps someone moving west in a covered wagon or the first in a specific field like Marie Curie and X-rays. Not someone who is a supposed full time preacher.
