Update-not to worry, he just picked the book up again and started reading it.

i gave him are really good thriller book to read today.
he got half way through it, was really into it, when i couldn't help myself.
i asked him, in light of this past sunday's watchtower, how can you read this book in good conscience.

He closed it up and put it down.

today i saw a friend that is still a hardcore jw.
she knows we're not going to meetings, but seemed pretty cool with it and was willing to have lunch with me, so i thought why not?
she mentioned something about the convention coming up in a couple of weeks, and all of the sudden i got so nostalgic and felt like maybe i wanted to go.
Sitting through a 'special assembly day' recently was excrutiating. Maybe by going, you'll realize how horrid it all is, and reaffirm your current position.

i know i would have never, ever been interested if someone would have come to my door as a jw.
i guess i really don't feel like i've ever had a real spiritual side to me.
the 'truth' would have never interested me, nor would i have ever accepted a bible study with anyone who came looking for a sheeple.
LITS-the reasoning used by the CO is stupid, to say the least!
Found Sheep-Brief, to the point and effective! Thanks
Azazel-I was interested in the air force when I was in my late teens and early 20's.
jwfacts-I pondered this question too, for a long, long time.
Thanks to everyone else for your interesting anwers!

How many others with the 'truth' force on them as kids, would have become JWs if their parents hadn't basically forced them to?

wants us to enjoy life?
4. why do we need to set limits on the kind of recreation.
well to determine in advance whether some.
Thanks blondie! I always enjoy your analysis.
sabastious-I agree with you 100%, it is extremely difficult to make friends after being indoctrinated by the WTS!

before i decided to post my thread i went through this most of this site and tried to see everyone elses experiences and childhoods, unlike some ppl i never told my friends i was a jw because i just knew that would make me uncool to everyone and i wasnt brainwashed like the rest of the jw's i saw and really followed there life by the jw principles.
its sad how some parents have there kids so brainwashed by this stuff its so pathetic i feel sad for some of them, they probably have no friends in school.
growing up in a jw household i always thought alot of there rules are intense and dont allow humans to have any fun i mean come on i can't play pokemon?
Welcome Skratch darling! My I be so rude as to ask that you to use capitals at the beginning of sentences and for the pronoun 'I'? Also, paragraph breaks would be great! I had a really hard time reading your post without those little 'helpers'.
Thanks, and welcome again!

visiting a nearby town during his thursday night service talk mentioned how poor meeting attendance is in the english-speaking u.s. congregations.
he said that when the gb reduced the weekly meetings from 3 to 2, there was a brief surge in meeting attendance percentages.
after a few months it began to slide and it hasn't stopped sliding.
I love the parts they have that say, basically, 'if you are bored at a meeting, it is because YOU haven't prepared by studying in advance', as if anything aside from a few rotten tomatoes being thrown, could help some of the people giving their droning parts, become interesting.
Some of the public speaking brothers are so boring, they could be used by the CIA as torturers, just sitting through one of their talks is enough to make anyone willing to do or say anything to stop the torture.

indulge the possibility that, as profits from printed materials become thinner, watchtower might want to stop having members carry printed materials to the homes of many.
i know it will probably go through more phases of "cheapening" the materials (softcover books, pamplets instead of brochures, flyers instead of pamphlets) but let's consider the idea that they will one day cease delivering anything printed.. the door-to-door work is huge in controlling members and monitoring loyalty.
pioneers are their biggest supporters.
Guilt-motivatived unhappy victims.

myth: parents who are jehovahs witnesses.
force their children to follow their faith.. fact:witness parents strive to inculcate love.
for god in their offspring, just as the bible.
The WTBTS is encouraging younger and younger children to be baptized. 6 year olds are praised for dedicating the lives to WTBTS. There is no way any child can make that kind of decision and truly know what is expected of them. Yet, they can be disfellowshipped. How ridiculous.
Yes, I felt I was obligated by my parents, to get baptised.
