sowhatnow-I agree with you. I felt the same way. An example: when we were in a certain congregation a 'sister' had a kids party. She invited every child except mine. I was really hurt. My son was disliked by her because he was much better behaved than her son, who tended to bite and hit people. Others would comment on how nice my son was and she was jealous. I will never forget that bitch. Because I wasn't a pioneer, I wasn't invited to people's homes or to their events, yet whenever the elders needed someone to host the speaker who did they come to? Me as I was known for my hospitality...never was reciprocated though. Felt very, very lonely and left out.

Safe-The drinking thing just makes my son, who is 20, roll his eyes and make snide comes about his dad being an uber-JW and the hypocrisy he is showing. It used to really upset my son, when we were 'in', that his dad drank so much. Dad stays down in his man-cave in the basement and drinks, he tends to be much 'nicer' when he drinks, so the girls are just relieved to not have him yelling at them to really notice that he is less than sober...

I took my girls to Star Wars last night, their inebriated father came along. The girls absolutely loved it. All the way home they were asking questions about the Force and Leia and Han, Luke and so on. Their father remained eerily quiet. This morning he got up early, I stayed in bed.
When I woke up, the youngest, 8, came into the room and told me her dad said "Let's watch a video." Naturally she was excited, as her dad doesn't usually pay attention to her. She ended up being required to watch a Caleb movie. She said "It was one of those guilt ones. They wouldn't let the kid buy ice cream with his own money. That's just wrong." She is a very astute child. She questions everything and if it doesn't make sense, you better be able to explain it.
He has left for now and she and her sister are playing Star Wars in the backyard with their light sabers...Caleb lost.

American accents, Bette Midler, Clinton, Rick Fearon, Strathclyde, Morningside
by slimboyfat ini used to enjoy being able to distinguish different local accents, but for some reason i've got worse at it.
i was thinking about this today when i was listening to bette midler on the scottish radio.
i thought to myself i quite liked her accent and also that it reminded me of someone else.

Having grown up in Minnesota, there is a decided accent. It almost sounds as if someone moved from Norway to the USA as a child and never quite shed their speech pattern. It has been several decades since I moved from there, but can always pick up on that accent when I hear it.

America - Do They Teach Science in North Carolina?
by cofty ini don't know whether to laugh or weep.
us town rejects solar panels amid fears they 'suck up all the energy from the sun'...... jane mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.
ms mann said she had seen areas near solar panels where plants are brown and dead because they did not get enough sunlight.

Here's an article about how certain solar collection areas actually do kill wildlife. Also, in the origianal story, the people quoted were not officials, but the some of the local populace expressing their concerns. One woman's home was surround by solar collectors and her property value plummeted. A valid concern for other property owners.
Here is another article on how Solar plants MAY affect the habitat in a harmful manner.

What's More Important...Taking care of immigrants or the needy in your country?
by minimus ini say take care of the needy ones first like our veterans and homeless and mentally ill, and then....take care of those not from this country.

While I hate illegal immigration and the havoc it wreaks, I do understand the reasons behind it and why these people leave their homes and families, risking everything for a better life and have always tried to see them as individuals, and give them the respect as humans.
The Syrian refugee problem is much worse and very different. The ongoing tragedy of being targeted for death by people of your own religion for not being religious enough for them, the bombings, food shortages, lack of sanitation would cause anyone of us on this website to do everything in our power to improve the condition of our families and ourselves.
However, the fact remains that some of these people hate Americans just for being born American. That sentiment is echoed by different nationals on this site regularly, unfortunately. Are Americans justified in feeling some fear from these refugees? Of course. However, Americans kill each other at far greater rates than terrorists do and we should keep in mind that we are much more likely to be killed by someone we know rather than a random terrorist. It is just that terrorists target things like the Boston Marathon and the Twin Towers and kill and maim in huge numbers.
The American GOVERNMENT has played a large part in the mess in the middle east. The American GOVERNMENT owes it to these displaced people to assist the them. American INDIVIDUALS need to try to remain calm. We can still be vigilant and act when needed to prevent terrorism in all its forms in our home country, such as the domestic terrorists who kill innocent school kids to the Pasadena Islamic terrorists.

@Petraglyph, I doubt that it was a 'fake mistake', this person posts scriptures and happy JW pictures on their timeline.

Yes, it was posted before in November. I used the video to show my new sister-in-law just how bizarre the reasoning of JW's actually is. She was astounded. She had heard my brother and I talk about things, but was somewhat skeptical-which is a good thing. My mother is constantly trying to convert her. When she was the video, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. She also got angry-also a good thing.
After listening, we talked about it. I couldn't believe that 'sisters' listening to that clap-trap didn't get up en mass and walk out!
