Just saw an elderly JW man...
by zengalileo inhe was walking with such a slump, dragging his feet, carrying a jacket, magazines barely visible just hanging from his fingertips.
if body language has any validity to it, this man was deeply discouraged and depressed.
i remember that slump too.

Luke 21:8 - Who Should We Really Avoid?
by Darth Rutherford inluke 21:8 - who should we really avoid?.
in his sign of the last days, jesus warned his followers: look out that you are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, i am he, and, the due time has approached.
(luke 21:8) jesus provides clues that help us identify who to avoid.

that is exactly how i felt regarding them telling us to read our bible. anyone that comes to a comprehensive understanding of the bible, is going to leave this org, every time. i actually had an old man elder tell me this, he couldn't even see the hypocrisy in it. i was talking about deeper points in the bible and this disturbed him. he went on to tell me stories of other guys that got into deeper study, and they always leave. he apparently couldn't put two and two together on how ridiculous this was. but further goes to show, people are in this org for their own purposes. it fulfills their own needs in some way, has nothing to do with service. what a sad disappointment for sincere people trying to make a difference.

Question...?
by cptkirk indoes anyone come into this religion who is doing well in life?
not to say any one particular person never did well in life, but when they were studying and getting baptized, at that particular time in their life, were things going good for them?.
i'm trying to figure out if anyone comes into this religion, while life is going good for them.

yea that was a good post sv. the point about welcoming criticism. when you weigh cult against truth, what does it sound like the wts is? you see how hard they try to hide things. does a religion of truth do that? to me you don't even have to go any further in denouncing this religion as quackery. can you imagine walking into a courtroom , and every time a piece of evidence is submitted, the defense has steam coming out of their ears? running around like a cartoon character trying to cover people's eyes, and pushing their ears closed while making baby sounds with their mouth? or even going one step further and trying to contrive double talk arguments, which make no sense, then frantically trying to use peer pressure to shut down discussion? yea THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!! SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE TRUTH! heh.
seriously if you follow a religion like this, that's fine. but why dont you do yourself a biggggg favor, and stop calling yourself "the truth"? it's a dis-service to humanity. because if humanity ever actually did find the truth, we wouldn't even be able to identify it. seeing that we had been brainwashed to believe truth could be steeped in falsehood, so long as you repeated the truthiness enough, and refused debate.
yea there are some ok people in the jw cult. the thing i learned is, once there is a problem, you see even those people that seemed so nice and impartial...are just as guilty as the twisted ones. i can see how someone from inside the cult could be reading this, and think they're smart. saying to themselves something like, "he must of gotten caught doing something bad, and he doesn't like that even the mellow witnesses showed their displeasure to him. so now he(me), is acting out his anger regarding this". unfortunately this is also part of your brainwashing. i assure you, to make sure i was seeing what i was seeing correctly, i completely removed any personal feelings i may have had. i watched the mellow witnesses become just as guilty as the twisted ones. if you do more hours in service, or you are a ms and the othe person isn't...doesn't matter if your argument is the sky is blue, they will tell you it's orange. it's brainwashing 101. and all witnesses are on the brainwashed frequency, all of them. because if you're not, you're going to be out soon. and trust me, if you aren't on the brainwashed frequency, they know you aren't, and deep down, they really hate you. high control group, brainwashing. sad to tell you, that's all it is. there is no holy spirit doing this. i assure you, if there even is a "holy spirit", it would not need to use simple man made brainwashing techniques, to accomplish it's purpose.

I have a few comments to make on this thread.
I want to first point out something. if you goto the link provided with the full transcript, you will see some comments left at the bottom. one comment refers to how god curses his enemies, something to this effect. it should also be noted, god also uses "the world" at times to CURSE his people, and DESTROY them. (see israel plundered)
before i left this religion, i fought with these idiots. i pointed out many things that needed to be fixed. all that got me was persecution from within. and judgement. thought they weren't supposed to judge? well apparently i was judged by this cult, not by god. the great part is, they still can't figure out why they judged me. in a court of law under examination, what would they say? "he said mean naughty things" ? wtf...meanwhile they themselves were involved in real sick shit, that could be presented in a court of law, under the context by which they preach. and they would be found guilty.
is the world going to end soon? nope. might we all be dead soon? yup. will the united states of america crumble? maybe. will the world economy completely evaporate? maybe. will the world end? nope. how many purging(s) have occurred on the earth? did it ever end the world? nope.
before we all die, everyone should watch "the chinese connection" with bruce lee. it's a microcosm of the macrocosm. in the movie once the school comes under attack, bruce knows the school had committed no crime, and yet the assailants wanted them shut down. he knew 2+2 was not adding to 4. somehow nobody else could figure this out? did bruce just say fuck it, i'm just going to go down with the ship. no, he said i'm going to fight, if i have to fight alone, i will fight alone against 5 other schools (religious/martial art schools). finally about 3/4 through the movie, when it's to late, what do they all realize? "bruce was right", we should of been fighting since the beginning. the more desperate these people running the wts get, the more they try and assuage their guilt with acrimony like this talk, the closer the day draws near, when they like israel of long ago, will be finally destroyed.

there are a lot of reasons why someone in the medical field would be attracted to the jws. you're constantly exposed to the sick, blood and guts, etc. reminds me of mash. they had it all on top of being in a war zone. constant booze and women to relieve stress. i can definitely see people in that line of work being attracted to the jw message. "this isn't the real world, this is the fake world"...in the real world we will all be playing texas holdem with the dinosaurs.

money isn't happiness, did you know him personally? just look at a guy like robert downey jr. that guy is extremely wealthy, but even better than wealth, he's famous...fame, now he's got the monopoly on the iron man character....meanwhile he's got people hiding sharp objects from him inside his own house, and watching him 24/7 to make sure he doesn't jump out any windows.

size: i just believe they aren't idealists, they are realists who recognize certain aspects of society can be made better. idealist to me is someone that ignores math. you ever hear someone say 'oh all that psychology is just crap', that kind of person...and then they hold up some ideal, not realizing all psychology is, is the study of the mind. but they will blow that off and give you their take. that is an idealist to me, they don't care about math or science.
scenic: you dont really fit the criteria actually. because you weren't a fully grown adult. still in that mentality (back then) that you are a helpless entity, and whatever the adults say goes. when did you leave anyway?

idealists are almost always just naive weak people. realists will enact more beneficial change than any idealist ever will. idealists refuse to accept terms in the equation, therefore they remain lost forever. there was a time magazine cover that said something about 'is god dead?'...before i was born during vietnam era....they pulled out of nam, then the whole god thing started up again. wonder if there is a corrolary there. once this iraq/afgan thing ends, maybe the whole cycle will start again. then they can get their moral majority again, then goto war again, rinse repeat.
