cult classic: You can't ride on our coattails forever.
I'm guessing your parents didn't really wear coats with tails!
regarding worldly people, shows or toys?
etc...what quotes annoyed you the most?.
for me it was "well, you have to remember, they're worldly"... "don't trust anyone who isn't in the truth" "they may be nice but they are not friends of jehovah"... just a few to name.

the newbies are pooring in....... curious.......can any of you new folks confirm the sentiment of the publishers regarding the new light that the governing body is the faithful and discreet slave?
has anyone even noticed??
what's the word on the street?.
jwfacts: For several years I had a comment on the Slave, saying that it made more sense for it to just represent the GB. I wonder if they were inspired by an apostate rather than by holy spirit.
Well, that's certainly the way it's been for all intents and purposes for the last 50ish years, that is that the GB acts in the role of the FDS as portrayed in JW literature.
But it also most certainly has NOT been what they've taught throughout that same time period and it makes an even bigger mess out of their interpretation of Jesus parable than the previous understanding.
Furthermore, how can we have confidence that these guys know what they're talking about concerning other scriptures when they have been wrong about their own identity for the last 93 years?

Cedars, not to be disrespectful to your dad in particular--after all, his response is sadly typical of 99% of the R&F Witnesses--but that's really ridiculous!
I hate it when dyed-in-the-wool JWs say things like, "I would need to investigate it fully to see whether I can agree with it," as if they have a chance of entertaining an independent thought or disagreeing with the GB.
Equally absurd is the, "It makes total sense," comment. Seriously, this doctrine is absolute nonsense!
If your dad, or anyone, "fully investigated it" they'd see in a few short moments what an incomprehensible mess this teaching makes of Jesus' otherwise straight-forward parable.
It's sad to see how easily otherwise intelligent people can be manipulated.

hi there, as was suggested to me, i'm starting this thread to say hi to everyone.. my awakening began recently, after the new light on the 'slave'.
i felt it didn't add up and went to check and found out ttatt.
for a while i tried to find evidence of whether the wt might still be god's organization, i needn't say i couldn't.. i had already resigned as a ministerial servant and a pioneer, had already had several issues with the elders and did not put up with their nonsense for a long.
Welcome. I look forward to your contributions.
hi guys & girls.. though you can sit back down in your seats now, sorry but not a jw, never have been & never will be, am a totally happy with athiest life, lol.. started lurking here about a year ago, started dating a jw woman didn't i, i here the face palms, lol.
lucky for me i found this site while trying to find out more about the jw's very early on & knew exactly how this was prob going to end.
but i thought what the hell lets see where it goes.
Welcome, put in your 2 cents or more!

What's the point of "New Light" if no one notices.
just wondering what wt issue has actually put it down in print.
i know that some of my jw frineds already know about it, but they didn't tell me if it was an announcement at the hall or actually in the wt..
For any skeptics, here are screenshots of the "New Light" from the jw.org page:
JW.Org: Annual Neeting Report, November 9, 2012
Note the date and the url in the navigation bar. This is the real deal. Go to the jw.org website yourself and see that it is so.
Here's the change. It's on the same page as above a little further down.
This is a pretty significant "adjustment" in JW "theology."
It may not be in a WT yet, but this is "in print" in the 21st Century!
i was just googling jehovas and this appears in the list at wikipedia abou raymond franz.. *theinformationon this page was removed by responsible members of the legal coorporation of jehovah's witnesses, watchtower bible and tract society of new york, inc for the sole purpose that this page spread false information about a former member of jehovah's witnesses.the authors of the page are liable and did not remain neutral with regards to the information presented.we request you write a written apology to us..
wtf!?.
apperently that didint work out.. (cur | prev)17:32, 29 january 2013 titodutta(talk | contribs) m.
I bet it's just some anonymous JW pretending to be a White Knight for their precious corporate God.
It doesn't quite have the ring of anything that would ever come out of Brooklyn.
For starters, the phrase, " We apologize if there was any error in our judgement when editing ..., " is completely uncharacteristic of the WTBTS and its minions. Since when does the WTBTS ever apologize or admit to errors in judgement about anything? Never.
If they wrote it, it'd read, "We are sorry that you misunderstood our clearly stated intentions in editing ...."
I don't buy it, not for a second.
this is a distilled (and from memory) reconstruction of a chat this morning.... my 81 year old ex-baptist minister friend dub and i went to starbucks for coffee and conversation.
dub likes to start conversations with strangers.. today a seminary student caught his eye.
they talked for about half an hour before dub dropped me into it.
Terry, interesting exchange.
BTW, you have a PM.

i am a jw (still active).
i like discussing with others and i think this is a great place to do so.
hopefully this can be fun and a learning experience for all of us.
Welcome,
You're right, this is a great place to learn. You can question, comment, disagree, ask for help and even rant and no one will tell you that you can't. (Although we may disagree).
I think you'll find it a refreshing experience.
Tell us a little about yourself!
